If you ever catch me wearing a pool glove...

Yeah, I saw this dork out there on a recent stream...not only wearing a glove, but shooting with an extensioned Cuetec... Gawd, what a dork! The commentator called him Shane Van something or other.
Yeah it is really holding him back!!

This whole thread is far to derogatory for the times we live in now.

It isn't nearly sarcastic enough, though. Funny to see this actually makes some angry, smoking from the ears like their wires ain't soldered right. I wouldn't care if some cat wore a full body suit and a respirator because they didn't want to touch the chalk. If they can shoot, I'll respect them.

Russians don't wear gloves.

I like the performance and consistency from the glove, but I also hate how they look, so I wear a tan glove. It's pretty much skin color, and not as noticeable as the black or bright colored gloves.

In my line of work, my hands were constantly wet......you only wore gloves when handling hazardous chemicals which I did all day long since I serviced high pressure boilers, closed loop systems and cooling towers. My hands became very calloused, my skin dry & stiff and very often cracks & small fissures would develop between my finger pads from constant immersion of my hands in chemically treated water in these commercial systems, as well as the various chemical solutions and compounds I used to test and also treat the water. It's really very hard work and you are always damp.......it's impossible to remain dry and properly test these systems which can often be located in some awful work conditions.

Even with all the skin problems I experience because of my work responsibilities, I have never used a pool glove, even though there were times my hands were in terrible shape. I tried a glove one time and the shaft feel that's so important to my closed bridge was gone. The cue slid effortlessly but the feeling of being able to tighten your bridge and feel the shaft, the sensation of how the shaft feels against your finger pad of your index finger......your get to feel the rhythm of your stroke which seemed lost to me when I wore a glove. I even tried a glove on my grip hand like with golf clubs but that was just awful.

Personally, the feel of my stroke is critical to my concentration and overall performance. I play with light cues with flat ivory joints so the feel of the stroke after striking the cue ball is very noticeable and the way the shaft glides and feels in my closed bridge hand allows me to develop a much better shooting rhythm and I just perform better.

I can't stand the way a glove feels when I'm shooting, it's like putting a nylon ski mask on your face and then rubbing it, just feels strange.

Funny part is that probably up to about 10 years ago, if you wore a glove you were a banger. Dead giveaway, just like a Cuetec was LOL Now if you see a guy/girl with a Cuetec chances are they can string more racks than you can run balls in straight pool.

It took a little getting used to, but now I like it because it's always the same. The friction between the shaft and bare skin is easily affected by numerous outside influences that can drastically alter performance. With the glove, it's pretty much always constant.

I feel the same way. It has nothing to do with how they look, I just hate gloves period. When I worked in research we had to wear gloves all the time in order to avoid contaminating samples, and to protect us from highly poisonous chemicals. I hated it, but they were mandatory.

Even when I do hard manual labor I usually avoid gloves. In fact, I was out chopping 6" of accumulated ice today and I have blisters on my right hand, even though a nice pair of new leather gloves was 50' away in my truck tool box.

If it's really cold, I will wear gloves, but only if there is a danger of frostbite. The rest of the time my hands are naked. I just like to feel what I'm holding in my hands, and that definitely includes a pool cue.

So, you guys go ahead and wear your gay looking shiny gloves, I...

JK. I actually think they look sharp, I just know I'd hate using one. Besides, I am "blessed" with dry hands.

Very funny RJ, 90% of the top 3C players in the world use VERY high end gloves, ($20&up) for playing.

For 35 years I didn't wear a glove, once I started I never looked back!

If gives the player a consistent feel and stroke, especially in VERY humid areas of the World year round!

Yes Sir, exactly why I recently returned to "The Glove". I wanted to buy a Predator Glove, but the Dealer told me they only make them for right-handed players ?

I know there are some really nice ones for 3C, but I can't seem to find a source.

I don't care to wear a glove either but it sure must be a blessing for those with sweaty hands. And it sure beats having my opponent spread talcum all over the bed cloth and rails.

ktrepal85 and HurdyGurdy...I have a question for both of you!

Is it slightly embarrassing to show the world that you are two insecure, children that may be in adult's bodies?

Seriously, you might want to get started on growing up. I can only surmise from your posts, that you are probably in the 12-14 age bracket.

My fear is that you are older than 20 and may be depended upon by others for some kind of mature decisions in your daily lives.

If 'secure' consists of wearing a glove and knicknaming myself TwinkleToes than I remain insecure.

I have not run into times where my bridge hand was so sweaty or sticky that I wanted to use a glove, but then I also avoid dirty tables and hot/humid rooms. Just keep the shaft clean with a wipe down every rack or every few shots, same thing for my hand. The feeling of the shaft connects me to the cue, same thing for my other hand, if I don't feel the linen there, it just feels off to me. I don't have the right touch or smoothness to my stroke without those.

Got a little story for ya' ...

Several years back, I bought a $1600 Cue off eBay and the Seller shipped it in a brand new PINK 1x2 hard case for security.

I decided to bring it to the Pool Hall in that PINK case just to see what kind of reaction(s) I would get from The Boys.

The instant I walked in, everyone who knew me started heckling me and pointing fingers at the Pink Case.
So, one brave soul finally asks: "What kind of Man carries his Cue in a Pink Cue Case ? ... My answer: "A Real Man".

I used to think that wearing a glove was a bit wussy...
...but then I realized that I always wear a glove playing golf.

I rarely need a glove on my bridge hand, don't sweat much....
...but I remember as a kid, gambling in Biloxi, when the moisture drifted in from the Gulf....
...a glove would have been wonderful then.

I have mocked gloves for decades then I realized trying one might help with two consistent problems. First one is when my hands get a little sticky I noticed I would loosen my closed bridge slightly to make up for it. This leads to "play" in the bridge and a loss of accuracy on firm shots. Secondly any little tiny nick or bump in my shaft where I'm stroking bothers me immensly. A glove hides this completely. I spend very little time on keeping my shaft perfect now. So after three months I now feel naked and wrong without it. I doubt I will ever go back. If someone doesn't like how it looks then they can blow me.

It makes me wonder if I had given condoms as much of a chance when I first saw them how much I might have saved in child support.

Has anyone ever seen a phillipine player wear a glove?

rodrigo geronimo (the one in the picture) does sometimes, santos sambajon, johann chua, ronnie alcano, i think roberto gomez does now too. most of them just use a shit ton of chalk though

i moved from denver to santa monica a few months ago and i will say the humidity here is really tempting me to wear a glove. i never saw myself as even considering wearing a glove for whatever reason i guess i just dont like how they look, but playing in sticky humid conditions year round you just have to keep washing your hands and cleaning your cue. a couple of my buddies have those little finger sleeves i think i could stomach that a little better
