How good are Balabushka cues?

about the same unless your asking about the hand made originals.

There are good ones and not so good ones like anything else. The good ones hit as good as any other good hitting cues. They are collectables and represent a historic era in pool cues. But ultimately they are just peices of glued and turned wood made by a normal man like many are still made today, many of those even made to higher standards.

I like the look of some of those replica Balabushka cues, except for the gaudy fake signature. Adam of Japan can make some nice cues, but I've never hit a ball with those GB series.

adams

Had one replica balabushka that fell apart. It was used when I took it in on trade and came out of California.

I felt bad about the cue starting to fall apart right after I sold it to a local player.
I was willing to refund his money, and he want no part of giving up the cue.
The butt sleeve and the joint caller had came loose , Glue failure possible cue was left in hot car.

I repaired the cue and gave it back to the new owner and he loved it..
I told him a few times that the cue was a replica, I don't think he understood what I was saying.

That is the only adams/buska cue I have been around.

I didn't feel right about the cue being a replica and still calling the cue a Balabushka instead of a Adams. And I made that very clear but it was still a play of words.
The new owner would show off his new cue, and he only called it a bushka.
I felt it was like being dishonest. Regardless that bothers me .

Bottom line its no bushka...... never has been never will be .
Its a Adams replica... Made in japan .
I really think the heat got to this cue but I could be wrong,

Yeah I got to shoot with one of the higher end replica cues, it hits terrible. The guy who gave it to me and let me shoot it, was doing me a favor... "your the first person ive let hit with this"... I pocketed 2 balls and gave it back. They are pretty but you can get a better cue for $150.

I'm kind of interested in what the new "blond" Balabushka chalk is all about ---> HERE

The Balabushka chalk is great, if it's the same product in tan, and someone has a light colored cloth, I'd recommend it.

Balabushka chalk is very similar to Blue Diamond, smoother than Masters but not quite as smooth as Magic chalk.

As far as cue pick, I'd go with Shon, all things being equal such as no preference for wood joint or metal. In theory, Shon and Joss should hit almost the same but Shon has a more solid hit. None of those brands are bad though, I played with a Joss for about a decade.

Strange. I tried one and it hit very nicely and was solidly built. Some say there are differences between the "older" ones and the new ones. The one I tried (for an extended period of time) was one of the first made. It was a very well playing cue, not to stiff nor too soft. I very much doubt you could get a cue that nice for 150 dollars new. If you had said 300 dollars, I would possibly agree, but it would still be a more basic design.

One of the first made bushkas? Wouldn't that cue be worth a fortune?

Just for clarity of communication, you might want to delineate between

Adams Balabushkas

and

Genuine George Balabushkas.

True, to be fair though, they both shoot balls in the pocket about the same.

Hey, I'm big on Adams cues, for sure not saying one plays better or not.

Just saying that the confusion here (as it often doesn't on AZ) seems to stem over one guy meaning one thing and another guy hearing something else.

Obviously I was talking about the production (Adams) ones, that would be clear if you read my previous posts. Why would he want to compare priceless collectibles against run-of-the-mill production cues?

When you say "obviously" would that mean "clear to everybody" or "clear to everybody that was in your head"? If you'll take a look at the OP's post #14 (in response to your post #13), you might be able to see that the point you were making to the OP was obscured by his lack of understanding about which older Balabushka you were speaking of. Which is why I suggested what I did.

Thanks

Kevin
