How strong is Karen Corr?

Credit where credit is due ...

She won 2 tough matches in the end, she deserves
the credit. She does take her game seriously, and
you can see it in her expressions.

Now, if she would only get contacts ... lol

Hey hey...I am getting me some of those cool glasses soon myself...and if she is like me, she probably can't wear contacts. It's funny...I am near sighted in one eye and far sighted in the other...and have astigmatism in both I think. Weird eh?

Never heard of that ...

Can't wear them ... I could not wear them for 3 years after I had cornea
damage, but not because of my prescription. I am extremely near sighted
with astigmatism in the front and back of my eyes, which is why I have
to have 'hard' contact lenses. You can have soft lenses, my doctor tried
to put a half hard half soft lense on me once, and I hated them, they are
terrible. Glasses are like having a handicap playing Pool, IMO, plus they
can only correct my vision to 20/60 with glasses.

You have to agree that Karen is pretty strong though, her 'pecs' show it ... lol

Looks like we're going to have to revisit the women vs the men threads again. They were always the longest threads. I don't thing there was any reason for Allison to play the men seriously before but now with the IPT, I'd be really surprised if she doesn't give it her all because the money is too great not to go for it. It's going to be a fun time for pool in the next couple of years. I sure hope it runs longer than two years. KT has got to turn a profit for that to happen. I got my fingers crossed.

Last night, I spoke to a pool room owner from California, and the IPT is the talk of the town. One lady player who will be competing in the IPT King of the Hill Shootout is practicing daily and is currently taking 8-ball lessons to sharpen up existing skills and hone in on any peculiarities associated with the game of 8-ball.

I think many of us will be surprised at the outcome of the King of the Hill Shootout. Karen has always been a very strong competitor. Her intense focus is her strongest asset IMO, but she can deliver.

Knowing Mike Zuglan, he, of course, wanted to come in first place as opposed to runner-up, but if he had to lose to ANYBODY in the world, he most likely didn't mind too much losing to Karen Corr. She is a Joss Tour regular, a crowd favorite, and most definitely an asset to the sport/game.

Last year on the tournament trail, New York's Power Breaker Frankie Hernandez asked Karen Corr why she liked playing on the Joss Tour "with the guys." Her response with right on cue (pun intended). She said she likes the competition the Joss Tour offers to her, and it keeps her sharp and in tune with her game.

At the Golden Cue in Albany, NY, the Joss Tour host pool room let the community know who's coming to town by this sign on his front window! Everybody loves to see Karen Corr when she's in the house!

Jam,

Karen and Allison are so close to one another as far as their achievements in pool that if one does well, the other is likely to as well don't you think? I really think both of them will be in the top 50.

And it's not the first time...
You are correct landshark.., Karen won her first Joss event in April '03 at Ultimate Billiards in Berlin, CT.

At that event, the late Larry Lisciotti was up 8-3 on her and she won 6 in a row to win the match 9-8.., This set up the match for the hot seat where she lost to Jim Rempe 9-5.., her opponent on the one loss side was Tom "Shorty" D'Alfonso who was up on her 6-2 and she won that match 9-8.

This set up the finals where Corr defeated Rempe twice (9-5, 9-5) for the tournament win.

It just so happens that Ultimate Billiards is host to next week's Joss event.., let's see if she can do it again!

How strong is Allison then? Top 50 in the IPT. Bet on it!

Actually when it comes to playing the men I like Karen over Allison. Unfortunately Allison gets a spot over Karen due to the HoF byes. Karen has proven herself to be a threat against any of the men and she has paid her dues and played against them and the IPT is going to be old hat for her. The same can not be said for Allison, and that is why I like Karen when it comes to playing the men over Allison.

Whatever! Allison can kick her butt all day long, every day of the week, and then some. Karen is very tough though. That is my take.

Are you slow? I said Karen can play BETTER AGAINST THE MEN then Allison. And we have been given countless situations where Karen has proven herself to be tough against the men and we have NEVER seen Allison do the same. Wake the hell up man, I never said anything about Allison vs Karen.

You forget Allison had plenty of experience playing men in snooker...and she has also competed against them here in the Southeast. I think Karen is great and admire her for playing those events and winning...but no one has come close to dominating the wpba like Ally.
The only female I think is on that level is Jean (in her prime)...I so wish she was on that list! To see her and Ally play the men...now that would be something!

Aside from a 16 man invitational, Allison has only played in 2 men's tournaments and won them both. I rememeber when she won one of them- a Tommy K event down south. I only have the word of someone on the other win.

Allison is not in the HOF so she gets no spot. Allison does have a better/harder break than Karen in her arsenal imho

No... Really.... I am not talking about how well Allison OR Karen play against the other women of the world at all. How well they dominate the WPBA or not is completely irrelevant. {edit} shit, so she is not in the HoF....

OK, I am willing to bet $25 with WW via paypal on Karen being higher ranked then Allison on the IPT at the close of this year if he wants. If he chooses not to bet I will default to the next person who wants to make the bet.

I'm pretty sure Allison has played and won a couple of open tournaments on either the Viking or Florida (TK) tour.

There are a few things to take into consideration when you compare Allison and Karen. Allison was here quite a while before Karen so naturally she has more titles here. Both had to learn how to play 9b before they started doing well. Since Karen has gotten comfortable with 9b, the competition between them is pretty close.

I'd like to think it doesn't matter whether you're playing the men or women because when you're at the table, your opponent should be sitting down with their mouth shut, unless you're playing Earl. I think we'll just have to wait and see what happens but I'm damned excited about this whole thing! We're going to see some damn good pool and should just be plum thrilled about that.
