I Miss Pool Too Much

It's been about five months since I hung up my cue because of many health problems. My doctor told me to get another hobby that I could sit down with. The first model car I got half way through it before I stomped it to little pieces. Then I got the bright idea to buy a big model car where I could see and work with the larger piece. Two hours and over $100 later I put everything back in the box and gave it to some kid walking his dog. I miss pool more than I let myself believe.

About two weeks ago at the doctor I asked her to change my meds so I could breath better. I had asked her before and she wouldn't do it because of the long term side effects from these meds. Long term? I'm 73 and in poor health...WTF! Anyhow since she gave them to me I can breath about 50% better and in the morning I'm going to call the table mechanic to come over and rebuild the table with new cloth, new rubber, and re level. Lookout ghost, i'm going to kick your ass. Johnnyt

Good stuff Johnny. Same with me. The Dr. is making a big fuss over my meds.

I told him its the quality of life I have now over quantity. Altho, my gall bladder is ready to come out and its hurting
like a SOB right now.

Well Johnnyt I have been wondering how you were able to just quit.
I remember you stopping smoking but that was for all the right reasons.
The benefits of exercise and mental stimulation that this game offers seems to be perfect for us who are aging:wink:.

You could try and get a wheelchair. That way you'll be off our feet.

Yeah right, and you know what would happen there don't you. Johnny would be down at the retirement village hustling all the old Jewish men out of their
bagels.

Along with playing at home, can you make it to the local pool hall? Sometimes it's good to hang out, play a little pool if you can, and do some BSing with the guys.
Good luck, Johnny.

Johnny,
come to james place in riverview this weekend. They have a barbox tournament(no A players allowed) you might not be able to play but you can watch and maybe get in on the players auction. They start the auction around 11-12 on sat.
In case you don`t know where it is its about 1 mile south of bloomingdale on us 301.There will be some action also.
I know you always ask about bartable tournaments around tampa.

My doc actually says pool is good for me, in that I walk a little, sit a little, stretch a little, move in funny ways a little, all over a few hours...seriously! (If I run a rack of 10 ball I'm out of breath...)

My table is out on the sceened patio. Thats my biggest problem with the humidity high in Tampa, FL most of the time. If I can still shoot, and I can still enjoy it I'll have the patio closed in with A/C. Johnnyt

Mr. Johnny,

Good for You.

I agree with another poster, I forgot who it was, but, it's better to get out & play, unless you're inviting 'competition' over to your place.

Not to be 'morbid' but I don't know about you, but I hope I stretch out over the table to shoot a shot on the money ball, shoot it & make it & then 'move on'.

Best Wishes & the Best of Health to You for Many Years to Come &

I like this idea, Johnny.
Get out and mix if you can.
I love hanging around pool halls.

..and buy someone in the calcutta who most reminds you of a younger self.

God bless you

Way to go Johnny, welcome back. Do it in short spurts, 15 minute missions a few times a day and then do something else while  thinking about the next mission ;)

Dear Johnny T--

I could not imagine life without pool. It has been an elixir for me for fifty-two years now. One of the blessings of my retirement is that I live fifty miles of easy driving from a real poolroom with serious players. As the man says in THE HUSTLER, "No booze, no pinball, no..." whatever the quote is. I said to somebody the other evening, "This is a pretty nice joint." He protested that you couldn't say "pretty nice" and "joint" together, but I think any civilian coming in off the street would say it was a "joint" while any pool player of my generation would say this is "pretty nice."

I second the suggestion of Tramp Steamer, Foxcues and others. Even if you can't play, hanging out and watching are fun.

If they don't satisfy, forget the model cars and think about horse racing. It's hard to hurt yourself too badly with $2 wagers, and the atmosphere of tracks and OTB's can be very much like a good poolroom, except pool players are, incredibly, at least one notch above horseplayers in solvency and ethics.
