I guess Earl got his wish!

Both sides. Hasn't been talked about much but it's no secret.

Ain't that the truth. Amazing how Americans like to crush their own, but over on the othre side of the pond, everyone stays mum. What's up with that?!

Earl made positional mistakes in previous match, but SVB saved him, hope he plays good today? they probably can afford one or two with Clean Ball man, but not when it is DAZ turn!

They both made errors. Shane with position and Earl with safeties . They compliment each other's game. If one comes up short there other has the firepower to overcome it

Agree 100% Can Earl and Shane dig down deep and pull one up from the bottom? Or will it be a train wreck where Earl catches his multi-personality inferiority complex and Shane just shakes his head?

Let's be honest, we all want to see Earl melt down a little but still pull off the win.

Wedge,
Don't worry about the fact the Earl might be an embarrassment to the USA. The world doesn't hold Earl against us. They too know he's capable of going either way and that it's not representative of the USA.

Earl represents Earl..

Should be a good match, with some fireworks thrown in. IMO Earl and Shane are the underdogs here. Darren and Karl are solid front to back, and USA has shown some chinks in their armor already.

Ah, the sweet taste of victory is only an hour and a half away, folks!

To those who do not understand earl would think he lacks what a sportsman should have . But he is a genius and if we take out all the bad parts of the genius we do not have the genius because it's all part of what makes them special !

Great Match

Wish Team USA would have won but it was an exiting match and all players involved acted like true professionals!

Well, although I want team Shane and Earl to win the WCOP I guess Earl will have to prove on the table the shit he talked about beating the England A Team (We'll slay England and win World Cup). Time to put up or shut up tomorrow Earl!

Guess what USA came back from 7-2 down, tied it at 7-7. We broke dry never shot again a heart breaking loss and Earl acted just fine.

Earl and Shane both showed heart, I agree.

Must have been a BIG disappointment to all the Earl haters that there was no drama. :D

Team USA fought gamely, and nearly completed what would have been a fabulous comeback.

Yes it was a great comeback that fell short. The dry break followed by a very iffy shot to luck into a runnable table by the Brits.

Early in the match Earl had a bit of a meltdown which seamed to get to Shane a bit, they both made mistakes including a missed 2 by Shane.Earl played a few wild shots like running into the next ball and such that also seamed to erode Shane's focus.Team U.S.A did rebound and even got the fist-bump back up and running after they won 5 straight and ran a few racks.

It will be interesting to see if Shane and Earl play together again.IMO no1 can run racks like this pair can when Earl is right in the head.

Earl came with a lot of strong shots in the comeback.

One I remember...dead straight to the corner down at the head of table short cushion. Jacked up a bit and pounded it, and spun down table off the long rail for great position for Shane. A real missable shot. Mighty fine shot.

That was an "old school" shot! I don't think most of the younger pros could hit a ball any better than Earl hit that shot. He JAMMED that ball in the pocket and controlled the cue ball like it was on a string.

Actually, though the shot remains tough to execute, it used to be much tougher on the slow nappy cloth. To stun it forward powerfully on the old equipment sometimes required a huge amount of speed, so the guys who grew up on the slow equipment are well familiar with it.

What you say is right, though. The shot is a bit old school because it came up more often back in the day. Still, I do not agree that this generation of players is any less capable of executing it, they just don't need to pound it this hard very often.

I recall the shot to which you refer, and Earl really hit it well.

Brits got the rolls at the right time. Appleton dogged the 3 so bad he 3 railed it to where Shane could only go for 5 rail position thru 5 balls of traffic ( I would have ducked on that 3). But the roll that won the set was after the dry break at 7-7 when Appleton missed position on the 2. He tried to show Boyes the path to miss the 8 ball and get on the 3, but Boyes jumped up on the 2 , dogged the CB , and got very lucky to crash into the 5 on the wrong side of the table and get a good shot at the 3. That was the 'shot' that won the set. Too bad.
The 2 worst rules in pool have now got a 3rd: the break rule in this tourney is horridness Ranks right up there with the first 2: BIH ANYWHERE on the table, and cleaning the CB during a game. Pretty soon , the rules will be changed soo much that we will be playing ping-pong!

I feel a little bit sorry for Earl. He showed, that he's still a great shotmaker.
And he came up with nice shots.

But he also made a few position mistakes and safety errors. As Shane did, but Earl shouldn't yell at him as he missed the 2... or scratched on the kick shots.

Well, it's been a real nice match though.
Hope we'll see more good pool in the semis and the final!
