How about "A Brief History Of The Modern Era Of Pool". This would begin in 1961, the year The Hustler came out, and when I got started in pool as a young'un. And move forward to present day. Whatcha think gang?
Me thinks the title needs more pizazz, some ooh, la la sex appeal! :)

Jay,

Can you verify that this is Efren? This is from Grissim's book, which I have. I can see Efren in the face, but a lot of people on here doubted that it is him when I posted this pic before.

Russ

Let's just say this. It could be. He would have been very young in that photo, like early 20's.

I hate to sound slow but this Louie wouldn't be the same Louie that Mike Masse had a cameo as in Poolhall Junkies? (probably isn't but I just finished watching the movie again and reading that made me wonder)

That's the name they used for Mike's character. And there was a real "St. Louie Louie".

Russ,

It does look like Efren. almost all the features, body frame, hair and face replicates Efren, with the exception of the nose. Efren's nose is kinda flat while in that picture, it seems to be pointed. can you blow up that part of the image? I already made several comparisons and the nose doesn't fit. if you have a photoshop or corel, it would be much easier to determine and make a clear image of that nose in a blown up image. I just use a simple photo editor, so that alone doesn't help a lot with a blurred image.

Thanks Jay, guess I could always come to you for questions like that, I am a young gun still, it would be awesome to organize a tournament for those of us AZ'ers, something like a good day, pool and good stories, maybe do something for the release of this book.

Oh yeah, put me down for two, gotta have one to read and one signed for sure.

Maybe 'Pool Wars - Monster Pockets and Dead Rails'

Pool Wars - The Pearl strikes back
Pool Wars - Return of the Magician

:D :D :D just kiddin !

Jay,

if it's Past and Present, probably "retrostyle and modern age" would be also fitting. the Picture Cover would be some Close Up shots of Pool Balls on the table! Would you also consider putting some Pix Exploits of players whether they were posing for Playboy, pictures doing their past times, playing famous individuals, etc... and also some excerpts, famous quotes or lines, etc... as contents ?

Tech Support

They call that "writer's liberties". Just ask Freddie. lol.
Seriously, with the stuff I've seen and been part of, there isn't much need for that. It's almost too much for one book.

Until that last line I was going to volunteer myself for tech support, but I'm not so sure now. And yes, why lie? The real stories are unbelievable enough. Call if you need help. There are many land-mines laying out there in the publishing field.

Indeed. Ask Grady how tough it is to get a book published. Many first time writers are rejected a bunch by major publishers. I think Grady finally self-published his book. I was surprised to see Heather Byers' book.

That's much better. Now if we can put that tawdry picture of Loraine shooting pool on the front cover, it would add some sizzle to the steak...and help goose book sales! :)

Heather Byers was in the movie business and knows a bunch of literary agents and book publishers. That's a big plus right there. Johnnyt

Actually, this was a pic and post that I posted a little over a year ago. I scanned and cropped it myself.....

But anyways, as Fred Agnir said...... "The neck is wrong, IMO."
But thanks for trying to take credit for it Russ.... :D

Eh.. Sorry about that.. I scanned a copy of that pic for my wife when I got the book, saw this pic on my hard drive, and assumed it was the one I scanned. And then I remembered a thread where I was talking about this book and picture, and assumed I started it since I had the book.

You know what happens when pool players start getting old..

Again, I apologize.. Didn't mean to step on your thread..

On a side note, from the story David McCumber wrote about Manila, I'm still saying this is Efren. Noone saw him in the U.S. until he was in his 30's, and in this pic he is between 18-20, if I remember the story correct.

People change a lot in 12-15 years..
