How Would You Play This? 11/24/09

I don't know what the hell that is supposed to mean, but if you cant stun that cue ball with enough speed to just touch the side long rail and let it run under the 9 with some inside english, I'll suggest you keep slamming them around and certainly don't play any 1pkt.

edit ... ha.. I looked again, ok maybe the 6 gets a touch past the side pocket, but this is no more than a little nip stroke with some inside draw. You demonstrated the touch of a bull moose in that diagram.

It means your diagram makes no sense. Admittedly, I was being humorous but you can't get that cueball reaction with the 6ball only going a couple feet unless the foot rail is dead.

Combo 6 to 9, pocket speed....you want to play low on the cueball, bringing back up to the center of the head of the table, as close to the rail as possible.....if you miss, the 6 should be close to where the 9 was with a difficult shot at best going the length of the table.....if you make it, game over....

A good opponent will make that 9 from anywhere, because if that combo with pocket speed misses, the 9 will be hung up.

I'll put it another way - This was the Ocean State Championship. It should be assumed my opponent is anywhere between A-level to Pro speed. You have to assume that mistakes will be converted the overwhelming majority of the time. It is imperative, especially at this level, to play high percentage shots when they're available to you.

Low left.

Eric >go 3 rails
Yup . Spin the 6 with low left in the right hand pocket hard and the cue ball will go 3 rails then kill on the 4th rail and straighten out a bit and possibly end up near the 7. I think to take the offense here is better then an iffy safe.
3andstop that was a great shot you did on video but could you trust yourself in a match to do as well as you did? You did execute that perfectly.

It was an attempt at humor. That was a nice shot you posted. Your table appears to be playing a tad slower than the one I was on but you managed to also tie up the 6 (something I was hoping to do). I like this shot a lot since it's also utilizing the natural block the 8 creates by running into the 9. I prefer mine since the level of difficulty is about the same with greater reward and only slightly greater risk but that's just my opinion. It's aggressive which is something I tend to favor. I think if you tried my approach, you would be pleased with the array if outcomes.

Thanks Jude, as I get older I think my tendency is to play more conservatively. But that's what makes the game so great. Endless possibilities. The cloth on that table is 760 btw.

The rails seem slower. I was on a crown iv. The later batch of
ivs utilized faster rails (in my opinion, a flaw) as opposed to the more classic playing crown iii like the one you have.
