Playing in a 10ball tournament yesterday, I was hill hill on the 9. Pocketed the 9 and ended up coming up short on the 10ball like this:

So what is your shot from here? Hill-hill, winner is in the cash, loser is not.

Question

I have a Mac, what do I need to view this?

First off...I would have played the 9 in the upper corner pocket..

You could do a number of things with the 10 ball.

You could kick at it for the upper corner pocket...(probably stupid)

You could kick at it for the lower corner pocket...(probably more stupid)

or

I would send the 10 ball two rails to the other end rail and leave the cue ball right there..(hopefully frozen to the end rail)

Since the cue is on a slight angle to the 10 you could easily bank the 10 long and stick the CB...the 10 hit with the right speed would 2 rail to probably about the 2 diamond on the end rail.

The other option....(if you can comfortably reach the CB) is to play a rail first spin shot into the upper corner pocket.

You did not mention if this is on a bar box or 9'

Or

Thin the 10 on the right side with right and go 4 raills back to the end rail.

Same shot-only sent cb 2 rails to about center diamond on bottom short rail. Think cb speed-try to freeze cb to the 'gum'. Leave ob pretty much where it sits.

If he gets out from there-tip your hat to him- and curse yourself for coming up short from the 9 to the 10.

What did you do? Who won?

If this was Neil's 'wachagonadoo?, I figure he won by kicking the cb 4 rails 'long' and thin cut the 10 into the top right pocket with enough speed to leave the cb back on the bottom rail as a two way safety valve.

Hit the 10m ball full with a little right English. This double kiss will keep the 10 ball on the end rail and the cue ball will go straight up table to the other end rail. Your opponent will have a bank---but not the easiest.

I like the four-railer into the top left pocket.
Hit it firmly, bottom left. Hit well, the cue ball should go 3 or four rails and stop frozen to the end rail, a diamond or so from the top right pocket.

This is a better one pocket ploy, where a good shot leaves the 10 near YOUR hole. For 10-ball, play the shot favoring the side rail...so if you miss the 10 ends up on the foot rail (and whitey ends up on the head rail).

Practice this bank...its not as out-of-control as many would think.

This is where it pays to know your opponent. If you know he is a very good banker, then you know you probably aren't going to get a worthwhile safe and you have to go for the shot. No matter what the odds. Better to go down swinging. !

I like this mentality. I hear some people say don't worry about your opponent, just play your game. Sorry, If you know your opponents strengths and weaknesses, I think you need to adjust your game accordingly.

safety

thin the 10 on the right hand side trying to move it as little as possible, sending the cuball three cushions to the back rail hopefull on the rail close to the first diamond. this will leave the long bank out and a tough safety, if he does get the ball back to the other end rail he will most likely leave you a makable long bank with the chance of freezing the cueball on the back rail.

My first thought was to thin it, like most have said. I struggle thinning balls and even worse with the bridge.

I elected to play this safe. I thought for sure it was going to end bad, but I felt it was the best option for my ability.

It actually ended very well for me. The 10ball was nearly frozen and the cueball was close to the rail. They tried to bank it and ended up leaving me a 3' straight in shot.

I lucked out but I really wanted to get the opinion of everyone else. I think most are right, thinning the ball is the right shot provided the cueball ends up in a good spot. I don't feel confident enough in it. Its something I should work on.

Tj-

I like the idea. l would like it better if the 10ball and cb were the same distance from the side rail.

With about 1/2 ball diffference, hitting the 10 ball full, I think the double kiss will push the 10 ball close to the top right pocket. With the right on the cb-probably hit side rail on the way down table. Thats ok, but I would be worried that 10 ball becomes a hanger.

Straight on, I like it-better chance of sticking the 10 at the rail. Angled like it is -not as much. but I do like the idea. Now, get the bridge out of the way quickly too. (bad experience talking)
