I need to unload

Wow, this thread has gone straight to hell. Later y'all! I'm gonna go to the other threads and go back to telling nitwits the rules of 9-ball and where the closest bca instructor is.

Nitwits to ask about instruction? Why? I thought that by asking on this board I might get input from someone that has personal experience with an instructor in my area.

Do you have to hit the yellow ball first?

That's what I offer.

So far, you're the only one who says this.

You've taken some juvenile "5th" plea citing your anonymity and don't have a single voice ( save your's ) to back up that you even own a pool table in your home, much less "two" halls.

You haven't demonstrated that you have the people skills to run anything, in even as simple a setting as a message board.

You'd do well to be nice to those Officers that come to your place. You might need them on your side if you were to speak to someone in person, the way you have here.

Just trying to defuse this. I didn't mean to be taken seriously. Sorry if I offended you. I'm certain someone from that area will happily know of someone to recommend to you.

I'll tell you where I live if you're offering the 5 on out. You can bet what you want. Post it.

Teacherman, you are way to immature to even own a pool room, must less be a so-called teacher. Pretty much everyone on this forum knows who the good guys are and when some ass clown puts their two cents into a thread they have no clue about and starts rambling about their 5% and whatnot, people are going to step up. I've wasted enough time reading through your posts and all your stupidity. If you aren't willing to prove your point and tell everyone who you are, then just shut up. Quite frankly, noone believes anything you say, much less can to see you on this forum.

I swear this is FL. Anyone else think that.?No one I've ever seen on here has this much time on their hands to argue about their knowledge. I'm going to a better thread. Sam

Since I started this thread, I am hoping to end it as it has gotten away from it's original intent.

I did speak with the owner and as many of the pool players and I thought, he didn't care too much. He gave me the explanation that he has instructed his staff that while they close at 2:30am on Friday and Saturday nights, they can shut the tables down at anytime after 2:00am. This was never announced and isn't posted anywhere in the pool room. I then brought up his Manager's actions and how I felt that the situation wasn't handled well by his manager, I told him that I was expecting some sort of customer service or reasonable understanding, his explanation was that if I wanted customer service or reasonable understanding that I shouldn't be in his pool hall after 2:00am (even though they are open until 2:30am).

The way that I think he should have responded is this "I apologize for what happened, I instruct my staff that they have to end games get everyone out as fast as possible. With her not being aquainted with pool she may not have understood the importance of your situation. She was doing her job as I have instructed and I will talk with her about the way she reacted and see if there is a way that it could have been handled in a different way."

This reaction would have had me come back occasionally and spend my money and no one is hurt by it.

His attitude toward the situation and his staff's actions have made me decide to not go to his pool hall anymore. If Teacherman wants to doubt any of what I have said here and wants the other side of the story I greatly encourage him to call and speak with Ron Dobesinski at the Green Room 608-277-8588. If you would like to know what the other pool hall in the area thinks of me I encourage you to call the owner Matt McCabe 608-251-1134 and ask how many problems he has had from me in 10 years. I strongly encourage you to call both establishments.

What I don't like from this thread is how pool room owners have lumped all pool players into one group that ruins a pool hall. In playing pool I have met the greatest people in the world from all different walks of life. I have also met the worst people as well. But for every bad person I have met 100 good ones. Bad people are just not at the pool hall, they are on the golf course, at work, at the gym. Bad people are just a fact of life and if you lump all players together in this group you are extremely misguided.

Also it seems as though you (teacherman) have had a rough time at your pool hall - customers not paying, constantly having the police come over - kicking people out. Doesn't sound like the place I would like to spend my money and I am sure that is why you have a tough time making it as a room owner (if you really own one).

A great example of someone who simply doesn't get it........and never will.

Regardless of the circustances surrounding this particular incident and our disagreement about what is the right thing to do, westjer can't or won't accept the larger premise, which is no pool room depends on its pool players for their success.

All he can do is assume my business is bad because I don't cater to pool players.

I've been in business for 15 years, westjer. In my 16th year. Still going. Been self employed since 1992. I cover a $30,000/month payroll. I pay almost $20,000 a month in rent, the utility bill is $50,000 per year. Then there is insurance, supplies, taxes, and on and on and on.

Pisses you off that I can do that without you doesn't it? Not only without you but all like you.

It's called profiling. I can avoid headaches by so doing.

Of course you blame this on me, not the acts of the idiots who are called pool players.

As if I, the room owner, am the cause of their behavior.

I am not the cause. I am the policeman of my pool room. I weed out what I don't want.

If you don't like the stereotype fix it.

And if you aren't one of them, why do you include yourself in the group.

I expressed my disgust with the group. Explained exactly what they mean to my business. You then stand up and defend the group as if I'm attacking you. You put yourself there. I didn't.

I'll say this. If you would have said what I said, I would've agreed with you...... Even though I play pool. I just don't consider myself one of them

The stereotype is real and earned. Until they correct themselves they'll always be second class.

Nothing about you pisses me off, I don't care about you. I personally don't believe that you own a pool hall. If you did you would say where it is. I think that you just like to cause problems. This is my last response on this thread.

I play out of Paul Mottey's pool room here in Pittsburgh. I have never experienced anything like this. Paul and the people who work for him are very understanding. His pool room is open till 2:00 am on weekends, but if you are gambling and wish to play longer he ups his rates from $4 per hour to $6 per hour, this is per person. Usually the winning player will tip the employee according to what they have won. I have never seen him, or one of his employees kick anybody out because they wanted to close. On numerous occasions he has stayed open straight through the night because of one table with action on it. I realize this is probably not the norm but I couldn't, and wouldn't, imagine playing in a pool hall that would interrupt a money game. On a couple of occasions the employee would need to go somewhere early in the morning and would say that he would like to leave at around 3:00, but he would inform us of this a couple hours in advance. If it started to get close to 3:00 then we would ask him before we started another set. No one has ever been cut off in the middle of a set, let alone the middle of a game, that had money riding on it.
This thread just makes me appreciate how good we have it in Pittsburgh. Well at least we have a good pool hall. That's about all we have going for us.

Captain May I?????????

Exchange between employee and customer joe.

Employee: Um, Joe......I kinda would sorta like to go home. I have things to do tomorrow.

Joe: No way.....I'm stuck 200 bucks.

Employee: Well, how much longer do you expect to play?

Joe: As long as it takes. I'm going to bust this guy.

Employee: Um.....well....I've got to go to the hospital for tests.

Joe: Can't you see I'm gambling!!! Quit whining. If you don't stop I'm going to tell Paul. He won't be happy.

Employee: OK, Joe.....sorry to interrupt.

Joe: I'll let you know what time you get off work. Who do you think you are trying to keep me from making a living?

Teacherman's response.....

WHY?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Did I say it loud enough?

WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY??

Hear me that time?......for the pool player that won't be in your room until next time he has a sucker.

And the employee gets to do this for what? Minimum wage? Or slightly higher? And the juice.

You've got to be kidding me.

I would LOVE to work there. It would only be for one night, I can guarantee you that. An extremely enjoyable night.

Yo Teach,
You confuse some and aggrivate the rest. I don't know you. That's a FACT. What isn't a fact is your stand. You keep eluding your point. What is it exactly? So far, I have this:
You own a pool room- don't work the shifts? you do seem to be posting alot
You had money on that game-that's just wrong to use your position to get you cash..WAIT.. YOU OWN A POOL ROOM. YOu talked alot about how much you were making, why would you want peanuts?
You "weed out what you don't want"- what is that specifically?
You said "Pisses you off that I can do that without you doesn't it? Not only without you but all like you."- sounds like the business is more of a power trip, than a living to you.
Sorry man, but you say that you play pool. And you don't classify yourself as "one of them", but if you look back at what ALL OF US have read, you are no different than the ones you choose to stereotype. You don't have to be on the table to "rob" someone, behind the counter works out just as good. Seriously man, work open to close for a month. Be nice to EVERY customer that comes in. If there's action, DON'T GET IN ON IT. Please, stop the power trip. I'm not angry with anyone that posts here, but I can't help but notice that you are purposely trying to aggrivate everyone who doesn't see things your way. If you think that you're going to try to get a leg up on me, it won't work. Go as far as checking my grammar. It will only prove to the rest of us what kind of person you are.

i am wondering if the Real teacherman is the infamous F*** L**** ..who comes on here and another site and stirs things up then gets kicked off....time will tell people.........

Here in my area, there's a guy who runs his pool room darn near about 18 hours out of the 24-hour day. He used to have day help, but when he discovered the day counter person was playing pool and helping himself to the money in the cash register from time to time, he decided to bring in his family to help run the business, a wife and two college-age daughters.

His kitchen area, located behind the pool counter, is in full view, and is clean as a whistle. He is constantly emptying ash trays, wiping down the table rails, vaccuming the aisleways, making sure the bathroom has everything one needs, and is NEVER still. Although a modest kitchen area, he has quite a big menu, offering a variety of treats, not the usual blood mud consisting of fried cheese sticks and the like. When in the kitchen, he washes his hands quite often, and the food is always FRESH. Wanting to keep his regulars happy, he offers a variety of beverages, to include Starbucks mocha drinks :) , always catering to his patrons. He had some coffee mugs printed up with the name of his pool room and presented me with one upon arrival one day, a gesture that is not forgotten.

He's an action-friendly pool room owner. Since there is no alcohol served at this facility, he doesn't experience the same heat as other room owners. MANY times, he kept the room open after hours to allow the games to continue, even though he had been up almost 24 hours, trying to keep his regulars and visiting players happy. I have witnessed, on more than one occasion, action players battling it out until the wee hours of the morning, sometimes until 8:00 a.m., and when they arrive at the counter to pay the time, they balk, whine, and moan at the cost. I feel like slapping 'em and telling them to wake up and smell the coffee.

There's another pool room in the area which is run by a female pitbull bitch, watching your every move, ready to pounce. One day, I happened to be with a GROUP of players who were attempting to engage in action immediately after a tournament, and as players are wont to do, they began barking. The pitbull manager, seeing gambling in the making, came over and howled at the top of her lungs, warning all they will be barred forever. She read each one of them the riot act, and it was quite loud, enough to make the whole room pause until it was over. Meanwhile, nothing had occurred YET. It was only a verbal barkfest. I was sitting on the sidelines, watching the whole incident, and couldn't wait to get out of there, thinking I'd rather bar myself from a joint, than be barred. In my haste, I left my coat there, not a real expensive one, but one that I kind of liked.

Several weeks later, I was in the area and decided to see if somebody turned in my coat. I walked in and there she was, a middle-aged woman, brandishing her trademark scowl. I approached her and politely asked if somebody had turned in a coat recently, and when she recognized me as friends of one of the group of action players from several weeks before, her facial expression immediately changed. "We get lots of coats. How would I know?" And that was it.

Well, I had had enough of her action. I smiled sweetly and looked her dead in her eyes and said, "Is there some reason that you have a problem with me? I left my coat, and I've politely asked you if it was turned in. You seem to be upset with ME for no reason I can think of. Can I re-word my question differently, so that you may understand the intent of my inquiry?" She immediately changed her tempo and smiled, escorting me to the Lost and Found closet. And there was my coat, thankfully. Ironically, her boss happens to be the son of my old boss, and thoughts of making a few phone calls began to dance in my head, but for what? Maybe she's just a crappy people person, but a good manager.

The atmosphere of any pool room is created by the owner and/or the staff, and I sure do know where I like to take my business. The really cool pool rooms are run by owners who have the same passion for the game as most of us here on this forum. I'd much rather go to a room where my business is appreciated and where I'm with like-minded folk than to a billiards emporium where you have to send a flare up to get service.

Moral of the story, pool players and room owners are people with varying dispositions and personalities. There's some good apples and some nasty rotten ones. In my experience, folks recognize room owners who want to create a good pool environment. In every community, there's always one room that stands out, above all the rest, and there's where I take my business. As far as the players go, I make sure me and mine do the right thing. ;)

So to all of those that think a pool room should stay open to cater to a 'pool player' on the one time a month they are in action late at night.....I work at a pool room one night a week & the last time I stayed late for action, here is the scenario. Player A vs Player B. Player A, the only money he spent that night beyond pool time was on soda & had the nerve to order a soda WITHOUT ICE and then wanted a pitcher of ice on the side. Guess he wanted to get the fullest value for his $1.00 each time. These two guys were playing $100 sets and one guy was winner $200 at close. They begged for me to stay so they could continue playing. I agreed & they were set to play another race for the $200. Player A asked Player B to 'pay off' before they started this set and Player B told him he didn't have the money but would have it the next day. I immediately said last game and wouldn't allow them to play another set as I don't know who was stupidier in this situation...the player with no money, the player gambling with someone with no money, or me for thinking about staying late to cater to these two. Needless to say, Player A has not been back since and the pool room is still open. This guy is a known pain in the ass to begin with & I couldn't be happier that he doesn't come back.

Makes me think of trying to go to a restaurant that closes at 10pm and ordering food at 9:55pm.

If one of the Mods or Admins of the site would humor me and PM me with the IP addys for Teacherman and FL, I'd be pleased to do a quick search and report where they are both located and if they are indeed the same person.
