If an unknown back said he would cover you for a $100k set, would you play?

Lou,
What if it were someone that you DO know, and did have trust/faith in (knowing that $100k to them is not a big deal, and that your overall well being was in no way in jeopardy).
For instance, if your Great Uncle was a Multi-millionaire, and just wanted to get involved for the love of gambling... would you still avoid that game, or consider it?

Everyone would take the game if the "unknown backer" was actually known, trustworthy, safe, and rich enough not to be hurt by a loss. There are no downsides left.

I wouldn't show my game at that high a level for that percentage! LMAO!

The backer would have to make it 80/20 or so, in my favor, for me to be interested. :)

If you were in a "barking match" with a player that was roughly your speed, and out of left field he says "let's play for $100k", and your phone rings, and on the other end you hear, "I will back you for the 100, 60/40 split"...

do you take the game?

discuss lol

Depends how much you hate Barton. ;)

Of course. Assuming that the money will be posted and frozen. Take the free roll.

Happened to me at a show. I was doing a jump cue presentation and a well known shortstop started heckling me and offered to give me the five out and the snap for 2000. One of the spectators leaned in and whispered to me to take it and he would back it. I said I would play that way and the shortstop did more back flips than Mary Lou Retton.

Not before saying he would play any I brought even for 500 a game...Larry Nevel was walking by and I called him over and said Larry would you play this guy some for 500 a game.

Larry says sure. The SS says anybody but him. I said ok well I have a guy named Rodney, a Jose, a Johnny....which one would like.

The crowd got a great laugh out of this whole show. The shortstop left and we resumed destroying pool in America with the jump cue. :-)

I would have to feel good about the game. If I knew I had no chance I'd pass. If I liked the game I'm would tell the backer what I thought the percentages were and if he still wanted to go I'd play.

I probably wouldn't. That kind of money brings out the worst in people. Even i the backer is trustworthy, you have to worry about the guy you are playing and about getting back to your car and back home without getting robbed.

I will echo that as well. I would only take the game if I felt I had a realistic chance.

Of course I would. What could possibly go wrong?

Absolutely nothing. Unless the backers names were either, Nunzio, Frankie or Vinnie.

Then, if you lose, a change of residence might be necessary.

For lower amounts, ($100 or less), I could probably fade it. I couldn't accept that much money as a gift and riding on myself.

I'm sure that there are a ton of Pros that would jump at an offer like that.
