Hustlers Week 2: Episodes 3 & 4 Thread

Boy, Borana Andoni is good looking. Hope she appears in more episodes...

The first time i saw her i was like "Why isn't everyone else in the world staring at her like i am?" I thought i was the only one "getting it". Anyway i escaped stalking charges that night by a hair.

Pure entertainment. "Reality" TV was never meant to be real. It's called a willing suspension of disbelief...

Agreed, the girl is a 12. She seems soft spoken and pleasant. She could model.

Bingo. My point exactly.
Get ready for the hate mail!

I sat and watched several matches being played during the filming. All that I saw were legit. Each of them were trying to win, the winner got money and the loser got nothing. As far as I could tell, there was no business and each were trying to win. After the match was over, they set up certain shots for them to shoot again for editing purposes.

The show editors and producers clearly know nothing about pool and it's obvious when you watch. They cut to the wrong shots the wrong balls... I think that might be your issue.

Question for the people associated with the show? Do you of you think the producers of the show would consider posting the unedited matches online? It is content and can drive traffic to the TruTV website. Just a thought...

Anyone else agree that that combo was indeed impressive, and certainly indicated that she had been practicing?

Possibly game 2.

Had to laugh after watching it after the comment by Emily.

They should have you on the show man. WTF are they thinking?

While it sounds like a good idea for avid pool fans like us, I don't think Real Housewives or any other reality show releases outtakes or deleted scenes for the sole purpose of keeping the illusion that the show is reality. If RH released videos of them saying the lines wrong or practicing it over and over until they get it right, then it would kind of just be like... Wth.

This is the production aspect that some here just can't understand. Pick up shots, B roll footage, etc. Major Hollywood movie will cut away from an actor and when they cut back his collar is missing a button. Why? Because that shot might have been gotten months after the original scene was filmed.

We already have had you, Mikey frost, and another that were there on set and saw the matches go down and swear they were legit, but because it was edited for time, then it has to be fake? Some here actually believe that, but what do they think when watching jasmine play Allison on ESPN, and before the commercial break it's 1-1 on the first set but after the commercial a series of jump cuts explain how the score is now 3-3?

Is it still real? Of course. It's all about editing and presentation.

When they are playing do they just play? Does anyone offer advice what they should do or say or do anything over?

They just play. It's certainly a lighter environment than someone betting their own money. They talk smack and whatnot but there are no do overs. They really keep the money if they win so they're all actually trying to win. They will talk to one another so I guess they could be getting advice when they're not shooting, but there are no coaches unless that was part of the agreed game.

I wasn't there for all of the matching up but the ones I saw, they were trying to beat each other to get money.

The guy saying it's like WWF wresting… I can see why he would think that but it's not. It's not as serious as a TAR match but nobody is falling down either.

I've seen a couple-they just play. Of course i am sure they were initially told that bantering would raise the interest level. They try to win-If they win, they get paid and TruTv foots the bill for the loser.

And your experience on set, or in production is.....?

Are you disputing the three who have posts on this thread that were there?

One you know is real so you don't question the other you know is a reality show so your inclined to question it ,,
Personaly I don't care ,,,but I wouldn't stake my life on any of it being real I don't care if the pope came on here and said so , i would still have my doubts

I know this makes too much sense but….if the show bothers you so much, why watch it?

Yes, I play pool, I see the obvious errors. It's a show. Don't like it? Turn it off.

Personally, I enjoy it. It's something to watch on TV that's loosely based on my favorite hobby. I don't nit pick it. It is what it is….

Ok, I'll get off my soapbox.

I think if Kelly Fisher played Shane some 10 ball she could get the 8 and the 9 ball, maybe even the 7, 8 and 9. The gap is huge. Sure they can win sets that are short races in a tournament. Race to 21 or higher they got no real shot. Never heard of a lady running out a set going to 7 or 9.

100% agree

Bergman gave Jeanette Lee the 6 ball. Jeanette is probably the most experienced female gambler in the country (I'm sure someone will mention someone else but she is right up there). And Bergman can pocket balls with the best of them but his break is no where near that of SVB. Obviously Kelly plays better than Jeanette but the comparison of the overall game is similar.

Emily might be a great person - I don't know her from Adam (or in this case Eve). And I would say that she is only speaking of herself the way she does cause of the show, but previously on here and on Facebook she views herself as a top pro, so be it. There is no tour, there is no WPBA so she can call herself whatever she wants. If she does really gamble, all I can think is that she must get out of line quite often. All the players in NYC should be hoping she makes a mint off of this show.

As to the show, it is bout what I expected. The producers obviously came up with 'the list' to have some drama to it all. Just like Storage Wars posts who profits the most, the shipping show has the same, fishing shows, gold in the ocean, pawn stars and pickers even keep track somewhat, etc. etc. They all keep some count. I just think the producers should have known that the core watchers - pool players - would question it so maybe they should have said Top 5 players at Steinways. Hell they show Gary go to another room and play a close match with Justin so shouldn't Justin be Top 5 if Gary was #1 at one time. But for the show to be successful, it has to draw in viewers outside of pool.

Anyways, can't wait to see more of Mikey. So far they haven't really shown his quick wit and his line of 'he needs one, and he needs every one' was cut short and would have made more sense and humor if the entire line was broadcast. Maybe when they show him on the table, they will let him have more dialogue. I would much rather listen to that then Ross and Amy during a birthday dinner.

So far DeChaine has come off the best on camera and seems very comfortable with it.

And like I said on Facebook, bring back AC in Season 2.

I would like to use the show "Storage Wars" as an example.

The producers of this show have created a product that has brought them BIG success while creating HUGE exposure and interest in that industry.

The show is, at least in part, staged BS.

They've had some of their well known bidders bring witch doctors, diviners, fortune tellers, drones fitted with cameras for a better look, etc, etc., all supposedly done to give themselves an edge for how much they should bid.

The characters themselves are some real characters like Dave Hester, Y'UUUUUP, and the tension between him and Darryl.

There's Brandi and Jarrod who became so popular they were given their own 'reality' show.

And how about Barry, what a strange dude they had him playing; even if some of it was based on who he really is, there's no way he would be doing much of the stuff we saw on TV, dressing like he did and driving all the bizarre vehicles we got to see him drive just to go bid on storage containers. It's made up for TV..

But it was all brilliant because viewers ate it up in a big way.

And the hook they have when one of them wins a locker and as they are rummaging through it, invariably they will say something like: "That's what I'm talking about!" as if they just found a ship's sunken treasure; then abruptly they cut to commercial. Perfect!

When they found odd and interesting items that needed professional valuation done, wasn't it amazing how they all had so many friends that were experts in clown art, vintage airplane parts, Pink Floyd posters, or whatever it was that came up?

This is a show that is largely staged, not terribly different than the aforementioned pro wrestling that has made the network, the show, and it's stars, a whole lot of money and they're still going.

It has also caused a swell in that industry because since this show has been on, people all over the country have decided that they, too, can be storage buying kings and queens.

Like the show or not, Storage Wars has put that industry on the map.

We should be hoping for even a fraction of that same success to be achieved with The Hustlers, imo.

best,
brian kc <----- doesn't mind things being bent a little if the result is fewer pool rooms closing their doors.

Man I wish going though the stuff in my storage unit would produce a "that's what I'm talking about!" moment.
