i think the first 3 are really good ideas that need to be put in place. the last 2 are optional, but imo it is pretty ridiculous the mosconi cup cant get yall a van back to the airport like- wtf?
Ok first stop with the luck factor it's overrated and everybody plays on the same tables I'm all for it being run like a team sport with a experienced coach not a Captain a coach and a team Captain that leads by example
Last time I checked we played here ,, Im sure something like this has some TV appeal because it has the USA tag on it and the us against them would certainly get some viewers certainly not like the Super Bowl or anything close but enough to get some exposure and some sponsor involvement
I will disagree on your thinking of training like martial arts and for long nite gambling
This is short sprits it take the ability to be ready and start there is no time or deep pockets to keep you in a match
There are plenty of players geared to play big sets that can't play short race tournament pool

Over the past seven Mosconi Cups, counting total racks won, the score has been Europe 583- 485. That means that, in rough terms, Europe won a 100 ahead race. They've won 55% of the racks played in the last seven years. That is a thrashing, no more and no less.
Those who make comments like change the equipment, change the format, change the equipment, change the venue, give us a few more rolls, change this or change that and the American(s) will win or would have won are, quite unintentionally, part of the problem. They are the ones who continue to allow the American players to be delusional every year about their prospects and to conclude that they don't need to further develop their games to start winning again.
Will 2014 be another year in which America lives in denial? Or will it be the year in which Americans develop their games? Only the most delusional think that American players not named Van Boening can, more than occasionally, compete with the best of Europe (and, more obviously) Asia.
The right training, as suggested by CJ, might be America's only hope.

And who could forget the time one of azb's "elite" coaches barked for the Blue-through & the breaks...
Of course it was not Mr. Wilson and I exclude him from the group of coaches who cant play but make claims players cant teach. Those guys are hustling the only way they know how. There is no better coach for a mosconi cup type situation than someone who understands how to win and more importantly how to win under extreme pressure.
Great thread CJ.

I think you were a great champion, but I think you have too much baggage.
I think you are very sincere guy and want the best but your endless support of Earl and Rodney has shown your true colors. Probably more of a true friend than most and because of that you couldn't or wouldn't be great coach.
I have preached and preached that this last group was problems waiting to happen, and I was right. I was Poo-pooed here by you and JAM and several others.
The opportunity was BLANTENT that we could have showcased our great young talent like Skylar, Landon, Justin Hall and others, and presented the USA and pool in positive light, but Johnny and you wanted the Jerry Springer show and you got it.
So don't come on here to campaign for being a Captain.
We need new blood in there including the captains!
I do respect you and your accomplishments, and frankly your desire, but I feel it is misguided and way off target. This is shown by the showing of this years group of MC.
Best of rolls to all,
Ken
Strong post with great points.
I was under the impression the Matchroom picked all the players is that not true?
It was my impression that CJ mentioned that Johnny called him and they worked together on it.
I could be wrong, but that was what I remember.
Ken
Ken
I could be wrong.
You could be wrong.
We both could be wrong.
But I don't think, in this case anyway, we both could be right.
Kevin
CJ, I think you'd be a great captain. The 5K needed for training and expenses prior to the event is a modest request. It seems that the timeline where players are selected prior to the Mosconi Cup may not lend itself enough time to practice together, plan and develop a game strategy and the team building necessary to put forth a match winning effort. It's kinda like running a relay race where the right players are placed in the correct positions for the team to run its race to its best abilities. And, being in shape to do so….
Ken_4fun;4513096 I do respect you and your accomplishments said:I had nothing whatsoever to do with who played on the Mosconi Cup team this year or last.....my thread makes it very clear that I won't be interested in being the Captain again, the only interest I have is being a player....and that's probably a "long shot".
This thread is to give my opinion on what had to take place for the USA team to have a chance, nothing more, nothing less.....if the 5 changes don't take place I highly doubt if the American team will have much better luck no matter who is Captain or team mates.
I believe Shane would have been extremely tough to beat at that moment, and although Darrin is at his level, Shane had the upper hand that night. imho 'The Game is the Teacher'
CJ ,, i have often have wondered why sports shrinks are not used it pool like in golf and other sports I am one of the few who actually went to one although be it I'm not a pro I had tremendous results , I have talked to some player some lower end pros and they have balked at this idea why do they think their beyond this I experienced one of my best runs ever in masters APA play winning several matches in a win or go home won them all and made it to Vegas , I can't see why they are reluctant I watch many pro's who check up under the gun I think it would help tremendouslyI had nothing whatsoever to do with who played on the Mosconi Cup team this year or last.....my thread makes it very clear that I won't be interested in being the Captain again, the only interest I have is being a player....and that's probably a "long shot".

I'd call Darren the most clutch pool player since Efren.
The only really big spot I can remember in which Darren played Shane in a match with a big amount of money riding on it was at the 2012 Challenge of Champions, a winner take all affair for $25,000. Darren beat Shane by 10 racks to 1. History has shown that the bigger the spot, the better Darren plays.
I place a lot of credence in your opinion here, but your assumption that Shane would have won over Darren is no more than speculation.

I don't get it
