How Would You Play This Layout?

Here's the shot the way many pros (like Efren) would shoot it. They would play natural running English, with a touch of left and go three rails to put the cue ball back close to the same spot it's in now. Just make sure you get around the seven and roll slowly to the side rail. It's all about speed here. This is the easiest shot to shoot in this circumstance that will give you good position on the three and the best chance to run out.

Isn't the 7 blocking the path after the 2nd rail if you try to go this way?

Andrew, it looks like you're correct about the seven being in the way. If you hit it short to avoid the seven you will not have very good shot on the three because you will wind up between the first and second diamond.

I think it's really hard to tell without an overhead view but to me it looks like if you pass between the 7 and the head rail after hitting two cushions, you will end up with a fairly thin cut on the three. Maybe someone who has set the shot up on a table can comment.

I think your path is good, but I would double the corner in tighter so I hit higher up the opposite long rail then coming off the foot rail and end up shooting the three ball in the side from around the foot spot area. This way I can take the nine ball out of the picture. So in other words I'd go head rail (short rail) then long rail (tight in the corner) then diagonal to opposite long rail before hitting the foot rail (where the cue ball will die off that rail so not much chance to get behind the nine ball) and ending up near the foot spot. Then play the three in the side follow to head rail and back out for the four in the corner. My shot doesn't look as good when I looked at the second picture in the original post as there is not as much angle as I had thought, still doable, but tougher.
Hope I explained this well enough, as I don't know how to draw lines on the table diagram, yet.

Yes, thanks for the thread as I enjoy these also.

If this is what your saying. Yes, it could work.
