Anyone shot with a cue lately that they were shocked with on the hit. I have owned many a cue and when I picked up a viking the other day (I don't remember the model) it felt like a damn cue meant for me. I couldn't miss. I was very impressed for a cue design that I had no intention of being impressed by. The last time that happened was with a Lucasi. I thought ohh boy Chinese mass produced yada yada and WOW! So now I may have to buy a Viking. Never thought I'd say that.:ignore:

I got a Ariel Carmeli tru balance conversion from a member a while back. It looked very plain and I wasnt expecting much but as soon as I used it I couldnt put it down. Ive tried some southwests before(both franklin and the new ones) and IMO this is similar but better than any of them.

I also bought a china made snooker cue on ebay for $30. the shaft is bumpy and the grain is shit but for some reason I love the way it hits. It has a bit thicker taper so maybe thats why.

On the other side, most people around here when they buy "high end" cues, they get predator limited editions or something. I tried a P3 recently, and a couple others and hated the hit on all of them. only predator I like is the hoppe tribute or whatever its called. the joint on that makes for a better hit.

my palmer second catalog model e is amazing. i didnt expect to like it so much since it is about 2 oz. out of my normal weight range.

i have 3 cues coming in soon. 2 monsters and im hoping they hit as good.

I have to include Bryan....

To be honest, I bid on the cue that Bryan Fisher donated to TAR just to try and bump up the price on it for TAR. I didn't expect to win it and I definitely didn't expect to get it for such a great price. Then once I got it and started playing with it, it was a dream. It plays as good as any cue I've played with and better than most.

His cues are gorgeous , and would be even better with veneers. My bro has now bought one cue and ordered another from him and loves them as well.

Jaden

Everyone should buy one of his cues...

I won an entry-level McD once and I could not believe how much I liked it. It became my "daily driver" for quite a while.

I bought a used KC cue on EBay. The guy yanked my chain for quite awhile.
When I finally got the cue, it wasn't the one that I won. It was one of the KCs that you can usually win for $40. Not a half bad looking cue, inlays are way off center, points are different sizes, etc. I got my moeny back and the guy didn't ask for the cue back either. This is a very nice playing cue.
Don't use it much but it serves its purpose as a bar cue.

I have said this a thousand times on here. It's hard to buy a "bad" cue these days.

McDermott, Viking, Pechauer, Schon, Huebler, even Meucci - are cuemakers that have been around the block and they are building solid cues (ok Meucci is still suspect) and any cue from them is completely acceptable and some of them have an exceptional hit.

The Taiwanese/Chinese cues are also very good on average. The main factories are all using the same techniques as the large and small cue makers in the USA. Bill Stroud taught one and then the other one hired away the best engineer from that factory. Not to mention that McDermott and others have lent their expertise.

So most of the cues from Asia are really good with the chance that any one of them can have an exceptional hit. Our Sterling sneaky petes for $59 are jam up and surprise a lot of people. The Fury DL series for $115 impresses a lot of good players.

And people like Mezz and Adams have been in the business for 30 years and their cues are great and anyone of them you pick up could have a Really Sweet hit.

So it's tough to buy a cue that is unplayable these days and if you buy a cheap one you might get a pleasant surprise and get one that has just the right woods to make it a super hitting cue.

Exactly, I followed the lead you gave me JB and got hooked up with that company. Very nice people, accomodating and easy to do business with.
I'm very impressed with the j/b cues I ordered and they are catching on here real well. Can't beat the price and I make a bit on resale.
Thanks.
Terry.

I had this happen about 2 weeks ago. i was in the pool room and had a great money game but hadnt planned on being at the pool hall so I didnt bring my equipment. I borrowed a lucasi form one of the regular "bangers" and was completely impressed by the way the cue played. I was so impressed that I found a Lucasi on ebay for $100 and picked it up. Good looking and pllays well !! I also had a Carmeli Tru Balance conversion which I regretfully let go of and really want it back !!! It does hit as well or better than Southwest !!

HAH! Your the guy that bought that cue on ebay. I wasn't able to be at home in time to snipe it. LOL

i once had a sneaky pete by josey that iI called the draw cue because it would put draw english on the ball like nothing i ever saw,i played with Jerry Franklin in Dallas one day and he exchanged cues for the session with a look of awazement on his face when he saw the cue ball rush back at unusual angles,Jack Potter of Libra cues came over grabbed the cue and hit a few balls and stood there scratching his head in wonderment.Icould go on but Dennis Glenn, the famous cue collector from Houston, hit a few balls with it and wouldn,t leave me alone until he purchased the cue to put in the collection with his historical cues for display.

Jack Potter was so impressed he had me call Josey and order him one,Keith said it was just a regular sneaky pete with a ferrule made from a cueball,he never heard of anything supernatural about the drawability but if Jack wanted one ,he would make him one and so we tried to catch lightning in a barrel for the second time.

I've had mostly Vikings over the years. I bought a new G27 Viking a few months ago and like it very much. I have played with $5000 cues (not mine) and cheap Players and a cuetec. I always comeback to Viking. But really, everyone is different with what feels good to them. Johnnyt

If yours was the one with the linen wrap, I have it now.

Also hit with some falcons recentley and was very surprised how nice it was. great balance with a firm hit, but still some whip in the shaft. My favorite hitting production cue by far.

LOL. I have a Meucci, and the quality is actually quite good. And since I replaced the black dot shaft with a Predator, it plays nice too. It's a little embarrassing to take out in public, though. Everyone looks at you like you are an idiot for buying a Meucci. And maybe I was.... :D

I have had a JW, TAD, hit with many Southwest, Kersh, Carmeli. I had Pechauer build a cue. When i got it and hit the first ball I knew I would never get rid of it. Both shafts play amazing. I believe that Pechauers standard line of cues are some of the best production cues made. There custom side is even more amazing.
