Phew. It's late here and I really-really need to tell someone so here goes ^^

After a year and a half of buying my own cue and starting to practice hard I finally beat the ghost on 9-ball (on a 9-footer ofc) 9-8.

...my work here is done. Now I will take on knitting :p

Hey congrats :D ...you got any new goals? 10b ghost? Maybe a five or six pack?

Well I made two 3-packs on this particular set... (with BIH after the break. 9 on the spot and breaking from the box) I have made 3-packs with easier break formats without BIH on regular match-ups but I think that a six pack with the ghost sounds good.

A 75+ break on 14.1 sounds even more tempting now.

Well...finishing in the money at tournaments is a big goal as well. I should stop choking in important matches. That's a whole other story.

What's your current straight pool high run? Just curious because I can beat the 9 ball ghost, have beaten it 9-2 and 9-1 but my 14.1 high run is comparitively low. I think I really need to work on my patterns to get better shots.

Also, congratulations on beating the ghost. It is a milestone that shows you have achieved another level.

I think 35ish. But I practiced it for like a week and then gave up as I had to practice 9-ball for upcoming tournaments. Haven't played it for months. Watching good players play 14.1 helps a lot on pattern play. Also if a better player can do very high runs, practice 14.1 together. It is the most challenging game in pool from my point of view and it teaches you a lot of stuff.

Thanks for the response. My high is just under 50. I've run 40's a bunch but I think my patterns let me down. I get to the point of forcing a hard shot. Maybe I need to slow down a little. I'm about to crack open Capelle's straight pool book so we'll see how that goes.

Congratulations! Beating the ghost 9-8 is great shooting.
Now you can try to get to my level.
I give the ghost the 8 and the break and bust him every session.

Congrats! keep up the good work.

8 ball bar box is king in my area and very seldom get to play with someone 9 hall on a 9 foot. ( the two 9 foot tables in the area are horrible). So to play more 9 ball can someone explain the ghost to me. Thanks.

Congrats on completing your goal.

That's impressive if you've only been playing for 18 months.

What's an ofc? What size pockets and what cloth?

ofc=of course :D

Simonis 760 and the pockets are like 4.5 or 4.6 inches I don't know. (they can juuuuust accept 2 balls)

I don't understand how this is played. Can you explain a little more?

Thanks for your replies guys. Gotta keep working hard now!

The challenge now is to do it on tables with tight pockets, which is pretty hard to do. After an extended period rattling balls on triple shimmed 4"ers, I've recently switched back to a table with 4.5" pockets and standard (slow) cloth - first visit beat the ghost 9-0 and then 13-2. Tight tables makes a huge difference.

Very nice shooting, Jimmy!

Now you get to learn how to do what you already know how to do, in front of other people. (You'll get used to that too, just by doing it often).
