I had a private lesson with Nick Varner

It didn't start that way-but due to the generosity of Nick and his road partner Mark Cantrill-that's what it turned into.

Due to some complications, the scheduled group was not in attendence-except me. Most could attend tomorrow night. I couldn't.

Short version: It was great.

Nick helped me primarily with 1P. We 'played' an instrucional rack. I would suggest a shot. Nick would suggest a shot. I shot Nick's shot, and will try to remember it if I see it again. Although, I couldn't come up with my own shots-I did shoot his shots fairly much as designed. I thought I would embarrass my self badly and often. I did OK.

Nick also worked on banks with me. I will only say-Nick can bank. I like his approach.

Nick worked on 14.1 break shots with me. Good stuff.

Our lesson went long and Nick didn't look at his watch once.

His instruction was an effective mix of his knowledge and his ability to measure my ability to stay up. I lag.

Nick is a true gentleman. He's very personable. He made me feel very comfortable and relaxed. Relaxed enough to better absorb what was being offered. You know that this is NICK VARNER, but he has put you at ease. That's effective instruction. And pretty casual.

Long version:

It was great.

Thanks, Nick. and Mark.

Take care

ps: this was 2 hours ago, and I'm still stoked.:yeah:

Would you care to elaborate any more on the banking info? I understand if not, PM me if you'd like :)

Varner

I have always been told Nick was one of the good guys and easy to get comfortable around, sounds like it is true. I have a friend that used to play him banks on occasion and he always had nothing but nice things to say about him.

May I ask the cost and time it buys? Would you suggest a certain level of player to work with him, or do you think he could accommodate anyone? PM me if you would like. Thanks!

Nick did a demo thing just before Christmas a few years back at Main Street in Masa AZ when it was owned by his friend Bob Jackson. The Show we electrifying!

Having met Nick on several different occasions, and having spent enough time with him, I can say for sure, Nick is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. He's very down to earth, and puts you at ease right away, like talking to one of your best friends does.

Good for you Will, you deserve the time. I hope to make it tonight to see the exhibition. We will see.

Nick and Mark

Nick and Mark stopped by the pool room for lunch on their way to Willow Creek and spent a couple of hours just hanging out and talking to the players. No one knew they were coming so it was a cool treat for the people who happened to be there. Nick is a class act who is puts on great exhibitions and clinics, and is very accomodating to everyone around. Many people don't know that Nick also has a cue and case company. I had the chance check out some of the new stuff like the Zebra wood and ebony break-jump cues and the instructional DVDs that are brand new with him and Buddy Hall. Check out NickVarner.com to see his stuff.

very cool.

a guy I know and a guy on my pool league team have him on speed dial. :D:angry:

Just left there per Nick

Hardtimes Sacramento?

Nick said he and Mark were at HT Sacramento Thursday.

They are in Riverside, Ca-Shooters pool room at Tyler/one block east on Indiana ()off the 91 East again tonight.

There may still be some openings for group lesson available.

As stated, I had a great time. Nick was informative, communicates clearly, speaks to you, not at you. He is a very fine instructor.

With hindsight, I got very lucky in the circumstances. Actually-'I sh1t out.'

Nick was extremely generous with his time and lesson content.

If you are local in SoCal-consider going to see Nick tonight.

I love meeting fellow Azers around the country so please try and make it as I would love to meet you.

Also it was a pleasure meeting you Bill and I am happy that you enjoyed your time. The rest ofthe clinic will be starting today at 12.00. So if you are in the Riverside area please stop by Shooters as we have a couple spots left. Also the exhibition tonight is a lot of fun with Nick Varner and starts at 7.30pm Free admission.

And Nick is pretty brassy too. He's not afraid to eat fried chicken in the hood. :D

Next time you guys roll through Northern California, try to stop by The Downlo in Chico, about 100 miles north of Sacramento. It's an excellent stop if you're on your way to/from Oregon. Not far off I5, right on HWY 99. Only Diamond Professionals in Norcal if I'm not mistaken. If you let me know you'll be coming through, I can definitely get the room filled by making a few phone calls.
