I am a college student, I don't have much money, I am a decent pool player, when i say decent i mean better than all of the people i play with. But i was getting pretty good and i could see every shot perfect. every shot i made was going straight in the pocket no rails. and it has been that way for about 1-2 months. but tonight i was off and i couldn't make anything, and i mean i always play for money with my friends and win all of their money. but tonight i just couldn't hit anything, like it was terrible...i could make the easy shots but the shots that are a little more difficult that i normally make i couldn't make. is this normal...i mean why was i playing so bad tonight, i was doing nothing different than i normally do but nothing was going in...and what's worse is i always play on this table. so is this normal to have off nights every now and then...i mean it's really frustrating to be playing so good and then play like you don't play pool that much.

HELP feedback please guys

Don't sweat it buddy.. I played some of my best pool a week and a half ago, and played some of the worst ever this weekend... I still don't know why exactly. Anyhow, maybe it's time for me to get a lesson.. lol

Scott Lee? lol

Relax buddy everybody has there bad nights or bad weeks. You can't play perfect all the time.

So... you are stuck money you really couldn't afford to loose. Maybe this is just another lesson to learn in you future as a pool player. It's hard to play your best game when you can't take your mind of the money you really shouldn't loose on the line.

That's pool ! Sometimes your in, sometimes your off. Look at the pros... When you reach a certain level it's all about consistency, psychology, stress gestion, game gestion... It's a lot of work !

Much things outside pool could interfer with your game. If you had a bad day or period, heart problems or other kind of problems it could affect your game hardly.

Advice :
1st rule : if you don't have the money or if you're not ready to loose it DO NOT gamble
2nd : Never under estimate your opponent
3rd : Never surestimate your own level

It's basic but I hope it helps !

Can you please tell that to Shane Van Boening? He seems to believe he can play perfect all the time, atleast he does

I highly doubt he has played perfect since he has started playing pool. Know one plays perfect pool all the time thats basically impossible. I think shane has lost matchs am I correct?

Don't play with money you can't afford to lose. That won't make you win everytime but it will take some presure off you while playing. Johnnyt

Have to agree ...

Your not in a situation that most of have not been in during our pool playing days. It is nothing new to say the least and I doubt if my pride would of even left me come on here and post something like this. I imagine most posters got a little chuckle out of this feeling it was a joke or felt you were out to scam someone or make them feel sorry for you ... It's just a lesson in pool never bet money you can't afford to lose and there is always someone out there better then you ... A tough lesson to learn but if you play the game long enough it happenes to most of us ... Guess that is why they call it gambling there are no sure things...

Guess it is all about The Color of Money ...lol...

Cant win 'em all. On nights like that just chalk it up and get it back the next night if you're actually better than them.

ya win some, ya lose some. I have been beat 10 times in a row, case $$$. Didnt make a difference the 11th time up at bat. its over stay in action ant it will come out ok, its the guys who dwell in the past that never make it.

Look at the bright side, if you always win against your friends, then you lost money you won from them back to them. This is like priming the pump. You aren't invincible any more. Time to raise the stakes and get your money back. I might be wrong but Forest Whittaker did it to Paul Newman in the COM, so it must work...

You shouldn't consistently take money from your friends.

Just my opinion.

This may be the heart of the matter. Just how well do your friends play? If you play the same people all the time, even for money, and you play better than them all the time, there will be times when your game just isn't there. To improve, you need to play different people, some of whom play better than you. A whole lot better.
While I was never really opposed to winning money from my friends, I was seldom able to bring my best game while playing them. I played better against better players who were not close friends.
I'm not morally opposed to your taking money from your friends, but they may be after a while;)

simplify your game

I have read a lot of "yup these things happen" which is true but not how to survive when they do. I played over 360 nights a year for ten years while doing blue collar work much of that time. Sometimes that meant hitting the halls or bars with the muscles tight and sore or me plain worn down to nothing from lack of rest.

The keys to winning were to simplify my game and to play every shot like that shot was the money ball for a big win.

Everybody has their own ethics but you aren't gambling with your friends if you win all the time. While I played a lot of pool with friends when I was college age, I never gambled with them because it wasn't any gamble for me. Of course it depends on how you define "friends" too.
