How to play this..

Opponent gave me ball in hand (didn't even shoot) I am stripes, and a ball has to hit a rail.

I hit the 12, into the 11, with a bit of bottom. (I placed the cue behind the 12 and shot so it would hit a rail. Trying to hide it behind my ball. It sent the 6 out enough so they could hit that in, and then come back for the 8, I lost..

What should I have done with this (Ball in hand)

I like having the 8 hit the end rail. The 6 should stay right there. So the opponent would have to kick at it. If you win bih again, send the 6 to the end rail in the same way.

You could also go for the shot and breakout and try to win in this inning.

Disclaimer, I am not a good player:)

Looks to me like you could have shot the 11 ball into the other corner pocket while breaking out the 6/8 and had a shot on the 12 to run out. Just my two cents.

Just set up the CB on an angle so when you shoot the 11 into the other corner pkt it runs into the 6 and breaks out the 8. Then 12 into the corner pkt thats shown and come around for the 8 in the same pkt. Pretty simple.

If for some reason the 11 doesnt go into the other corner... Bank the 12 out this way with a stop shot and force him to break it out.

Edit... this is a bad idea, didnt fully read OPs post about his opponent being afraid to shoot and just gave him ball in hand.

You had a wide open shot on the 11 in the corner with breakout on the 6-8. Why did a safe ever cross you mind?

THIAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!

I NEVER think of a safe, until I've ruled out the possibility of getting out. Safe is the LAST thing I think about, unless it is a table layout that Houdini couldn't escape from.

If he was afraid to shoot at it before, and give bih with a break out ball right next to it, I think he will be just as afraid now.

I like stop shop on 11. even if he kicks at the 6 and hits it, you have 2 balls that can be made. and if he hooks you, you got a nice kick safe anyways.

If he banks the 12 out and leaves him hooked behind the 11 then opponent would have to kick and open the cluster to get it out... not to mention you moved the 12 to a different portion of the table and the 11 is in the cluster... chances of not being able to see one of your balls from here is pretty slim.

Edit... misread original post... you were saying the oppoent gave him ball in hand because he didnt want to shoot it... my bad...

Now looking at it, i could have hit the 11, stopped it and had the 8 hit the far rail..

Against your typical league player, that's the shot. Most would then kick at the 6 and do the breakout for you.

But if you're playing someone strong and who moves better than you, you have to go for the breakout and win whenever it's laying this good.

Set the cue-ball for the 11...3/4 ball angle for the other corner...
...hit it high with a bit of right english....less than medium speed.

And before you do it.....ask for a matched set of balls....the 12-ball is cheap....
...the 11-ball is even cheaper.
If the cloth can't be replaced, at least vacuum it.

I would have hit a stop shot on the 11 to knock it out and foze him to his ball, that way I have an open shot no matter what happens. Breakout with ball in hand and making the 11 would be my next pick. Only reason I may not shoot that first is that something funky may happen on the break out, and if I have no shot or a bad shot on the next ball, I may be in trouble since I would have broken out his ball as well.

That is if the 11 did not go into the other corner for some reason. If it did, 11 in the corner, with follow, knock the 6/8 apart, easy shot on the next ball, then 8, then win

First thing that came to my mind was to put the CB on the rail behind the 12, shoot the 12 in the near corner with draw, go into the bottom of the 11 hard enough to open the balls and run two balls.

It looks easy enough to judge the speed so that you could shoot the 11 into the opposite side pocket while having the 8 roll up close to the near side pocket. It would seem at worse you are shooting the 11 into the diagonal upper corner pocket instead of the other side.
