At the very top level where Shane and Darren play either one of them can lose to each other on a given day and like Jay said it was Darren's day in that match. 9 ball is a game where the best player doesn't have to win every match and anyone who plays it regularly knows this. Darren won the US Open back to back, but Shane just went undefeated the last two US Opens and he was unstoppable. Darren, Mika, Earl, and many more were there. Shane is young and he hasn't traveled the world and played in as many tournaments as Darren and Mika have so his time is coming to win internationally. For my money Shane is the most impressive player i've ever seen and i've seen them all live and on Accu-stats many times. It's hard to say one player is the best over all the rest of the killer players in the world. Look at Thorsten who was just crowned the best player in the world. He was an also ran at the US Open.

Shane is a great player, but I don't think he is the best ever. Everybody is entitled to his own opinion though. He definitely has one of the best breaks ever and can run out very consistently. However, there are better shot makers and strategic players. Shane makes up for these relative deficits via power game.
