Hurricane Sandy won't hold us northeast US pool players down!

It sounded like the house was getting ripped from the ground. We live at the edge of a wooded area-- I heard a tree snap in half behind my house, but it fell to the side, not at us (whew).

I don't even think we lost a shingle. So, we got blessed.

Good to hear! Do you have power?

BTW, you ever see Daz playing around town? If so, whatcha spot him killer? ;)

What @ the Amsterdam Billiards contingency in Manhattan? Anyone hear from them? You know, Tony Robles and all them hot sharp shooting ladies?

I know Spiderweb.com and Daz live in Allentown, PA. My news said they peaked at 70 mph. Hopefully they didn't sustain much damage. Obviously the NE costline took the worst of it. Not sure which AZBers live there and may be the ones we should be most concerned about.

He survived a Lee Brett left hook so I'm sure he will be okay.

I have friends who live in Long Beach, NY...hope they got the hell out!
Anybody have word on the area?

I heard something slam to the ground last night. It turned out to be my fence...I am thankful it wasn't my roof.

Power just came on! South East Pa. got hit hard.....a lot of downed trees. Plenty of wood for you cue makers:cool:

To all of you in that Nor'easter area.

I've already said prayers for all in need & will continue to do so.

Those of us in the Gulf know the 'Hell' involved.

What ever your situation is, do not get discouraged. I know words do not do much to console, but you can overcome.

My condolenses for your losses, & the trials & tribulations ahead of you.

All my prayers & Best Wishes for the tough times ahead.

Best Regards,

Luckily, my area was pretty much unscathed. I didn't even lose power. When I took a ride today to see if there was any damage, I saw a few traffic lights that were out. I assume there were some residential outages, but didn't see any downed trees or other significant damage.

Those who weren't so lucky are in my thoughts. I can't believe some of the footage I'm seeing from NJ.

Sean texted me a little while ago to say that his power had just gone out. He's a boy scout type so I'm sure he's got all provisions and contingencies sorted out so he and his lady will be reasonably comfortable.

I'm not sure if he has posting capability with a smart phone so if I don't hear anything before too long I'll check back in for an update with him.

I'm about 60 miles from Sean and things are actually calming down a little though the doom and gloom they are reporting is unnerving, to say the least.

High tides are just about in on many areas along the CT shore and I know there will be staggering property losses there and many other places, as well.

Danny, your cousin sure is one lucky lady not to have had her car crushed by that tree; or worse. Thanks for those pics of your area in Maryland.

I'm amazed that my power has stayed on - I just went outside for the first time since before noon and things here don't look too bad but there were lots of sirens wailing from various directions.

I expect the news with the light of day tomorrow morning isn't gonna be pretty. :(

continue to be safe fellow azers.

best,
brian kc

Hi folks:

Just wanted to let everyone know that although my area got hit *HARD* (all but 600 people in Putnam County are without power), Lisa and I are ok. Only a little damage to the house -- some siding ripped off, but outside of our townhouse complex, it's incredible. Lisa and I worked the entire day yesterday, and most of this morning, in fact, chainsawing and removing downed trees that were blocking the roads into our townhouse complex.

We were finally able to leave and head into town for the first time this morning. (In fact, I'm onsite typing this at one of my customer sites that is on generator and has triple-redundant Internet.)

There are downed telephone poles and wires all over the place. Most of the telephone poles were literally snapped in half -- like toothpicks -- with the upper half of the telephone pole dangling over the street, hanging by its own wires like a crucifix floating in mid-air. Because of this, whereas normally I'd lose electricity and Internet, I lost *all* services (including my normally ol' reliable analog copper phone lines) this time around. Many cell towers were knocked out, and thus cell (mobile) service is very spotty. Where I'm at, I sometimes I can't make outbound calls, and TXT messages take a couple tries and retries before they finally go through. I had my hands full wielding a chainsaw, so I didn't have time to stand around and "admire" the damage nor take pictures. Job number one was getting the roads open. However, I'll have to take a pic or two to show you folks just what happened here -- you have to see this to believe it. Unreal.

Forget Internet; I don't expect to have my power restored for quite a while. Our out-of-the-way townhouse complex, on back roads, isn't on NYSEG's (NY State Electric & Gas's) priority list, as they have bigger fish to fry at the moment.

I'll check in from time to time (perhaps once or twice a day).

Humbly offering thanks for the well-wishes and concern,
-Sean

I am so glad to hear that so many of the AZB family members, friends, relatives are doing OK. And made it thru the storm OK. I can relate to what you all are going thru for sure. Things can be replaced most of the time, but life cannot be replaced. I hope and pray that you all have a speedy recovery from this storm. And that things will go, and be better than before the storm, if that is possible. Their are so many of you out there that need help and our prayers. May God bless each and everyone of you.
Best Regards,
Lock N Load.

it ok here,

Hey all, its ok here. I lost power shortly after I posted last night. Not a whole lotta rain,..... but that wind :eek:

Not a lot of damage here,... power came on noontime today ,so it was out maybe 12-14 hrs. I was expecting the worst, like that ICE STORM we had. A few T-poles and some downed trees/branches most of it is clear. I can't get ahold of my sister, she's in suburban Phila. I watched the weather tracker and the eye of Sandy passed about 35 mi. south of her near Wilmington, De. Does anyone know if they have power down that way back yet??

Keep those in NYC & Jersey shore in your prayers !! they got whacked good! Not too many places to hide from 13 feet of storm surge in coastal NJ. :(

Religious fanatics actually accomplished something useful

Hi folks!

Checking in again, from my customer site.

Just wanted to let you know that -- miraculously -- my electric power and analog copper phone line was restored this morning. YAY!!

And you know what's the funny thing? Although part of the reason was because of the dangerous situation with that telephone pole snapped in half outside our townhouse complex -- the top-half of the telephone pole hanging by its wires over the road -- it's the other part of the reason that really makes one shake his/her head. ** GET THIS ** The other part of the reason is that that top-half of the telephone pole, hanging by its wires, looked like a giant crucifix hovering over the road, and some religious fanatics were absolutely flipping out because of it, on Halloween Day (yesterday, 31 October)! Un-freaking-believeable. But hey, at least we got our priorities straight in life... <long pause>... of having the electric turned back on! (And you thought I was going somewhere else with that pause. ;) )

However, we're still without Internet, and I heard that Comcast's local POP (local CO) was severely damaged and flooded. It might be a while still, before that's fixed.

But Lisa and I are very thankful to have phone and electric back on so soon, even if the reason why is so hilarious. Yep, we live in one crazy country.

Will check in again soon, hopefully with news of Internet restoration, but we'll see...
-Sean

I'd like to see the the people involved in this thread to check in.
Sean and Brian seemed to have made it through okay.

Our area caught the fringe of Sandy...but we still had over 30 thousand
homes without power, and one fatality...a poor woman was hit by a flying
sign.....NYC had a lot more troubles and deaths.

For those who live far enough away that the news becomes like a report
from a foreign area....here's some pics from a few days ago.... lots of them.

Sorry to hear about the damage, but glad to hear you are OK.

After what I went though with the hurricane in August 2011, I feel for you and everyone involved.

I am glad you and yours are safe. This storm has affected so many people. I hope you-all are back to normal soon! :)

The damage is just phenominal all up and down the coast! Yesterday I had a chance to talk to my friend Kaznj, who lives just a 1/2 hour south of NYC, in NJ. Their power was still off, and gas was very difficult to get...not because of shortages, but because of no power. He said he waited 2 hrs to get gas. He had called me from Sandcastle Billiards. Apparently Eddie survived the storm fine (thank goodness), and Pat Fleming was just back from the Open, and was in the process of setting up things for his internet tv show, which broadcasts from Ed's room. Sandcastle is alive and well...so if the room(s) in your area (NYC/NJ) are out of commission, you can come play there...provided you can get there. It's a great poolroom, and Eddie sure knows how to treat his customers!
