Found this cue today and just was curious if I could get a little more of a history lesson on it. I'm told it's likely just an import but could still make a damn good conversion. Any thoughts on this would be helpful.

I believe these were the era when the quality went downhill. Soon after, Adam began making them for Brunswick. Looks decent however.
Oh it likely would make a great conversion. Just unsure what the value could be. Its a solid cue for sure though.
Tad Kohara thought they were pretty good, better than USA Titlists. For a while, Brunswick had their Titlists made in Japan, and the differences have already been noted...very slight difference in color of veneers, slightly thicker veneers, and different scripting on the cue. Tad made his titlist conversions from these cues. Nice find! :thumbup:

Tad used both, but as you said, he way preferred the quality of the Japanese version (although maybe he was prejudiced). I can remember him laughing and showing me the evenness of the Japanese points and laughing when I tried to denigrate the outsourced Titlists. In fairness, the quality of the American version had gone way downhill just before Brunswick began outsourcing to Japan. At least in the Tad product, I way prefer the cues made from Japanese Titlist blanks to those made from the American ones.
I think Sean thinks this is an American version. I can't tell from the pics. For me, the way I tell is if the points are even and the colors pop, I figure its Japanese.
I said Tad used both, but I'm thinking that the American Titlist Tads I can think of were all conversions, rather than built from blanks, but I can be wrong and often am.

It's good to finally get some decent input on it. So I guess now that I know there is at least some people that would be interested, do we have any idea of what value could be here? I mean yeah I know something is only worth what someone is willing to pay but a rough idea couldn't hurt.
if yours hits /plays as good as the one i have you should not put it in a closet. i just got one back from ryan(ratcues) that he did a great job on. redid the thing from top to bottom. really great work on it. i am happy.

i have 6 titlist conversions at my shop on the display rack for sale. one of them is a import and it has the most even and brightest veneers. whenever some one is shopping for a cue they say it looks to perfect, so its a slow sale !!!!!

Funny thing is Ken, I'm having 2 cues converted. One is oak for sure and the other appears to be oak also but needs to be checked out.

I posted pics of the starting product on a different thread. Many people thought the 26 1/2 was wenge or brown heart. Steve Klapp turned that one down and it cleaned up a lot of the dark brown and turns out, it may be a slightly darker white oak. The Titlist looked like oak already. Hehehe
