How long before Earls wins?

I just watched the entire Mosconi Cup and without a doubt Earl is a true champion that can get it done! It is just a matter of time and he will win again. He didn't beat the wold pool champion the "Peach", he broke him down on a national stage and dominated him! Say what you want, bash him all day, but he is a force that will not lay down on the USA team. I just hope that somehow someway the euros will come to the derby next month and look him up for some action. My window will be open!!!!:)

Unbelievable that the original post could not spur some Earl bashers out of the closet! Deep down I just don't see any euros going head to head with the him for anything other than a trophy! Good luck to you Earl in your comeback and keep grinding!:D

Allow me. He will never be able to do that consistently, his head is not screwed on straight. And it was only a race to 6, so it was almost like it was too short for him to completely melt down. Give him a race to 11, throughout a whole tournament, and he may go deep, but a win? Don't think so.

Earl has not won anything of note in years. He remains a living legend, but as a competitor, his day has come and gone. My opinion is that he'll never post a top three finish in a premier event again.

Nobody thought that Jack would win the 1986 Masters either. But he found the magic that week. I know it doesn't look good for Earl today. But I'm not gonna bury him just yet.

I challenge anyone to name 5 americans that can consistently beat Earl at all the games? Sad to say but besides Shane and maybe Cory he remains high on the totem poll, love him or hate him!;)

Rodney M, John S., Danny H, Johnny A, Allen Hopkins, and about 20 more from the US IMO. Johnnyt

I agree Johnny, Alot of players can beat Earl more than 50% of the time...

If Earl would get on some meds, maybe his game would go back up...
He is too streaky to consistantly beat the top players IMO

You named some good players but none of them never have nor ever will have the success at his level. How many of those will be in the hall of fame while still playing? Rodney? Please!;)

You mean like Ralf and Earl. A little 9-Ball for ten or twenty grand. I only wish!

I think you have Earls CURRENT level of play Misjudged... JMO

And yes, I have seen him get drilled in person... And yes he threw a hissy fit both times he lost...

True, he has not won anything of note in about 7 years.
True, he remains a living legend (and very deservedly so)

The odds look like your last sentence will be prophetic.

BUT....I'll be strongly rooting against you being right on THAT forecast!:)

If anyone in pool can make such a comeback, why wouldn't or couldn't it be Earl? He has not lost his knowledge, love of the game or competativeness. Something is missing in his mental game is my best guess. I only hope he gets it figured out quickly. I would love to see him have a renaissance in his career, ala how Efren did a couple of years back.

I wish Earl Strickland would write an autobiography or an instructional book filled with some of his anecdotes and stories from his career.

7 years? He won the World Pool Championship in 2002. And, he did win the Carolina Open One Pocket this October to the surprise of many.

While he didn't win it, he kicked some serious arse in the 2005 US Open and came in 4th.

Time will tell if he can surprise us with one more big event win.

Wow. You really got me there Shinobi!

5 years 4 months and 27 days since he won his last World Pool Championship on July 21, 2002.

I don't think SJM was refering to the aforementioned "Carolina Open One Pocket Championship" as an upper echelon title. A great and noteworthy accomplishment to be sure, but we're rooting for a 7th World 9 Ball Championship, a 6th U.S. Open, a BCA Open 9 Ball Championship or perhaps a DCC 9 Ball Championship.

Like you, I'll be cheering for him to knock off another major win.

I respect each and every opinion here, but remember gambling and tournament play is totally different. You would have to be mental to believe there to be 20 americans that would beat Earl heads up in a session. Not a race to 5 or 7, like 10 ahead or race to 100. I can already hear it tommorow if Johnny wins the meaningless IPT b.s., all the bashers will be typing away hoping to further degrade the Pearl. Jay, do you believe Ralph is a huge favorite? How will he play with the derby crowd looking on? I have read many posts stating that he doesn't gamble.

RALF would definitely play a Challenge Match with Earl, and yes, at this time I think he is a big favorite. I doubt we will ever find out though. After that blow out with Shane, I don't see anyone staking Earl in another Challenge Match.

I respect your opinion but don't see the cup win as a real edge. I believe a nine ball ahead set favors Earl due to his high gear. I understand Shane beat him rather easy, but Cory also lost by a wide margin. I do believe that someone will step up their game in the future and challenge Shane. I would love to see Cory or Earl play him 9 ball soft break. I think it could be a totally different outcome. My vote for the next mosconi cup is to get maybe Danny Harriman and Kid Delicious on the team to help Earl and Shane. I like players that hate to lose to anyone and those two definitly have huge heart!:)

I don't care how they play. Ahead, behind, long races, short races, on top, on the bottom or sideways. Anytime you see Earl scheduled to play a match with Ralf, look me up and you have a bet. PERIOD!
