How do you protect your collectable cues ?

For years I have kept my cues in a very large safe in my house. As my collection grew I started to become uneasy about the whole arrangement. About a month ago.
I found an upscale, 24 hour guarded storage center that is temperature controlled. I have rented a small storage unit and put in a table to keep the cues at least 30 iches off the floor in case of any flooding. I have moved about 95 % of my collection there.
I feel much better about having them in a better protected location. Having them in my house was just too nerve wracking.
Have you guys given this any thought, I am curious as to what some of you guys do with your higher end cues......

I just keep mine in the shed with old killer chained right in front !!!

I keep them in a safe that came with my house. I've considered using a secure storage facility as well since I already keep items for my business there.

Steve are the Cues stored in Tubes, Boxss, Cases or what? Is the Guard Armed, and paid well?

The only down side is that I cant go look at them every time I get the urge...which is usually daily. But knowing that they are much safer in a secure place with armed guards, lets me sleep easier...

Would this place you speak of, be... Fort Knox ???:grin: The only issue I would have with that is trusting the security and employees. Be sure and keep your insurance premiums up to date. :grin: You have a fabulous collection!

John, thats a great point. They are fully insured......and when I brought them there..I had the cues in cases and the cases in boxes. So nobody had a clue what I was bringing in.
My first thought was to put a safe in the storage area, but that would get way too much attention.

Have that and top notch security also. But just dont want them where I live. A safe is fine for when nobody is home. When you are home, it doesnt do you any good.

I keep my cues in a digital locked gun safe that is hidden in my home. I have no worries at this point becouse of the fact that unless the person sees me get them out they will have no clue as to where the safe is located. I wont even let my closest friends be in the house when I get them out. Call me paranoid but I just cant stand the idea of them being out of my home.

I insured them. It keeps me from worring.

Shit happens, if mine gets stolen, burned up or whatever, I will deal with it.

Is it worth it?

It is for me.

Many years ago, I purchased a humungous Jewelry Safe (7'x6'x4') which is TXTL-60 rated and has been (interior) upgraded to Data Storage Fire rating ...

This Safe weighs in excess of 8,000 pounds (empty) and holds my most valuable (non-replaceable) Cues, among other items of considerable value ...

My Bank has the capability of storing Cues, etc. for me ... However, I want unlimited access to all of my "goodies" when the mood strikes ...

As a final precaution, EVERYTHING is fully insured against any type of loss ...
 
diversification

All professionals say to never put all your eggs in one basket. Whether its guns or cues or jewelry etc. Fire and theft hit people hardest when they locate all the valubles in one place. Having 3 smaller fireproof safes in 3 different closets will give 10 times the protection of one giant safe. The only way a fire or theft is going to get you with three safes means..the fire department is 2 hours away...a close friend that knows you robs you. No thief is going to find/ disable/ 3 good safes in one robbery. They wont risk it.
Add extra layers of drywall to the inside of your closets to add fire protection.

i keep mine in gun safes, and the guns out of the safe, they are scattered around my house, its amazing how many guns have been stolen from me, probsbly 10 in the past 10 years(construction workers). I reported most of them stolen, some i didnt realize for a long time.

I dont worry much about losing things, for some reason. I keep my watches at the bank safe deposit, I dont have anything of value in my home but my cues,

I have guards here 24/7. my guards are great and we have nice gun laws in Vegas we can pop someone and fill out the forms and its over-I had a employee come to work 3 hrs late onetime, she said "I had enough and finally shot the .....er!!!!" She was a bit edgy, I didnt believe her, but to err on the side of aution I let it go-next day it was in the paper, this was back in 97. Then we wanted to fire he but we were all scared too. She quite a week later. WOW
 
Locked up in my gun safe and listed on my home insurance.

Make sure that the storage facility has cameras around the place.

question about gun safes....if they are left in a hot humid garage in florida, are the cues ok? Sounds dumb but the gun safe saleman told me it was airtight and if I ran a dehumidifier in the garage it would be ok bc he said the temp would be less than outside. Sounded like bs to me but I was wondering what experience people here have had.

The gun safe I bought and dont use anymore.....Is in the basement, with a dehumidifier always on. I asked the guy I bought the safe from, if it was completely airtight. He said no. I guess they are all different.
Would be nice to hear something from someone who knows safes real well. In Florida, in a garage would scare me..
