I think you handled it well. Next time tell him you would be glad to give him the use of the table is he would like to buy it for $500.
 
You handled it correctly I think. If I was in your shoes however, the next time I saw him walk into the hall, I'd run over to the counter and rent all the open tables and leave em unused just to lock him out. Then he'd have a reason to badmouth me. Guys like that need their balls busted.
 
i appreciate all the support you guys have given me. he is a real piece of work. the very next day he came in and said oh i see all the 9 footers are hijacked again by these non gambling fools. but luckily the co owner who is a friend of mine heard it and she is going to handle it for me. im in the navy and cant afford to ruin my career over a self centered piece of trash. like i said thanks to all who replied.
 
i have seen some comments here that i want to comment on. ok it is a known fact that all the gamblers prefer table 1 because of the tighter pockets and newer cloth. I always shy away from table 1 because of this fact. But if i ever get that table, i jump off in a heart for the gamblers, because i know its for gamblers and only the good players take that one. i dont mind giving up my table for gamblers who ask me politely. may settle for a 8 footer if i want too. but if i dont want to, then it is still my choice, and nobody will kick me off the table but the management. i spend tons of money in this place and i am a well known regular. i wouldnt try to do this to someone else, so i expect the same.

I can see that. And at the same time the gamblers should have the smallest decency to let you know that's the reason they want to use the table. Not to just kick you off because they don't have another one to play on - and be an ass about it at the same time

I believe you asked how we would handle it,and thats all I mean to say.thats the way I handle it,I don't expect others to follow my actions in this
one thing is for sure I wouldn't be calling the guy names or thinking of a fight. Over the years I have come to expect such behavoir in pool rooms.
 
You did precisely the right thing, Rusty. Next time, however, let him know that it's his lucky day because you just happen to be in the clock cleaning business. :smile:

I would have handled it the same way Deanoc. Just being old school... All of the pool rooms that I play at that have 9-foot tables (Rusty’s in Arlington, Billiard Den -Richardson, CK Billiards-Dallas), only one or two of the 9-foot tables in each place are worth playing on. The rest have either dead or loose rails, cloth that haven’t been replaced in several years, slate doesn’t match or have a serious leveling problem. I don’t know of any pool rooms in the Dallas/Fort Worth area that has Diamond tables with pro pockets or diamond bar tables
 
Poolroom etiquette

This has happened many times to me. I don't gamble much and I go in to practice more than I go in to just play-play. So when I'm there practicing I prefer to be left alone. I'm suprised everytime I see guys bothering the guys that are practicing.

Now I've gone into my local poolhall on league nights and all the tables are taken, I have never had a problem finding friends that will let me jump in the practice rotation. I'll get a few games in while waiting on a table to open up.

Don't let the jerks get to you or bring you down to their level.

I was in a pool hall in down town Vegas .... can't remember the name but it was a big place with many tables.

I got a table to just practice on and I said I wanted a particular table because I liked the lighting and it was a 9 footer.

I was told up front that the table I wanted was used by the gamblers and if they come in, I would be asked to give up the table.

That was fine with me and I had no problem with that.

But that is different than some ass just demanding the table from me. Some people are just rude and have no consideration of others.

I've asked people if I can get the table they are playing on so I can gamble... Usually they are buy themselves banging it around or it's a couple of guys that I know.

I've only been told "no" once and it was by a douchebag that went off on me acting like "how dare you even ask me such a thing!!".

It usually goes, "Excuse me, but there is a guy that I would like to gamble with on the "tight" table you are playing on. Would you mind switching to another table? I'd be happy to pick up your table time for you or kick you a few bucks for your troubles...."

Politeness goes a long way. I also wouldn't ask someone if there wasn't another table available.
