How good does Joey A play?

Thanks for the walk through of your thought process at the table. Really my question was whether you set that shot back up later since you had video evidence to make the lay of the balls pretty exact and explored whether your perceived outcome on other options was reality or not. I have watched you play on some vids and know you don't shoot slow. I also see you're not really a CTE guy by how often you line up the contact point with your stick:smile: (not relevant to this discussion, just an observation) The problem as I see it with the two rail kick you chose there is because of the angle you can't get much momentum on the cue ball so any hit you make on the five that doesn't pocket it will likely result in a sure sell out, as was the outcome there. (I bet you thought so at the time). Not much chance for separation of the five and cue ball. Also a perfectly pocketed five was going to give you tough shape on the seven. About where you ended up really. I had fun setting up your shot and exploring options on the table and not just in theory. I always enjoy doing this with the "how would you shoot this" questions I see. Of course my table is nine foot so it's a bit different.

JC

On a bar table, you pretty much assume that when you are kicking long distance that if you don't make it, no matter what method you use for kciking, if you miss making the shot with three object balls on the table, spread well, you most likely, always going to leave a sell out. My goal is was to not scratch, try and make the 5 ball, hit the 5 ball and all of them in that order. I knew I would MOST LIKELY leave Robb a shot if I missed but if I did miss, I did not want him to have cue in hand. You never know when you are going to get lucky on a two rail kick with a safety. It's a long shot.

Also, if you know much about CTE/Pro1, you should know that you can use other visual information during the process of using it, not that this is part of the 5 ball shot.

On this particular shot, it isn't really important to go back and try the other combinations of potential shot selections because I KNOW from past experience that the one I used, was the one I can perform the most consistently. I probably hit a coupole of shots kicking off of the side rail different ways but I already knew that my accuracty was with Joe V's two rail kicking system (because I practice it a lot) and because it is very good.

Anyone who wants to play JoeyA should send him a PM with your real name, city, state and pool room. ;)

Jay Helfert has already bullied me into a match of one pocket and we'll get to it one day.

Keepin' a list, checkin it twice.

Don't feel hurt if I don't respond. ;-) I get a lot of PMs.... :D

Are you coming to Vegas in May? We can play some for 50 a game until you wear me out.
Then you can shout from the mountain top "I beat Jay Helfert!"
No Banks, One Pocket only, your game!

I heard he is practicing mind control aiming ! :) He doesn't even need to stroke he just sends the balls flying in the pockets with his mental prowess !

Makes sense to go with what you have confidence in. Had you actually made the five it looks like the cue ball would have passed within about a half inch of the ten. Yikes!!

You said this earlier to Jason. "I didn't want to kick off the side and bottom rail to the back side of the 5 ball for fear of scratching." Sometimes we get set in our ideas and believe things that aren't actually true. It's extremely difficult to scratch in the close pocket on that shot due to the distance of the five from the rail and the running english on the cue ball. Don't believe me? Set it up, I'll give you ten tries for a dollar. Bet you can't scratch once.

Draw would have been good. I just am not that good especially when leaning over the table like that.
I mean draw off the long rail. Not short - long.
Its hard from the camera angle to see if you could get far enough down to get around the obstructing ball with this technique.

I think it would take a stroke about like your avatar to pull that one off.;)

No, I won't make it to Vegas this May. I may make it to the tunica event in July. Will you be there. I think we have a slightly larger dollar game already promised and if I win, you won't hear a whisper from me.

If you can't scrounge up another 1pocket game (I know I'm a poor substitute for The Great Joey) I'll be around in Vegas.

Sounds like fun Lou. I'm just looking for some friendly action and not against some champ. I want you to know I'm on a strict practice regimen now. I play two to three times a week for an hour or so!

Oh so now you're gonna high roll me! I may have to find a backer.

i dunno about Jay, Joey... He scares me with the unknown factor, you set a game up with him and next thing you know, he runs 19 racks on you and then tells you hes never run more than 3 in all his life! lol

Why do you think they call him JoeyA?

I heard a rumor that MikeH is gonna change Joey's handle to JoeyAplus!

Joey is just an average player that gets lucky now and then. I'm pretty sure he would welcome the chance to get lucky if you want to play him a few games for a few dollars.

I am your huckleberry, I think JoeyA is probably a great player given what I have heard but I might not be able to enter the BCPAPL so
singles this year so if there is a ABZ 9- foot there i will up for a couple hundred to try him just for the experiance and the challenge.

Looking at the shot again it looks like there's plenty of room for a 1 rail kick.
The plus 2 starts to get a little squirrely starting around the area the CB was and IMO the amount of draw needed if any on a 1 rail kick was minimal especially on a pool table, tiny ball and likely a short angle table compared to a 3C table. Stepping up to hit a plus 2 on a shot like this you better know exactly how the table plays. Otherwise you get similar results in the vid. He hit it good but it came up short against the book which is to be expected on a pool table. One rail banks are more predictable than plus 2 no matter what table.

Excuse the derailment

can't speak for Joey of course

I can't speak for Joey but he'll probably play a few games if you find yourselves in the same place. He is usually up for an experience and challenge himself.

Joey I'll give you the 8 but it's gonna have to be on a 20 second shot clock =) I like Robb and all but I don't have his patience.... Or his new hair color which at least I am thankful of....

I'll accept your offer.

Unfortunately, I am not a great player but I enjoy playing one pocket. I want to play Ghosst so if I am up your way, I will parlay any winnings from his match. Otherwise, I will have to knock the cobwebs off of my wallet to play.

i remember there being an 8 ball match between archer and efren and i dont think its on youtube any more? I think archer took twice as long as Joey did on one shot he was hooked on.
