Well, As many of you know, I take photos at different tournaments of the players.
So, I get an email on Monday afternoon at 1:45 pm from an ESPN3.com email address:
Hello,
I was told to contact you per the people at the US Open 9Ball Championship, Chesapeake. I am looking for a couple of high resolution action photos from last year's tournament to accompany a brief listing of the championship.
Can you provide?
It takes me a while to get Diana Hoppe's email address and at 9pm I reply:
Hi Shawn,
I have photos of some of the players, but not from that event. If you need some photos from that event, Diana Hoppe can help you out (she took photos there last year). Her email is: xxxyyyy@blah.com
Thanks,
Melinda
He replies at 9am on Tuesday:
You probably can help me. As long as the photos represent a 9 Ball Tournament it is fine. Please send action, someone taking aim maybe or just after a shot, no bigger than 3 MB each (per email). The photos run thumbnail size so should be easily identifiable.
Then an hour later he emails me again and says:
I tried to email Diana but her spam blocker is blocking me with an ERROR message. Do you have a phone number? Are you able to send me something?
Then at 2pm today (Wednesday) I send an email:
Shawn - how many different players do you need and when do you need them by?
He replies in less than a minute:
The deadline has passed. Sorry.
OMG! I then ask him if they ran the story w/o photos or did he get photos from another source and he says:
We cannot include events that do not have a photo accompanying. I contacted you and (someone else).
I then see his signature says "Photo Editor ESPN the Magazine"
To say I am sick to my stomach is an UNDERSTATEMENT!! OMG! Billiards could have been in ESPN Magazine again and I dogged it b/c I didn't know he had a such a short deadline!
I told him to contact me in the future and I would respond ASAP next time, now that I know the deadlines are so short.

You are one of the most involved people in pool. When I grow up, I want to be just like you...well, not just like you, but... crap you know what I mean. Keep up the good work.
Dwight
Here is something I found to make you laugh...
A wife invited some people to dinner.
At the table, she turned to their six-year-old daughter and said,
'Would you like to say the blessing?'
'I wouldn't know what to say,' the girl replied.
'Just say what you hear Mommy say,' the wife answered.
The daughter bowed her head and said,
'Lord, why on earth did I invite all these people to dinner?'
Johnny "V" said:Wow with all of the photo's on the internet he couldn't pull some himself??? What about the thousands of hours of video that they have on file that they show every week. This guy dropped the ball and looks like he used you as a scapegoat.

They will at this point do nothing for us unless we are hoilding a $500k event on the roof of the playboy mansion. They hold all the cards and have us by the huevos or ovarys whatever . One dat Melinda your great pictures and those of DHoppe's will be in such de,and they will hold up the printing of a magazine and not come to us at the last min for a filler. You are awesome. I know we need ESPN but it is always on their crappy terms it seems. Again I would like for our sport to be so in demand that we could turn around and do to them what they are doing to us and make them pay out the ASS for coverage. Anyway hows things well I hope![]()
Poolplaya9 said:I highly doubt the deadlines are that short. He just waited until the last minute. Either way, it's his fault for not telling you the deadline, and for not being more specific to begin with about what he needed and what would be acceptable. It's a loss for pool, but nothing you should personally feel guilty about. You do more for pool than most people out there!

If you're so much better at it, then learn to capitalise your sentences and use proper punctuation. I didn't realise this was a grammar and usage forum.cplayermagic said:

I'm surprised that you assumed that my suggestion was to steal the images. Nowhere in my post did I state that he do that. Many times I find something that I like I contact the web master or the site owner and ask if it was ok to use it on my web sites. If they say no or want money then I either pay or don't post. I have had many things stolen over the years and have felt the financial pain that causes. So please hold my morals in higher regard...Rick S. said:I'm surprised how some people think that it's alright to pull someone's photos off the internet, and then use them w/o permission. Especially for commercial use....
HE didn't "drop the ball" at all....he knew he'd be sued if he did that.
It's not OK to 'steal' images, and the courts have backed that up an untold amount of times.
Trigger....you did all you could. He didn't make himself clear to begin with. Who knows...even if you did submit some photos on time, he still might not have ran them.
You did all you could.....there will be a next time, don't worry!! And if you need help in anyway, I'll be glad to do whatever I can.
