Well, people keep coming up with bad shots.lol
That IS true.
Lol, indeed.

Below is a 60 sec video showing the shot on an actual 9' table from various angles. It is 1000% impossible to draw to the end rail. I would bet no one could even draw and clear the side pocket point (using a normal stroke, not a jacked up in the air masse artistic billiards stroke).
Set it up and see for yourself.

Yeah, the weather. Thats what is keeping you from ever being able to do itAll day long in the Florida humidity. In Arizona maybe not.
Also I play a 21 oz cue and a milk dud. I think it might be possible with lepros or triangles. I wouldn't try it with a layered tip or a light cue.
My point being the shot selection literally changes with the weather. One rail spin will be risky on wet cloth. Very risky. Straight and firm much better.

I shot it most of the ways mentioned in this thread. Video below. (3 min for easy viewing)

In order:
2 rail zig zag:
Center draw
1/2 tip low, 1/2 tip left
3 rail forward:
Center right
High right
Low right
Center high
1 rail kill shot:
Low left
For me, the 2 rail zig zag was much easier with the 1/2 tip low, 1/2 tip left, than the straight draw. The straight draw required a much harder hit, and was less reliable.
The 3 rail forward routes, for me, the high right was best for this shot. The center right was fine also. The low right was not right for this shot. It killed the CB speed too much, and did not get a good angle on the 9. Hitting the low right harder, just defeated the shot and put too much draw on it, making the angle worse. Center high was impossible from this angle, I think someone mentioned that in the thread somewhere?
For the kill shot, the angle left on the 9 is no good. Whether the shot hit the thin or thick side of the pocket, the resultant position was not good enough.<--why are you 'killing' your cue ball..????????
Fun stuff![]()
IUTBRich,..Any accomplished pool player, will play this shot with low, left draw, hitting just above the side pocket..You are not killing the cue ball, you are using helping sidespin!..You would not even have to shoot real hard!..You should wind up, almost straight in, fairly close to the 9ball, on the short rail!
Any one who cannot execute this shot almost every time, simply does not have the stroke that even the average good player enjoys!...Cinching the 8, would be my only concern..The position part, is almost a gimme!
PS..I Shot it 10 times, with low left, and got good shape every time..(missed the 8 twice) I like those odds!..Can't imagine even attempting it any other way!![]()
You are talking about 1 rail, correct? Not 2 rails zig zag? I did not attempt that shot I will try it when I go back home. The angle to my eyes (at the table, not on the screen) would not be conducive to that shot. But I will try it![]()
Yes, 1 rail w/ LL..You can even set it up with a little more severe angle, and it will still be better than any other way..If I shot that shot with high right, I would miss the eight over half the time!..Try playing it the right way..You may like it!
PS..Did not mean to imply, you had NO stroke!..![]()

Ha ha all good. I "know" I have no stroke. Also, I was trying to show all the shots mentioned in this thread, since there was so much controversy. A top player should be able to execute all of the variations at will, and know which ones are even possible
I'll try the one rail spin shot in a bit. I'm about to order my third dinner! Ha ha.
Excuse the crude lines LOL

IUTBRich, Just to clarify..the top picture, (the 'not this' one) is the way I am shooting this shot every time!..
Your forte is supposed to be 1p. Why are you giving the wrong advice for a rotation game shot?
If I thought it was wrong, I wouldn't be giving it!..It is by far the simplest way to play the shot..I could easily demonstrate it, if we were on a table!..FYI, I played pretty decent 9ball for many years, before I ever took up 1P!..You must never have read either Buddy or Grady's books!..(I like their opinions better)![]()

I just spent half an hour shooting the 1 rail spin shot (while digesting my 3 dinners). I got positiin once I believe. Usually, the best I could do was landing the CB right on top of the 9. It was on that trajectory.
Then, I moved the 8 ball about 1.25 inches to the right. This time, I could get SJD's shot very well, with the CB climbing all the way to the end rail and about 1 foot from the 9.
I'm going to try the original position again see if I can improve it.
I'll upload the best example videos after I'm done trying the shot.
I can't figure out what you guys are discussing. Did you see this video? The 3rd shot cheats the angle with extreme draw but I had to move the 8 ball out a little further from the rail. It's easier with the red circle cue ball than the measles ball.
For me, with my stroke and cue ball, the two rail side to side shot worked best with one tip left, one tip low. - I thought the soft draw and cut the 9 in was the percentage shot if you didn't have to play shape after the 9.
