If It's True $ Was Held Back From MC

The truth is out there... cue creepy music

200+ posts on this thread and no one has thought to mention doing a statistical analysis of the Mosconi cup matches? They are on youtube and we do have several recent match videos from other matches to compare stats from. I believe pool-trax.net has stats on the Archer Feijn match and a few others. The game data would probably clarify the situation.

The issue with an exhibition event like the Mosconi cup is pretty obvious. We have online bookies in the UK and elsewhere taking bets on matches with no way to make sure that the participants are not taking a dive. This seems to cause a huge mismatch of incentives. Play your best and receive $10,000 for a loss or $20,000 for a win. Take a dive and place a few bets via intermediaries and you increase your take exponentially with zero risk. You would have to be stupid to expect players to throw good money away.

What protects events like TAR aside from the integrity of people like Justin and Mark is the lack of opportunity elsewhere to make risk free money. Because most of the side action is between friends. If one of the online bookies took bets on TAR matches the prize fund would have to be much larger to keep the players honest.

When the White Sox conspired with Arnold Rothstein to fix the series the difference between what they were paid per year ($6,000) and what they made for the dump ($20,000) seems to pale in comparison to the costs of a life time ban. This and the insanely high paychecks of real professional athletes makes it difficult to incentiveise pro athletes to dump.

Now imagine if there were no way to enforce a life time ban on players because there was no organization with the power to enforce such a ban. Now it's all up side...

So what you should ask your self is if the USA didn't throw the mosconi cup what the hell is wrong with them. What kind of idiot would you have to be to throw away free money with practically zero risk.

zero risk? You need to go around the block a few more times.

Yeah I think so too and I was and am waiting for the Pink One to explain. I thought maybe you guys caught some of that FatBoy Flu when you were in Vegas.

When i read it as i recall- I said to myself-She doesnt mean that about TAR, she's talking about the MC. I think there was a dangling participle or something like that.

Maybe i got it wrong- we shall see.

I like to play this game.

Is the rumor some of the guys dumped or even better were found out to have wagered on it and influenced the outcome. I'm just guessing because I'm not cool enough to be told that and I'm just following the context clues.

Sh!t! Is that what this thread is about??? I always bet on Europe over USA in any major event. This year, I bet on USA blind, before the teams were announced. Just had a "feeling". Mikey, I want my money back from the action room :grin-square::grin-square::grin-square:

Or she was wound up and an apology is coming. I'm just not tossing that pretty pink rope over the tree branch for her neck just yet.

I mean its an AZ rule, like Gus is God, you can't mess with TAR.

Jen, the next time I am at Grekos, if Bill, (funny, a Greek guy named Bill, almost the same as an Italian guy named Frankie) is working, I will ask him how they make Greek Livers.

Pretty sure he will tell me of the main ingredient. Grekos also serves, Greek Roast potatoes.

I asked Bill how they make them and was surprised to find that the main ingredient was chicken soup (powdered) broth. Cube the taters, add spices. Put in bowl with lid and shake. Put on baking pan and roast in oven.

When I do the livers and gizzards in a roaster, I add a bit of water and obviously, it makes its own gravy.

I still haven't heard back yet from the poster that claimed that original Baklava wasn't made with Honey. I Googled Baklava recipes and the only reference I could find was
that it can be made, or was made with syrup.

Maple syrup might be good as well but I don't think it could replace honey.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^THIS^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

If you want people to be fed up, give them something to be fed up about. If you want to inspire people to take a stand, let them know what they need to take a stand against.

If you just want to keep it all a big, dirty, shameful secret, don't tell the world you have a big, dirty, shameful secret.

I just can't argue with this, because it just makes to dam much sense. :)

She absolutely, positively didn't point that at TAR. It was just poorly worded. If she ever gets off the phone, she will post and clarify.

I'm confused on a couple of things -- How did you spend $800 a day?

I can't account for the other nights but one of those she was buying me drinks till they came out my ears. Can't believe she got off for $800 :-)

But that's her style. Its her thing. She and KK9 just want to make everyone believe that they know this big, awful secret that would leave us all with our mouths open, struggling to grasp air and trying to come to grips with how all our hopes and dreams for the future of this game were just decimated by the knowledge they COULD drop on us... if they wanted to.

But they reality is, they just like the attention of the "I know something you don't know" game. Its old. Its tiresome. Just like the idea that pool is in the state that its in because of... the economy?!?! Really???

You would be wrong. They are both passionate about pool. They just happen to be plugged into a lot of sources.

The topic of the thread is the MC monies. IMO, she was talking about them and when she said "your matches" she was trying to say "our matches" and why MC monies were withheld from particular players.

I've been to Greece many times and the baklava is always made with honey. They have so much of it you can't go to a market or even drive around an island without seeing tons of it for sale.

I think the problem we are all having is that in the quote in question she used no "@@@@@@@@"s, which I always read as "at" but I think she means as "in" (or something).

Anyway you of all people must understand the total need we here at AZ have for clarity on all issues.

Kevin

So educate me enlightened one.

What match was tainted.

Personally I think you are full of shit.

sorry for the delayed response, but i have a day job & am now caught up @ AZB. so for starters - i'm sorry my post to you was misinterpreted; NEVER directed @ TAR.

Justin, we were discussing "business" last night. and networking. and for the record, i was pumping up TAR @ Vegas to the Brits. for you. for MG. exposure.

as a consumer, (and possibly a gambler), and in this economy - ETHICS & CUSTOMER SERVICE are crucial. without them, you have no client base. no repeat/referral business.

and that's where we are personally. after this Mosconi. we won't be back if things don't change in the Industry. not dissimilar to MG, NB, GS's comments.

for you to "not give a shit" - affects me as your TAR consumer. i have always had the UTMOST RESPECT for TAR, & YOU, & MG, & my future $$$$ spent. and you are just the 6'6" man to ensure it....

moreover, what counts, are those who actually drop-dime on pool events. without customers - we are all GOB/Gone Out of Business....

i won't post BH's email; you can. but please accept my apologies for any misunderstanding, Justin @ TAR & SHANE branding (Shane is upstanding!). we'll be back @ Vegas @ JAN 25 for WMC, if you want to meet.

oh yeah, lol. And besides, Kevin, it was about time for all the usual suspects to break out the AZ pitchforks and torches and trot them around for a lap or two. Gets it out of their system and all that, so it's all good.

Gotta admit I enjoyed the post about how this mistype and misunderstanding somehow represented her MO and was her "thing". Only at AZ can an anomaly become the norm with one fell post.
