Hurricane Sandy won't hold us northeast US pool players down!

an fyi on Sean's status

Sean texted me a little while ago to say that his power had just gone out. He's a boy scout type so I'm sure he's got all provisions and contingencies sorted out so he and his lady will be reasonably comfortable.

I'm not sure if he has posting capability with a smart phone so if I don't hear anything before too long I'll check back in for an update with him.

I'm about 60 miles from Sean and things are actually calming down a little though the doom and gloom they are reporting is unnerving, to say the least.

High tides are just about in on many areas along the CT shore and I know there will be staggering property losses there and many other places, as well.

Danny, your cousin sure is one lucky lady not to have had her car crushed by that tree; or worse. Thanks for those pics of your area in Maryland.

I'm amazed that my power has stayed on - I just went outside for the first time since before noon and things here don't look too bad but there were lots of sirens wailing from various directions.

I expect the news with the light of day tomorrow morning isn't gonna be pretty. :(

continue to be safe fellow azers.

best,
brian kc

You be safe, too, Brian.

It appears that the Frankenstorm is going to track west, so we aren't likely to get much of it up here. Fortunate for us...

Everyone be safe.

It's done

Waltham (MA) is safe now, the wind slowed down an there is no water falling from the skies anymore. If I am writing here means I have time so nothing major happened around my house, only inside (wife)...:bash::outtahere:
I know that some of you out there still struggling because Sandy's wide skirt. My thoughts go with you and if you need help I can provide a big heart to warm you up.

Power out for hours. Lines are down. Operating table on LEDS. 12 rack of 9 ball but fading fast. Getting ready to batten down the hatches.. See you all in the am. Be safe hit em straight and stay dry...move the cues to higher ground. P.S , I found out I shoot better in the dark... How about that!

I wish everyone in the way of the storm is safe! May God bless all of you in the North East corner of the USA.
Many Regards,
Lock N Load.

Sean , you'll like this. We tend to lose power where I'm at. I picked up a couple of battery operated LED lights and mounted them above the pool table just in case......I'm ready.

Storms a Brewing - Opponent's Pocket surrounded with threats...

Remember, just like one-pocket, there is a way out of any well-laid trap. If needed, play the Nick Varner wedge for safety and wait out the game as long as needed. Take a scratch or two. And, keep your chalk dry.

Best wishes for safety to all who may be impacted...

Peace.

JAM reporting in for duty. :grin-square:

We have power in D.C., but there's many in the region that don't. Lots of trees are down. The heavy winds have subsided, but it's still raining hard.

News said that 80 percent of Long Island is without power. Wow! 50 homes burned down in Queens. It looks like New York and north of there got the worst of Sandy.

It is predicted that by Thursday, we will know how bad the flooding will be due to the rivers overflowing.

Meanwhile, I have an appointment to go to the dentist today. I tried to cancel yesterday, but wouldn't you know it, he's got a generator? Three more hours until I get a tooth pulled. Ouch!

Hope everyone is safe and out of harm's way.

Good to hear from you JAM and glad you are safe. Glad you checked in... :)

Best wishes with your tooth and make sure the dentist prescribes plenty of pain meds...

Stay safe and best wishes to all hit harder and without power, etc.

Your dentist has a generator, that's a bit "too prepared" for business.

Hope the weather improves soon, and good luck at the dentist.

Thanks, Razor. You know, it's funny about those meds. When I was young and dumb, I enjoyed altering my state of consciousness at will, but when you get old and have to take them for pain, they kind of lose their attractiveness. Truth be told, I can't stand the side effects.

Most times, Advil works okay for me, but believe me, if I'm in pain, I will have no problem wolfing down one of those suckers. I got a script of Vicodins, antibiotics, and Ibuprofen 800 mgs. I'm hoping the Ibuprofen will take care of me, but it's nice to have the Vicodins just in case.

My daughter had to drive home from her nursing graveyard shift at midnight from Virginia to where we live, and she said there were downed electrical wires and trees everywhere. She had to get creative on how to get here because of the road closings.

My poor Mickey dog can't go outside and play because of the rain. This morning, he goes to the door, giving me the signal that he has to relieve himself. I open it to let him outside. He took one took and the heavy rains, looked back up at me, like, "What, are you kidding me?" He didn't want to go out, but he eventually had to take care of business, if you know what I mean.

Thanks, C.J. I agree about the dentist. Sheesh! Last time I was there, he had a basket of Hershey Kisses for his clients as they were on their way out. Gee, just what I need: sugar for my teeth. Something is wrong with that picture.

Glad all is well for you and Keith, JAM. I have a friend in DC, he was giving Facebook updates all night, so I had good thoughts for you folks.

Funny (sad, actually) story from him. He had a 30 pound racoon huddled up against his patio door, trying to find some shelter last night. My friend felt really badly for him, but there wasn't anything he could do about it. Had a pic of the poor soggy critter, too.

I live out in rural America, never occurred to me that you folks would have racoons, heh heh.

We have racoons living in our back yard. I live right next to a National Park, so we have deer, fox, falcons, owls, racoons, possum, and rabbit sightings on a regular basis.

Here's a couple deer in my front yard. The deer walk up the street in our neighborhood like they own the joint!

Well, I hoped everybody made it through with not too much damage.
For me, it turned out we were on the fringe...lotta wind, a little rain.
Would like to know how y'all are.

Jam remember dentists that have drills running on generators will operate at a slower RPM so there should be louder Grinding cause your drilling tool will be turning slower and you'll have to pay for a gasoline surcharge for your teeth, kinda like the Garbage people do when diesel goes UP.:banghead:

I know Spiderweb.com and Daz live in Allentown, PA. My news said they peaked at 70 mph. Hopefully they didn't sustain much damage. Obviously the NE costline took the worst of it. Not sure which AZBers live there and may be the ones we should be most concerned about.

Soooo....the dentists says...
"That's the biggest cavity I ever saw...the biggest cavity I ever saw."
JAM says "Why did you say it twice?"
The dentist says "That wasn't me, that was the echo."

I'm pullin' for ya, JAM....well, actually I'm not, the dentist is...

It sounded like the house was getting ripped from the ground. We live at the edge of a wooded area-- I heard a tree snap in half behind my house, but it fell to the side, not at us (whew).

I don't even think we lost a shingle. So, we got blessed.
