I miss Tar matches.....

The game was good if you are a pool nut but for the masses lets just stick with 8 ball. I can't say it was the worse and realized that some of the things that were done made sense and others were just bad ideas. I would say what was wrong besides using the game of Bonus Ball were the jerseys and not giving more cooperation to others in the industry. The positives were video production but my opinion was a bit biased along with a permanent quality arena, team aspect works and is fun to watch and of course the scoreboard makes total sense.

There were some interesting and positive concepts.

Just the game itself was complete garbage.

I still have no idea why Bonus Ball didn't just promote a huge open BB tournament. If they really wanted to get people playing the game that was the way to do it.

They were trying to sell it on ppv and beyond. There was little actual concern for the audience or players and they made a point of letting everyone know that.

Yes, they let us know that we weren't the target market :p

Well unfortunately AZB as a whole couldn't support that money pit. Really the target audience were the masses and also hopes that paramutual betting could be done with it. Tried and failed but people certainly love the stench of this damn dead horse called Bonus Ball.

I think challenge matches like TAR is very doable by cutting a lot
of the overheard cost if ran by the pool room. No need for the monthly lease, dont pay air tickets and rooming like TAR did.

A 3 day all-around, Alex vs Shane, at Steinway when both players are around the area.

$12/day or $25/3days. 8b/9b/1p.

25x300ppv. Let the players split it. Maybe they can put up 5K/player wager.

Heck I would be happy with just 1 above table camera angle.

start the matches at 2am always have a Pinoy in the mix and sell PPV to the Philippines for a buck a go x 98 million :p

Yeah well creating an 'exciting new pool game' and then not marketing it to people who actually like pool seems like strange proposal to me. It would be like creating a new surfboard and then saying, 'well it's not made for surfers.'

But hey, what do I know.

Justin and I have had issues but I wish him the best.

As some know, most small businesses fail. And while folks want to make TAR into something else, in the end, it was just a small business. If a restaurant makes a great sandwich that you love, but the restaurant doesn’t make any money, it closes. Then another business comes in and markets to a broader audience and tries to succeed. IMO, TAR was like putting a 5-star restaurant in a town of 1000, that has no jobs, and expecting it to survive. It was naive, and had no chance of making it. That’s why when you buying most franchises a significant portion goes to market research to evaluate if the business is viable, so if it isn’t you don’t pi$$ money away on a failed business. Even with that, they still fail, but if you look at the number of McDonalds that have failed it is a pretty small number.

I enjoyed Billy Incardona doing the commentary, which I found the best part of the TAR matches.

I think that TAR got so repetitive, as it was so often the "Shane" show. Justin has commented that he did that because Shane was always the biggest draw. He would know the numbers, but IMO, the lack of variety got boring.

The thing that Justin and others failed to mention is that I think they learned a lot, and some folks go to college for years and never learn anything. I hope that Justin can take all of the "learnings", and put together something successful.

Maybe a business with JAM? (Sorry I couldn’t resist)

Once again, I wish Justin and crew the best of rolls,

Ken

I STRONGLY disagree with your comments above. The technology was very new at the time that TAR entered the market and they were pioneers. Being the first to do something and give it a try is not naive! TAR had no way of knowing that the "LEAGUES" would not support the product and not "buy" some match logins as prizes!!! They can purchase TV's from panasonic for thousands as prizes but can't buy from TAR??? My league teammate William Morton years ago won the Men's Division singles in its second year ever! So, that is how i know what he received. Businesses could have given away login's to matches with every cue or case sold as a thank you versus throwing in some other products or even Tar shirts or DVD's. They would advertise with one magazine that was notorious for "NEVER" delivering! But, would not buy a banner or advertise with 'TAR" ??? LOL

Alot of businesses are on AZBilliards and "KNOW" they are the reason that "TAR" is gone. Nothing to do with the management or fans of the product!!! To put it as simple as possible "The Pool Industry SUCKS"

Regarding variety, the "BACKERS" are the ones that insist on getting behind only the best horses and most members here do not know "TOP" players from other towns. One Detriot player beat Frost and Justin hall and Larry Nevel in 1 pocket at Derby but his name is not strong enough to marquee the match and get viewers.

Alot of businesses make "MONEY" in this industry! The sad part is 'Greed" some have been publicly called out for it and we all know who they are. AZB is not naive! You can't make people see the correlation! In this thread, the argument was made that advertising "VALUE" was omitted when examining the contributions of TAR to its investor. The investor could have had membership growth due to TAR advertising???

Many industry business owners are "fools" in my opinion. The growth of the sport is "Directly" tied to the growth of their businesses. Supporting the sport and helping it grow correlates to helping their business! Ask anyone in the industry when the color of money came out and gave the industry a much needed kick and surge, how the sport helped business. They will tell you! "A rising tide lifts all boats"

I wish more TAR recorded matches were posted online for sale. I've bought a bunch of them and keep hoping I can buy more.

When the COM came out the APA was just starting to hit it's stride with minions beating the streets across the country bar to bar pool hall to pool hall in a booming economy which also helped the start of the bar grill pool hall Era
Maybe if TAR was around then it would still be today

You realize that is back during the commodore 64 time of computers? Not sure the mouse was out back in 84. Black and white only! Internet was nonexistent and band width could not sustain pictures let alone moving video.

I wish things were different.
