....and lost my azz! I consider myself to have a decent one-pocket break. Very few balls get knocked loose and I leave whitey high enough to protect my pocket, but not too high so that he has too many other balls to work with. Well, I was in a trap off his first shot! Then he proceeded to free-wheel and hit 3, 4, 5 railers right through the heart on tight Diamond tables.
These tables were used in the BCA Open and 2 of them were further tightened for one-pocket only, in a new room in Kenmore, WA. They played great. I was only able to manage 1 or 2 balls against him each for 3 games, although I did step into the set cold.
He was very gracious, and it sure was fun to watch his creativity on the table.
I cried Uncle and asked to play 8 ball. He said it was too easy so I told him he had to play last pocket bank on the 8, even though he had just displayed how ridiculously easy it was for him to bank. But he either forgot what he needed to do or let up and got basically straight in on the 8 and tried to 2-rail it in, but it hit my ball, which I had seen was in the way anyway. I then ran out and he cried Uncle, lol.
I had better luck playing 1-hole against Mr. J, especially when Mike coached me or talked during Jeff's shot, rofl.
Anyway, it was a fun time against a champion at a wonderful new room called the Golden Fleece Billiard Club...and one of my new sponsors. There's 10 Diamonds (9-footers) and he will be putting in more soon. He is in the process of putting in 2 restrooms, a kitchen, and a balcony so diners can look down on matches. He is going to put 2 5x10's in and later knock out a wall and build out backwards, enlarging the space to possibly put in bar boxes, as well as more 9-footers. He believes in helping the players and will only be charging $2.50/hr. for table time!
And he is devising a way to let kids play free. He means to raise some future champions out of there. He won't be officially open until September, but he is open by invitation now to play, so if you are a player and in town, make sure to stop in.
