I think I'm getting ripped off

Yes I did.

Then its the same guy.

I would call the cops and refer him to the other transactions that "J Holmes" has made on this web site.

The guy is out of control, he's been banned 4 times this week. I would try to contact someone on the other end to intercept the package - its worth a shot. If I lived near there I would be waiting for this A-hole to show up - believe me, I'd help you out if I could.

I don't know if 4300 is a lot to you, but just out of principle, I'd have my bodyguard on the next flight to wait at the po box. Just a thought........

I guess what I am trying to say is, like Flipmode mentioned in post#12 - without the buyer transaction history (as in I have never done it on here) will someone still be willing to sell something to me? I'd be pretty hurt if someone did me like that. Esp. if I transfered funds and then didn't receive a cue in return. More than the $, it would be the principle of business ethics. I guess there is always someone in the crowd, ruining it for others,eh?
I suppose that is what the feedback is for. I will make sure when the time comes, that I buy from someone with good feedback.
Thanks!
Kev

You can always use another respected member of the forum as a broker. I have offered to do this a couple times free of charge. This way, the broker recieves money in full after inspecting the property and insuring it's condition. Win-win for not much money. This should definitely have been done for an item valued at $4300.

Now that is a great idea! I never thought of that. Thanks for the tip!!!

I think the only recourse you have is to fly to wherever this PO Box is today and wait on the perp to come into the post office and get your cue back. I would certainly book a flight and beat the shit out of someone if they stole a $4300 cue from me.

Put 'em up, put 'em up! Which one of you first? I can fight you both together if you want. I can fight you with one paw tied behind my back. I can fight you standing on one foot. I can fight you with my eyes closed. Oh, pull an axe on me, eh? Sneaking up on me, eh? Why, I'll... Ruff!

yep, time to buy a plane ticket. and overnight a gun to the same address. just wait for the delivery to get there....

For those forum members that have not kept up with the nonsense that "J Holmes" has been up to in the Wanted/For Sale forum - here is the condensed version of the story...

When he posted as BarkCinnamon, there was a bad transaction for some jackets - I forget the particulars, but he ripped off a few people and was subsequently banned - he came back as "Loniwheels" and ripped off another cue from Leon Sly (12/07/07)

His other aliases have been
jackie
applespliter
loniwheels
barkcinnamon
parismango
brownstone400
jasxe
Stanley
wrench

and probably others that I have missed.

The guy gets his rocks off by ripping people off. It's always the same story - he needs it now - the check will clear - etc -

If you run acorss something like this, my advice is to get with iba7467 or another respected forum member to serve as a broker prior to shipping the merchandise.

the shipping address is always
J Holmes
PO BOX 528145
Flushing, NY

Stopping the pickup

Maybe you could hire a private investigator, or, a off-duty law enforcement officer from that area that be at the post office when the cue arrives.

Maybe speak with the local police in that area for some recommendations.

Good Luck

I'd be on the red eye to NY and pretty pissed when I got there. $4300 is just too much to let slide.

wow, unbelievable

I don't care what kind of story somebody tells me, I would never ship any cue of any value before payment clears much less a $4300 cue. I hope it works out for you somehow some way

I don't think that you should be thinking that you got ripped off. You should be knowing that you got ripped off. ALL the signs were there. Good luck to you and hope that you are able to recover your cue.

As other posters have suggested, it would be worth it to me for that value cue (and even just principle alone) to fly there and stake out his PO Box. It would be ideal if you got a parking spot right up front where you could see his PO Box from your rental car. He is almost sure to pick it up the day that it is delivered, and predicted delivery date is usually very accurate and is the date that it is delivered.

Even if you didn't wish to confront him yourself out of fear, you could take his picture and get his license plate info and maybe even follow him to see what address he goes to, all info that would make it very easy for the police to recover your cue and to prosecute him.

talk to Marcus Fast N Loose.. somehow he got a package that has already been shipped turned around once.. and since you know where the post office box is, you should be able to call the post office direct.

EDITED: Reading Comprehension issues, my mistake.

Hope it turns out well for you. Post pics of the cue please.

I'm Trying To Feel Sorry For Tommy T., I Really Am....... BUT

I'm finding it hard to feel badly for Tommy T.
He's been here long enough and read enough cue horror transactions in the FS/WTB forum to have fallen for this.

I mean the guy (the prospective buyer) has NO I-Trader score and ZERO posts to AZB. His profile shows that he just turned 21 last week and he wants this cue immediately for his daughter ? His profile shows that he lives in Tampa, FL, but he wants the $4300 cue shipped right away to a PO Box in NEW YORK CITY.

Jesus, how many red flags have to pop up before you ship a cue under those circumstances and without your money in hand ?
Doug

Since 90% of all posters here are male, nevermind pool players, where did you get the idea that a woman would even know what a $4300 scruggs was all about ? Sorry, but you NEVER send a cue out before you have money in the hand. I'm sorry for your loss, but I can't understand this one at all.

tim

p.s. next time use an escrow service and pay the fees.

I know. I'm a moron. I've been buying and selling cues for years and should have known better. I've had to many great transactions and believed they would all be that way.

I would call Usps and see if they can hold the package from being delivered to the po box.....You have enough ammo on the wanted/forsale forum .....here are a few threads that mention J Holmes

so are you gonna go and crack this bum's skull or what?

I just tried to get the phone number of the post office and there are 10 of them in the Flushing area.

If I were you I would find an AZ'er that lives in NYC and pay them something like $500 to stake out the place today and tomorrow and if they could follow the guy and get his address that you could turn over to police, I'd pay them another $500 for tracking him down. This is about the best opportunity we have of busting this guy from ever ripping someone off from the board. People that have been ripped off by this guy before may even chip in on paying the AZ'er to do it. Even people that didn't get ripped off may chip in for it to get rid of a predator from our forum. I'm sure there is an AZ'er that would like a very decent payday and possibly a little adventure.

I'll be the first to volunteer to throw in some money for it.

You have no chance of getting your cue back unless you do something like this... IMO.
