It was a shark move on his part and was probably egged on by his friend. However, after playing for more than 55 years, when ever I committed this foul I always knew I did it.
 
well its his fault for not paying Attention.. an his friend can.t say anything.. if i fouled i would hand him BIH. but if you said you dident Foul then you politely tell him an his friend ... no i did not Foul an it goes too the shooter case closed!

Haha, save it, doesn't impress me in the slightest.
I've seen about five hundred dudes on AZB talk about how at their local pool hall, bones get broken if you do such-and-such... like they're badass mother****s for even playing at such a rough'n'tumble place.

I see a fight once in a blue moon and it's nothing you couldn't shrug off the next day. Maybe I live a sheltered life or maybe the pool halls where I shoot aren't ghetto enough.

In any case, I let my friends know when they're up against one of those sleazy players who you have to watch like a hawk, because they won't call fouls on themselves. My buddy may not be able to act on that info, because of the BCAPL rule Chopstick cited. But they still need to be made aware.
 
As mentioned above, you need to get the TD involved. This is exactly the sort of problem he gets paid the big bucks to solve. Well, maybe not big bucks, but it is his responsibility to make a decision.
 
Happily get the TD for a ruling...

And then suggest a coaching foul...call me an a hole, but if he's gonna push the issue, I'll happily take ball in hand to help him quit taking advice from the peanut gallery. It comes down to etiquette. If he wants to try to enforce rules that actually play to my favor, well...bring it.
 
I was shooting some pool a few weeks ago with a friend who is a ref and refs in vegas. I had a shot and I cannot remember exactly how the balls were laying, but I think they were few inches apart on the long rail. I took the shot with tops I believe and he called a double hit on me, I still don’t think I double hit it but according to him, the way the balls followed each other at the same speed it was a double hit?

It also your opponent's job to watch and call the foul not his friend's.

I've also seen questionable hits where it was difficult if not impossible to actually declare it was a bad hit. Feelings shouldn't be trusted, especially on hits like this, ESPECIALLY from third parties.

I've had people tell me after my opponent has shot his next shot, that his previous shot was a foul. I've always simply said, I'll have to pay closer attention next time or I thought it was a good hit.

Anyway, it's water under the bridge. Know that these two guys will be gunning for you and keep your guard up BUT PLAY EXTRA HARD AGAINST THEM IN THE FUTURE. :grin-square:
 
HA! Shades of another recent thread. I haven't read the entire thread here so if these comments have been made...please just disregard.

1. Was there an area ref or TD? If so, you tell your opponent to take it up with him. I assume there was because it was a money tournament so SOMEBODY had to be in charge.

At that point it is out of your AND your opponent's hands. The AR or TD will make whatever decision they want and the AR/TD can "gather evidence" including asking for eye witnesses.

BUT on a double tap, if the witness wasn't within FIVE FEET of the shot, I would reject their opinion out of hand and deny the foul.

If in the unlikely event that there was no official of any kind...then its just up to you and your opponent to work it out. RELATIVE SIZE between the arguing parties...and/or the relative number of really badly executed tattoos would normally settle such disputes.

Not "when it happens"...only before the next shot is taken. The delay between shots was entirely the doing of the shooter and merely gave more time for the opponent and his pal to cook up the scheme.

Which Rule Set are you citing? I can't find the above in the BCA rules but certainly could have missed them.

It is TRUE that a skillful ref can determine if a foul occurred merely by the way balls move and they WILL call fouls based on that.

It is SO often true that the hand is quicker than the eye and LOTS of fouls often can't be detected except by the movement of the balls.
