How long before Matchroom dumps the US?

With the growth of pool, television and consumerism in the Pacific Rim, can it be very long before Matchroom replaces the US team with an Asian team: Europe vs. Asia-Pacific Mosconi Cup?

Note, this has nothing to do with won/loss records, competitivness, etc. It's strictly from a money-perspective of maximizing the audience/ad dollars. If ESPN wants to expand its brand in the Asia-Pacific region, it would be a good move for them too.

It would be interesting to know how many people (and from what countries) watched the Mosconi Cup via TV, computer streaming, etc. I bet it was fewer than 5,000 in the US. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that more people in Asia-Pacific watched the Mosconi Cup than in the US.

How about 3 events...USA vs Europe & PI vs Asia with winners moving on to the final event?

WHY????

Because they are waiting on YOUR marketing and YOUR knowledge to guide them.

With such an informative statement about a game I'm sure you've been around for over fifty years....I'm sure your position can be of help.

Let us all know what transpired with your optimism that is prevalent in our dysfunctional/congressional/gridlock ME me me, muck of the generation after me. MY WAY or the HIGHWAY :p

My Grandfather smoked his whole life. I was about 10 years old when my mother said to him, 'If you ever want to see your grandchildren graduate, you have to stop immediately.'. Tears welled up in his eyes when he realized what exactly was at stake. He gave it up immediately. Three years later he died of lung cancer. It was really sad and destroyed me. My mother said to me- 'Don't ever smoke. Please don't put your family through what your Grandfather put us through." I agreed. At 28, I have never touched a cigarette. I must say, I feel a very slight sense of regret for never having done it, because your post gave me cancer anyway.

Why it was ever called the Mosconi Cup escapes many, including me. Willie HATED 9-ball.

Pretty much everything escapes you. I'll break it down for you:

Person A: Hey, the Ryder Cup is a great idea... we should do that for pool
Person B: Good idea! What will we name it?
Person A: Well, Willie Mosconi is known as the best ever, how about "The Mosconi Cup"?
Person B: Great idea... what game should we play, 8ball? 9ball? Straight pool? Willie loved straight pool!
Person A: Well, straight pool is boring as all f*ck so that's out. 9ball is exciting for the crowd, how about that?
Person B: But Willie HATED 9ball...
Person A: Who gives a sh*t?
Person B: Great point! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

I'm sure that if Willie Mosconi walked into Barry Hearn's office and said "Change the game of the Mosconi Cup to something other than 9-ball!" that Barry would comply.

Until that day, it's 9-ball.

The dead don't get to vote unless they lived in Chicago. :D

Is this really necessary? Still angry after that dress code thread? :)

'Twas just a point of associating Willie with 9-ball, 's all. Your two-person discourse above may not be far from the truth in how his name got to be associated with a 9-ball event.

"Cleary, what's wrong, man? What's with all the hostilities? Whatchoo doin' with all this gun, man?"

lfigueroa posted this yesterday in another thread:

"At last year's MC HOF dinner, during his induction speech, Barry Hearn said he went to ask Mosconi's widow if he could use the name. He said she said (though I believe Hearn called her by the wrong name), that Willie would love it."

Maybe Flora didn't know Willie well. They had been married for only 40 years.

His wife OKed it after Willie's death. Willie did, indeed, hate nine ball, and might have asked them to call it the "Lassiter Cup." Wimpy loved nine ball.

or maybe he had the same conversation with Barry that we did last year.

Why not east vs west. Best of Europe, USA, Mexico, Canada etc against the pacific rim.

Ok, I didn't see that post by Lou. Great parlay of what Barry said at his acceptance speech! That answers everything.

Winnie Beannie Cup or Wimpy Cup (Lassiter) just sounds wrong.

Don't you just hate auto correct?

Weenie.

Didn't edit me.

O.K., here we go:thumbup:.

Nice thread title:p. How long before Matchroom dumps the US?

Only the US can dump the US as has been often proven in the past.
