How hard is this shot?

Neil,

I think your more likely to see this shot on a 9' table rather than the 7' table as you suggested earlier. On a bar table the likelyhood of scratching and losing the cue ball is higher than the 9'. I am noticing its easier to go down and back (with bigger margin for error) as I am playing more on the big table now.

Just my thought.

I agree with Andrew completely on his answer. .

And after an hour of trying to do it the way I diagrammed it, so do I. The problem wasn't so much with the spin as it was with the speed I needed to generate to get it go that way. By the time I started getting it to go were I wanted it to, I had completely lost control of the cue ball. I tried it about 10 times, and for getting it right on the first try, I would say that he made the right choice by going up and down table.

it's funny because I orig. though as many did that the shot was a 2 rail kick shot and I was going to call BS on the people saying it was not a hard shot and only like a 7 difficulty rating.

How many pool players does it take to change a light bulb?

100! One guy to do it, and another 99 to sit around and talk about how they could have done it better.

Pretty good shot and leave in my opinion. So good that I'd call it lucky to end up that good. When taking speed into consideration, ending up short or long are the most likely results.
And, I don't know too many top pros that could do it consistently like say 7 out of 10 tries. Keep in mind, I also don't know many pros that would try to play it that way either.

I agree, this is a low percentage shot for ANYBODY. I dont think Efren could make it 7 out of 10.

I agree with Andrew completely on his answer. The only difficulty in shooting this shot is getting in position with a crutch to shoot the shot, and getting the crutch out of the way before the cue ball rebounded off the foot end rail to hit the crutch on the way back. THAT IS THE DIFFICULT PART OF THE SHOT.

Scott Lee - I have no qualms about accepting your challenge especially with 10 tries except I am only 5'7" tall and do have a doubt as to whether I could reach far enough with a crutch without being too stretched out.

In other words, I would have to see if I could get in a proper position first before I would say yea or nay on accepting the challenge.

You can do this shot, I'm 5' 6, maybe a hair over. With how things were positioned, the bridge was not really in the way, I shot using the right-most support, and the angle of the shot with a bit of right spin carried the cue ball a bit to the right of the bridge. Because the cut was so thin, you would have to use a bit of right or the cueball would head pretty much staight up the table.

Barkeep, pour some heavy ones!

For all ya'll thinking hang the 9 was using a bridge to do a 2 rail kick on the
11: PENALTY CHUG!

For all ya'll thinking hang the 9 would shoot such a silly shot playing one pocket: PENALTY CHUG!

Here, allow my GF to show you how it's done:

Man, I love this place.

I'd give it a 7 since I reserve 10 for impossible shots. It's the sort of shot a pro would be very pleased with but it wouldn't startle his opponent -- not like some of Efren's kick shots or that looping draw shot of Corey's.

I set this up on my home table. Now.. if I have to do it off hand, I was 4 out of 10. Doing it on the other side, where I'm stroking with my normal hand, I was 7 for 10. It wasn't really that hard of a shot.

I'm going to have to go a bit lower and say a 4.5. Cut it in, and let the cue ball run a bit.

The toughest thing I had off hand was putting unwanted spin on the ball. But hey.. it was off hand.

Getting the speed right and getting the bridge out of the way to avoid a foul make it a difficult shot, at least for me.

Avoiding that foul is a little tricky; the CB is coming back directly toward the bridge head, and with speed. It helps if you choke up a little on the bridge with your off hand.

And here I thought moving the cue ball 20 feet accurately was hard, I guess I'm not very good as when I made that shot I was pretty happy with it.

I wasn't using a mechanical bridge... I shoot off hand pretty well.

About once or twice a year I'll use a mechanical bridge. It's pretty hard to get some place I can't reach either right or left handed.

I'm 50 for 50

I'm fifty for fifty making that shot on the computer. I'd probably do alright after a try or two in practice on a pool table. Trying to make that shot when it matters with no second chance it's a wee bit harder!
