Hey guys i am in the market for a John Davis Blank/ Finished cue. I am wondering if i can save money by going used or just buy the blank and have someone finish it. If i do decide to go down that route it is my first real custom cue so i am new to this and i have saved up around $1000 and i am wondering what a ballpark price is to finish a blank of my choice.

It all depends on what work you want done. If you just want it to be as is, like no extra work to the blank, it would probable be in the 300-500 range for the finish & shafts. If you want ringwork, inlays & a wrap, prices will probably go much higher.

I can't recall the name, but I believe there is a cue builder that regularly builds cues out of Davis blanks that has a relationship with him. I could be wrong but I think his name is Prince and if Davis supports him, probably a good choice.

Prince cues
I've heard mixed reviews, and it won't be 3-$500 with 2-shafts, probably double that.

I'd see about getting Jerry Rauenzahn to put his stink on a blank of that caliber. No idea on price, but its not going to be "Get the hell away from me" level money.

Jerry makes his own full splice blanks too, and they are very good. (better than the two examples of Davis blanks I have seen first hand.)

Again though, I have only seen two.

Davis blanks

I am not a huge fan of Davis blanks. I think you can find much better blanks or have the cuemaker make his own blank.

For $1000 or so and I wanted to have a cue made to my specifications, Rick Howard would be my first choice.

His veneer work is excellent, his cues play incredible, and he is a honest guy.

I wish you the best of rolls,

Ken

Being in the Chicago area for my entire life, I've never even heard a discouraging word about Prince cues, not one time. That's a rarity for cue makers in general. And no, I don't own a Prince cue, and never have. Thus, I'm not someone trying to prop up a guy whose cue I own.

Yes, he's installed a few tips for me, and I'd put his shop over just about anyone in the business. Immaculate, organized and every machine you can possibly need to make cues. Even Hercek loves the quality of this guys work, and that's saying something.

Agreed, I have never heard a negative about Prince cues either.

If I wanted to get a Davis blank, Prince would be one I would talk to as it seems they have partnered up before.

you'll get even prices from "Jerry -R-" and "John Davis" himself, if they'll accept the work.
about $800.00 plus return shipping.

Jerry R

In all my time here on AZ I have never heard one negative word about Jerry or the work his does. No Drama. Period end of story. Accepts work, performs quality
work, delivers quality work. And the pricing always seems reasonable.
A concept whose time has come.

You could check out Josh Treadway,,,I am more than
satisfied with his treatment of the Davis blank I sent
to him.

The Question is not about the blank , however I will add none of them specialize in just blanks and has the stock to pick from like Davis does he's the now version of titlest blanks second is not even close
However unlike in yesteryear it seams cues made from others blanks don't have the same value of a cue made by that maker ,

Would love to see some photos when finished and pm if you can what charges if you don't mind appreciate it!!

Just looking for a simple finish no inlays at all just some nice wood to match the forearm a LD shaft an I'm sold lol. I really love some of the lacewood blanks possibly a titelist 4 pointer. I prefer leather wrap as well.

I personally know John
If I was in the market for a Davis conversion I would go the route of Davis/prince collaboration
