Thinking about the 2008 14.1, The Derby 14.1 Challenge, and just getting the Schmidt/Harriman challenge match DVD which I just got from Action Report on their 14.1 match to 400. I started thinking about the MIZ and how he would have flourished in these events. Man he would be knocking all these guys down when he was in his prime. He had the sweetest stroke and the greatest of all minds when it came to 14.1. I just hope we can see another one like him again. I just dont think anyone can compare with him and the things he could do.

Thanks for sharing steve,I hope you and your dad are hittin um

I feel and have always felt lucky to have seen him play. Had dinner with him a 5 course Italian meal prepared at the table. A cafe of wine, drinks. I also picked him up at the airport when he came to town for exibitions. Abig man with a bigger heart. I was at the the time getting a deal from R.black for 10 cues. At this time Steve and Richard weren't talking much because steve had sold a very fancy R. Black custom. Steve through out names like Mottey as his next cue. I played with 3 of Steve's R.Blacks that were for sale- I passed but I did spend a day with R.Black.( he still has shafts made for the champions that played with his cues). R.Black is a tough guy to deal with his cues are more art than playability I felt then. And richard if your listening olbuddy (you still owe me 1,500. worth of work from that deal) I'll collect when I want a cue to hang on the wall. He put a couple hundred thousand dollars worth of cues on one table. But he felt cue making was a secret. please. Anyone looking for stuff about steve R.Black could help but it'll cost ya mark

Yup, Steve was special and will be missed by many!

Most defnitely, Steve was undoubtedly one of a kind and undoubtedyly a true legend of pool in every sense of the word, as well as being one of pool's greatest and most loved and respected characters.

He may be gone, but he'll never be forgotten.

Willie

The MIZ

A friend gave me this when I opened my bar for good luck. It hung in there for 8 years and now it is right next to my home table. I cherish it.

I do feel the same... I'm just a gray heard boy living far from the "real action country" and never met the MIZ. I did read the book he and Eva M Laurense wrote and looked at some of his Accustats (correct spelled?) videos and boy he was a inspiration.

Having lost 3 close ones since July have however made me think in another way. They are all up there above the blue sky some where, looking down while we all have to get along with our lives remembering them in the best way we can. I'm sure Miz is looking down and admire the new players and new technology with a big smile on his face :-)

The upcoming 14.1 event would be interesting to follow.

I have the exact same Hall of Fame print of Steve, also signed by him. I also have the Hall of Fame prints of Mosconi, Deacon Crane, and Jimmy Caras, all signed by them.

Makes quite a foursome on the wall.

I'm jealous, the other 3 word look nice on my wall too! Nice collection. Good inspiration when you need it.

I never was a big straight pool fan, Yo. Because no one played the game in the south. But, I was a huge Miz fan. The Miz was, by far, the most underrated one pocket player in history.

You hear many stories about Ronnie Allen offering anyone 10-8 at Johnston City and no one would step to the table. In 1977, the Miz played Ronnie Allen, dead even, one pocket at the Greenway in Baton Rouge for a total of 6 hours and they broke,,,,,,,,,dead even. You bet the, Miz, could play all games.
