I wonder who taught Efren how to play pool

Watch the podcasts with him on TAR on YouTube, I know he mentions the player he looked up to when growing up and how he learned to play along with a bunch of other info.

Q: What top players influenced you when you first started?
A: Like I said there were no top players in those days. Maybe they were playing in America, but where I’m from I was not aware of them. I only knew who they were whe I was already playing professionally so you can’t say they were an influence.

efren m reyes

i remember one time he was asked how did he get to be so good, and his answer, though i cannot quote him, was "Watching bad players.." or maybe he said "Beginners.."

In my recollection, the ever-humble Man has only credited himself as responsible for the player he becAme.

Like the famous oscar speech, from Raymond plumpkiss: I'd like to thank me, me and finally me, for all the commitment and effort require to receive this award.

They couldnt teach him to have that mind. Im pretty sure if i had taught him, he'd still be the man.

When I first met Efren, I was with my old friend, Brigido Quinto.
Efren said "We all learned from him."

Other than that, I feel Efren learned from everybody he met.....
.....like all masters do.

FREDDY THE BEARD helped teach efren one pocket
fredddy has a signed note thanking him for such and efren has said so on a youtube interview

I'm sure he was influenced by others but he lived literally in a pool hall. That's how he learned.

It's like asking who taught Babe Ruth to hit a baseball. He was taught how to hit but at some point you have to credit the player as having some special rare talent others don't possess.

Albert Einstein learned from others but there is only one Einstein.

I'm sure whoever influenced Efren and the Babe and Einstein also taught many others who didn't turn out to be as good.

When Effie was in Chicago in the late 80s, he and I played One pocket for $50 and $100 a game 3 or 4 times a week for over a year. In between his and my matches he played Billy Incardona very often also. It was a great time for pool in Chicago, as along with Efren in Chicago was Jose Parica and Rudolpho Luat.

How da ya tink dey got to be so gotdam good?:)
