How hard is this shot?

hang-the-9

From my memory, this was one of the best position shots I have made, had to shoot using a bridge.

I'd give it a 9, maybe 10 because A. bridge use B. cue ball close to object ball at a fairly sharp angle C. had to travel 2 1/4 table lengths and stop. Although the cueball did have a natrual path to the angle, with only a bit of spin

id just take the same line except stop it like 1/8th the distance you put it and just bank the 14 in the side

Just as much chance to miss as the one you shown lool

Wow, you guys are brutal. I don't think that shot will be made more than 1 out of 10 tries at best (by anybody but a top pro...and maybe not even then). I'd call it the "luckiest shot ever". Personally, I'd just do a soft partial masse', and cut the 11 in. Of course you're still gonna be pretty tough on the 14 ball.

Scott, I've got $100 that says you can't make that shot (that way) even once in 10x. If you're interested, I'll set something up in Wichita, and can get it recorded and posted on You-tube.

I agree with Mr. Lee. If the game is 8-ball, why wouldn't you shoot the 14-ball or what Scott suggested? If the game is one-pocket, I think several shots are much easier. I must be missing something.

[Much later and more-awake edit: I was missing something! I had the starting and ending points for the cue ball reversed! Sorry.]

skill to make the shot yea about a 7... skill to put yourself in that position.. about a 2.. looks like the end of an ill advised run out attempt to me..no one plans to leave those 2 balls for last...

nice shot though..

How many pool players does it take to change a light bulb?

100! One guy to do it, and another 99 to sit around and talk about how they could have done it better.

Pretty good shot and leave in my opinion. So good that I'd call it lucky to end up that good. When taking speed into consideration, ending up short or long are the most likely results.
And, I don't know too many top pros that could do it consistently like say 7 out of 10 tries. Keep in mind, I also don't know many pros that would try to play it that way either.

If the game is 8 ball, this is a much easier position option (below Cuetable diagram)- cut the 11 in and use some low right to pull the cue ball into the rail, off the 2 - and the CB will trickle in the same direction. The scratch isn't very likely - IMO, you're more likely to scratch by using you're route.

Either way, great shot!

I looked at the shot the same way to begin with LOL

You're defying physics. The cut on the 11 is extremely thin; even with superhuman amounts of spin you couldn't even hit the 2, much less get all the way under it.

The OP played the shot correctly, from that position. You can hit the ball firmly enough to be confident about cutting it in, and it's fairly natural to get on the 14; really it's just a speed control shot.

Scott Lee, I'll take your 1 in 10 tries challenge any time, and I'm quite confident I can clean you out doing so. This shot is much easier than that.

What I wouldn't like, is if you gave me just 1 try to do it, like the OP had in this game. That's when the shot becomes exceptional.

FWIW, I'm with Neil, I like the shot. It allows for some speed/spin error and still having a makable shot. Alot of times, I see things drawn up which I think, ok, do I really wanna play that much spin, and the be shooting for a crossing pattern leave. Any leave, approaching or going away from the next balls straight in shot path is best.

I make this shot in my sleep. But only when I'm dreaming. ;)

It's a helluva shot, one that would be easy to lose your natural tangent by catching the OB too full/thin, or not hitting center CB.

Bravo. I'll give you 7.5 Kamui tips out of 10.

Thats a helluva tough shot. I'd like to see some attempts of it posted. Not saying it can't be done, but I'm with Scott I think the number of times that shot is made is VERY low.

Two more shots to go.Typically I would go on to make the 14 and then miscue shooting off of the rail at the 8. C'est la vie! Hope you won it . Nice shape on the 14.
