You have Ball-In-Hand and it's 9-ball. How do you get out? Is there anything you might consider that could make your task a little easier?

I would combo the 6 to the 8 softly so I have a shot on the same corner for the 6 roll up a ways for the 7 to get shape on the 9.

easy :D
 
I see Steev beat me by minutes with the same solution. C'mon Jude give us something a little more challenging. :p

It'll be plenty challenging after I rattle that 6-8.
 
I'd dog the 6 while trying to shoot it in the top corner while trying to go up table leaving a nice angle on the 7. Then I'd watch my opponent run out.
 
I would shoot the 6, making sure to keep at least a little angle on the 7, then at least some angle on the 8. I would feel that if I can't run out those balls, then I don't deserve the game. Doesn't look that difficult.

There are at least a few things that can go wrong with the combo (but, of course, it doesn't look that hard either).

With the 8 froze to the rail and the 6 off the rail that would be hard to mess up

If they were fozen in reverse....then you have issues...

Along the same lines, make the 6 with good angle on the 7, come back down with a nice angle on the 8, misplay the leave and somehow miraculously roll the cue into the side pocket at about a 5 degree angle, like it was sucked into a black hole, leaving ball in hand on the 9....that, or just shoot the 6-8 and run out....
 
Plenty of good approaches available here. Can't argue with those that want to shoot the 6 - 8 combo, although I try to avoid combos where the ball I need to pocket is frozen to a rail.

Another reasonable approach to making life simple is to shoot the six and draw softly into the eight to leave the eight either in or right next to the corner pocket. Now, there's no work to do on the seven and the out should be simple.

That is another great option. If I am having a really good night I'd probably play everything perfect getting a good shot on the nine. Then I would go brain dead making the nine and sending the cue ball 3 or 4 rails and scratch in one of the corner pockets.
 
I'd end up getting straight in on the 7 and be forced to play the small side of the 8. "Don't want to come up short on that 8." So I'd probably overstroke it and scratch in the corner!!

I would not have thought to shoot the combo. I played with Steev at the DCC. He's a very good player. Good call Steev.
 
 
If you're afraid to play this simple 6 to the 8 combo then you should play safe and consider another hobby.

Not afraid of it...I just respect it. You try that shot 50 times and you'll be surprised how often you a) Miss it b) End up straight or "funny" on 6

I would suggest very few...I'll repeat very very very few professionals would shoot the combo with ball in hand.
