How many times have you seen someone run out a set?

I seen Jeremy Jones run out 8 games of 9-ball in a row on Ryan McCreesh at the Carolins Open in a winners-rack format tournament. Ryan was helpless. :o

Then I saw Ryan McCreesh run a 7-pack on Keith McCready at the 2004 Virginia State 9-Ball Championship in Richmond, Virginia, at The Playing Field. Keith looked like he couldn't swallow a beebee. :D

I'd like to see a player run racks with a neutral racker. Then we'll see who the best run-out mechanic really is. JMHO, FWIW! :p

Kieth ran 7 and out on me in Vegas.

That would be Alain Martel?

I can't remember the player's name but his nickname is "The Dancing Bear", I believe.

I think you mean Alain Martel right Grady? He must be a very strong player as I believe he made it to the Final 4 of the WPC around 2001 or 2002........

Well, that's a novelty! :D

He's been struggling with his 9-ball break.

Have you ever seen a player miss a shot or break bad and they blame their equipment?

A few years ago, Keith received a brand-new jump cue, custom made. It was a real beauty. Unfortunately for Keith and the cuemaker, the first time he ever got to use it was on the TV table at the U.S. Open, in full view of a packed house.

The cuemaker was sitting in the gallery with his friends, getting nestled in to see the break cue debut. I can't remember who Keith was playing on the TV table, but every single time he broke the balls, going to 11, he never pocketed one. It was embarassing. :o

i've done it once, i was playing race to 5 for $100, we're tied 1-1, he breaks and doesn' t make a ball, i run out, then break and run the last three of that set, then break and run the whole next set, needless to say he pulled up after that little old 8pack! oh well

The best I have seen is Mike Vidas beat Paul Potier 9-0 where Paul had two kick shots during the match after Vidas safeties. 9 footers with rack your own. Mike was setting up the balls in the exact same order so they would end up in about the same locations after the break.

I have seen Jessie Bowman do it way more times than I like to think about. I would venture out on a limb here and say that since Kirkwood caught that extra gear a year or so ago that he has done it his own self quite a few times. before 2004 i would have put Bowman's ability over Kirwood anyday, Now I don't think that would be too smart.

I have seen it many times but the one that sticks out is when Louie Roberts ran the first set out, race to 5, on Dan Louie in Jackson, MS. Second set Dan raises the bet and Louie Roberts never wins another set.

I've seen it twice. First time I saw it, I did it (race to 7):D

Second time, I had it happen to me (race to 9)

I can remember twice that I did it: Once against Buddy in OK City and once against Cole in SoCal. Those were both 6 ahead sets.
Sorry to get off topic guys, but Grady, where did you guys play in Ok City?

150 and out

I know it's not a set but it's a match, definetly a feat. Mike sigel vs. Mike zuglan. Zuglan breaks and never returns to the table. It's an accu-stats match. I heard Zuglan came back to do it on someone else but don't know who...

It happens though. You can be hitting them squarely and feel good about the hit, but, nothing will fall. The other guy swaats at em with the cue cue ball all over the place and it sounds like it's raining. Frustrating!!!

Not quite...Zuglan ran 148 on Ray Martin, then got into a little bit of trouble with a tricky lay of balls near the end rail and played a combination which he missed. Zuglan was sick over the deal, and raised a fake gun to his head as if to shoot himself. It's on Accu-Stats.

I used to watch Zuglan and Grady play straight pool exhibition matches back in the late 80's early 90's up in Massachusetts, and it was always a great show. At the beginning of the tape where Sigel runs 150-and-out after the opening break on Zuglan, Grady says that he picked Zuglan to win the tournament (1992 U.S. Open). Zuglan's lag was within about a half inch or closer to the head rail, while Sigel's was almost frozen! So Zuglan broke and Sigel ran 150.

Awsome stuff, keep it coming! If anybody knows of a accu-stats 9 ball video where a player runs out the match from the opening break, please let me know.

Closest I know of is Danny Medina's 8+ racks against Billy Incardona in a Sand Regency tourney.

It happened to me.....

I have never seen it myself and would love to see a match tape of it. And yes I do have an ulterior motive. I have asked this question everytime the "alternate breaks vs. winner breaks" discussions come up, but have never been answered.

But I am truly interested in figuring out how often it occurs. Any stories would be great, I certainly hope Grady, Freddy, Jay or anyone else some road or tournament tales.
I was in one of the Cicchitti's tournaments and drew Tim Tweedel. I had just finished beating Jim Waluk and was shooting as well as I ever had, when I sat and watched Tweedel run 9 and out on me. I only got to the table to rack. I'm sure if it was alternate break it would have been a different match. The worst part of it all was that I drew Brady Gollan on the B side. I won 4 games but still lost 9-4. Brady ended up third that year...

Assuming you mean a set of nine ball, I've never seen it. I did see Souquet run an 8-pack against Immonen to get out of the set when the score was 1 - 1, but that's as close as I've come.
