a guy i've done some tips and minor repairs for in the past, comes over a couple days ago for a tip job and proceeds to show me a MEUCCI that he got for $35 at a pawn shop
it wasn't an ORIGINAL
so, that means made after 1986, so i hear
anyways, this cue is literally beat to crap, buttcap slides on and off, all beat up, knicks,dings, gouges in the cue, shaft just as bad if not worse, no ferrule

he said he'd just leave it with me, no hurry, just whenever i get around to refinishing it

here's the KICKER
said that he would bring me the $50 to pay me in the next week or so
yes, i said $50
first i asked where the hell he got the idea it was $50
and after a couple dumb comments on his part, i handed him back the cue and told him, politely, well, maybe NOT SO POLITELY, to take the cue and not waste my time

this same guy is already BANNED from dickies shop :D
probably sherms also or will be if he asks sherm to do it for $50
and now he is on DOUBLE SECRET PROBATION (FROM ANIMAL HOUSE) at my shop
i guess he works for 50 cents an hour :eek:

Well done. Keeping these types of customers from wasting your time is essential. You're not being a hardass, you are simply protecting your valuable time. Anyone who cannot appreciate that cannot be a good customer, and you want good customers.

We have one gut wants me to put on a tip that fell off back on for $2.00,he is also banned fr all shops in my area,but he always phones all of us and asks anyway,i tell him he should buy his own lathe and charge $2.00 and hell get lots of buisness
 
Tell him to send it to Meucci and wait 6-12 months if he is lucky should cost around $200.00 and he will have $235.00 into a $150.00 cue.

Not at all a hard ass. Sometimes you just hjave to defend yourself and your value of time. Just because he got a CHEAP cue doesn't mean the reapirs to said cue will be cheap. I hate people that try to tell me what my pricing for services are going to be. My pricing for anything for that matter. You did the right thing. Get rid of the jerk. You don't need the negativity. Our jobs are hard enough as it is without outside help.
Dam the DOUBLE SECRET PROBATION. Out damned spot, out.

Yes but truth be known Brent was rather rude to me....it was the first time I met him and he told me were to stick my $35 Moochie. What a wiseguy....I had a cool $50 spot with his name on it too. Brent gets a waiting list now & now he doesn't remember the little people.:D :D :D

He didn't do that because u had a cheap cue.
He did that b/c you reminded him of Dennis D.
He still has traumatic experiences from DD and his cat.
 
One should never have to apologize for making a profit. More shops should hold firm, instead of letting the customer dictate the price

50$ is a little ridiculous, easpeacialy for a complete refinish, I know that and I dont even work on cues....

I do some auto body repair, and spraying, and I can say Id have more than 50$ in the clear even on something as small as a cue.....the good stuff is expensive..

I love it when a customer asks (with confusion on their face)

"You guys CHARGE for that?

My response is usually:

"Yes, sir. This is called.....(speaking really slowly) A BUSINESS!"

The place that does free cue repairs is down the street about 4 miles. Right hand side.

( I know they are higher than us so I send him there)

Gotta love dealing with the public.
