I dropped of my cog to have Kenny koo put on a elephant wrap

How can you tell the difference between cow leather with an elephant ear pattern vs. real elephant ear ?

I like my cow leather elephant ear pattern wrap. Feels great, $100 installed. I don't want real elephant ear even if it was the same price.

I tried a cue with it, felt a bit hard and grainy to me. I prefer lizard, leather or irish linen to the elephant myself. One of the best feeling cues I played with was a lizard wrap Schick.

That goes for anything people buy fancy houses cars jewelry clothes even where and what you eat.,. I find this insufficient by saying "it's ok I can afford it" because that's with anything in life

Except, when I buy a fancy car, it actually has value, bigger engine, many more options, nicer stereo, etc. etc., and not one majestic creature died when I bought it ;)

And I would NOT walk around telling folks the car I drive cause its in the parking lot and nobody can see me pull in. Unlike a cue, everyone has to tell me the white is ivory or the wrap is elephant ear.... as if my opinion should change because they spent a lot of money on features that most folks could not tell the difference looking at it...just seems odd to me, that's all.

Bev you know what you like. Much respect.

Just got my 1st elephant ear wrap pool cue last month. In fact, it's actually my first leather pool cue wrap and so I expected it would be great since elephant ear seems to be so popular with so many pool players nowadays.

No matter how hard I try, and I really do treasure my new pool cue, albeit previously owned but nonetheless still pristine condition, the elephant ear wrap isn't my cup of tea.......it feels like the grips on my golf clubs. Is there anything that can be done to soften the pebble/texture finish on elephant ear pool cue wraps? There's a couple of Hercek cues I am seriously interested in but both have leather wraps which diminishes their appeal for me. I can't see myself spending $5-6k for one of Joel's cues only to have to send it back to him to ask for some Cortland Linen to be installed.

I will say that Ed Prewitt did a fantastic job when he made the cue and installed the elephant ear wrap on this cue which looks and even feels like it's seamless, which of course it isn't. Like I said, aside from being a incredible wrap installation, it's just not my cup of tea. I'm interesting in knowing if there's any treatment I can give the elephant ear wrap to soften up the feel which I describe to being akin to rubbery, ex. golf pride grips. Maybe if I can soften the feel or texture, I'll like this wrap more.......it looks great on the cue but not so much so in my grip hand.

Bev you know what you like and if that's what you want on your cues and you play with them I respect that a ton. Take off that elephant and put Cortland on if you like it more, can get it, and don't plan to resell. I have one more idea to get that cortland you want, pm to discuss. THx Tom

how many cues did you have done for 475 .seems a little high to me.i paid 250 from paul at pfd custom cues.for the same work elephant ear wrap

1 cue....that is what kenny charges.....HE IS THE MAN.....and can get it for sure...

My linen wrap was too slick. Cue maker suggested leather. Had many different options. I picked the one that felt best to me. Combination of softness and texture to my liking. It was cow leather embossed with an elephant ear pattern.

I'm not a tree hugger or animal rights fanatic, but I don't want real elephant ear just like I don't want real ivory. Cow leather is a byproduct from the beef food industry.

That looks really cool, texture kinda reminds me of Ray Skin... neat stuff.

Im currently using lizard embossed black leather which I liked the look of better then lizard itself...

yeah I'm currently using actual lizard...

Embossed lizard can look a little better, but I like the feel of actual lizard better.

I think the next cue I make for myself will have ostrich.

I Am Tempted But......

Tom,

I thought about having Cortland Linen installed.......I have to send my cue to Ed in a couple of months so he can match the collars on two shafts I'm having made. However, when I change the wrap, the cue is no longer original and as long as I keep the cue in original, good condition, I can trade the cue back with Cornerstone Cues and get 100% value for what I paid. There's no time limit on this with Bill Grassley so I can do that now, next year, or five years from today.

I'm not willing to forfeit that option because Bill keeps getting amazing cues and all I have to do is pay the difference in price between my EP cue and any cue that Bill has that I'd want.....the only condition is it's has to be a trade up, not even or down. Well, rest assured if I were inclined to sell my cue, it would be for a bigger one so Cornerstone Cues' Policy is very appealing since I can never lose money and is why I won't change the elephant ear wrap. Besides, I might be able to sell or trade it on my own so Bill's policy is like a golden parachute for me.....can't lose......I either keep and enjoy the cue or I can get another one, like a nice Hercek or any other cue Bill has that catches my attention now or for that matter, any time in the future as well.

Sean, thanks for the mention about the wrap. When I send the cue back to Ed for the new shafts he's started, I will make it a point to ask him to look into doing that. The new shafts are going to be a little smaller and as such, will lower the cue's weight into the same weight range with my other ivory joint cues. I didn't know if anything could be done with the elephant ear wrap and I'll ask Ed to look into that. Like I wrote, I've looked at the wrap installation really closely and the seam is very hard to find and you can't even detect it with the feel of your fingers. It 's undoubtedly a top notch wrap installation and in the looks department, it's a hands down winner but the feel is something I'm still struggling with.

Thanks for that suggestion Sean.

Have you ever heard about being excited about something. Having 3 kids under 7 it's rare for me to spoil myself. 85% of the post a here are crap and add no value. Don't be grumpy. With 3 pages in too? Lol shit. This is reason to just sell here and have no input. I play pool for $ in anyone is in the Bay Area

He was talking about the other guy bro, not you. All that matters is that you are happy with what you are getting. Price is not an obstacle or an issue when it comes to comfort and happiness. When I ordered my wrap to put on my cue I was like Ralphy on the Christmas Story....my wife was ready to kill me with all of the texts and phone calls I made to her asking if my package had come in with my wrap. Enjoy your wrap and don't worry about what other people say about where it come from....pigs, cows, trees, lizards, sharks and even elephants die in the name of pool. All of them die for food consumption and their skin is used for cues. Nothing is wasted

Thanks for the reply. We settled it through a pm and a I removed the quote. I'll post pics when it's ready.

I don't know???

You have not lived forever.

Do we need to get into a debate over existential reality and what the human consciousness is???

Perhaps he HAS lived forever and has KNOWN the frequency of energy that is Kenny Koo since time immemorial???

Who are we to say???

Jaden

I guarantee, this is a debate you don't want to get into with BB.

he runs mighty deep into human consciousness - bordering on human unconciousness.
