Hi,

Other than nelsonite or resolute, what other product do you use for seal your new shafts? I have been using a waterborne sanding sealer between cuts and after the final cut before sanding, burnishing and waxing.

I am interested to know if anybody has other product that they have tested over time and are happy with.

Thanks,

Rick Geschrey

Nothing...........I seal my shafts after I'm all done cutting on them and again after I'm all done sanding on them.

I use a lacquer based sanding sealer but only after the final cuts and sanding.

Take care

Wood sealer

I use Zinsser Seal Coat thinned 3-to-1 with Denatured Alcohol. I use it to seal all my wood (not just shaft wood) after I do any cutting. My shop is not climate controlled, so the humidity varies with the seasons. IMHO, sealing my wood in this way slows the transfer of moisture when the relative humidity goes up and down.

ancient chinese secret.

seriously though i don't use a sealer but i do apply something after they are basically final sanded and then sand it off.

wish i could say what it is,i was told about from one of the masters and was told not to repeat it.it really works well and is kind of unique.

Cut to final size.
One square of 220.
One square of 400.
600
ULTRA-THIN SUPERGLUE

After all cuts are made
220
320
400
600
sealer
600
butchers bowlers wax
clean cloth buff

i also use buffing materials on ferrules to make them shine

A friend gave me a bottle of Joe B's SST shaft sealer. Low viscosity water based polyurethane. A couple of coats and sand the top coat off and wax. Works great. For touch ups, the first 4 inches of the shaft and a wrap polish I use a water based polyurethane that is used for hardwood floors and trim.
Just wondering if I was to cut my store bought with water, I would end up with my own version of SST shaft sealer.

I'm no no builder, just a so so player, I go with Dave Sutton's regiment. All my shafts I buy ready made an nice come with my cues. The best thing I have ever put on my shafts is butcher bowlers wax. Great stuff.

not cm- but worth posting

Mr. Richard Black showed me how to use a motor oil and baby powder paste-then buff. another way- polyurethane then sand-then the buthers wax. I am a player who does clean the shafts after playing!!!

Deft clear wood finish and laquer thinner 50/50. buff it out with 2500 and then i use the brown paper towels out of the restrooms to burnish the shaft. i use no waxes!
