How to calculate your Fargo performance in a particular tournament?

so anyway, to actually answer the question:

1 - Add up your number of wins at the event
2 - Make an initial guess at a rating
3 - For each opponent, multiply the single-game win probability based on your guess by the number of games you played against them. Add the results for each opponent to get an expected total tournament win count based on your current guess
4 - Adjust guess and repeat 3 until you get a close match

It looks like Fargo treats 8, 9 and 10 ball played on either 7 or 9 foot table as the same, that is, a game. I don't believe any extra weight is given to 9 ft vs 7 ft ... I hope I am wrong, but that seems to be the case.
Table is the same for both players. So is the game. So relative skill should be the same no matter where they play.

There are folks who only play bar box and whose. Game would suffer on a 9’ table but they normally adjust pretty quickly.

If you had a guy who plays 650 on a bar box but jumps on a big table and misses some shots and doesn’t have the speed down - he’ll obviously perform lower than that. But if he were playing a 9’ table tournament he would likely practice and get familiar with the table and it wouldn’t be fair for him to have a lower rating because once he adjusted he would still have all the knowledge and strategy - and even though he’ll miss more shots than he thinks he should - he’ll still pocket about the same relative to other players when you factor in their Fargo rating.

Well each table is a different track race track.

Road course v/s high speed oval.

Just my two cents, but I think I am right.
But if a 9’ table is harder (debatable) then you would have a lower Fargo rate on a 9’ table.

And so would your opponent.

So why does it matter? Fargo is a relative handicap, not an absolute.

My question has been answered. Thanks Easy-E and Skip100. This thread can be closed

HAHAHA, I don't do my kids' homework either. I guess I am lazy after all.

To me Fargo is stupid name for handicapping system for Pool.

Just find day much to add credibility to sport.

Like I said post the flipping link to the explanation of Fargo, or is your mission to be a world class selfish asshat❓❓❓❓

What's debatable about a 9ft being harder than a 7ft? You think its not? Please.

When I say it's not small sample friendly that means not only is your performance for the tournament small sample but so is your opponent's. You having a better than average day and they have a worse than average day doesn't raise or lower either one of your average play by much.

Beat players with a higher fargo than yours consistently and you will all seek your proper level but over one event the focus is too zoomed in to mean much.

There are lots of old threads devoted to it.

On equipment with bigger pockets there is less congestion and ball pocketing is easy. 8-ball on a big table with big pockets is about the easiest game there is. I think it's much easier than 8-ball on a bar table with big pockets in terms of runouts or innings per game.

Tight pockets are a different story.

I’ll help them by leading them to figure the answer out for themselves, like I’m doing with you. And I completely agree with your other statement “Just find day much to add credibility to sport.”

You could use a tournament website that does it for you like Digital Pool.

Or if you want to do it yourself, you can take all the games played during the tournament against each player and calculate the Fargo rate that gives you an expected result that most closely matches the actual result.

Yes. Sit back and holler at those who won't provide to you.

You're missing the point. It means something to the player as he can get some feedback on how he performed in the tournament. Like you said, his overall FR isn't going to change much, but that doesn't mean he can't get verification of how he played that tourney. This is especially true, if you're like me and you would often times rather play well and lose instead of play poorly and win.

You spoke about something you don't understand. He said there is a video out there if
you would like to understand. If facts are important to you... Might search for yourself?
