I had never seen Mark Tadd in person before this year's DCC. I hadnt seen Shane either and frankly I was thoroughly impressed with both of these guys.

I spoke with Mark and Shane both and they both seemed like nice guys. I noticed that alot of the guys watching Mark Tadd, I think the new face does that.

Watching Buddy Hall playing Shane.....and then watching Buddy shaking his head was priceless. I couldnt help but think he did the same thing to the old guns when he was a youngster. Truely priceless....

Was Mark playing with Jay Halferts Chuck Starkey cue? I remember Jay saying in a post, that Mark wanted to borrow the cue for the derby.

Yep...

Yes, and you talk about a POS. I felt sorry for the guy. I thought about handing him a decent cue to play with. I had some nice Rick Howards that I would have let him use, but I didnt want to butt in.

I don't know, Mark said he took Jay's cue and had the shaft turned way down, You may have dodged a bullet there

Jay was in the TAR booth last night(this morning:cool: ) doing some commentary on the SVB & Alex P. match with Shawn Putnam.

They started discussing Mark, and Jay was saying how "picky" Mark was when it came to his preference in cues(the way they play/feel).

Jay said that Mark had asked him to bring a few cues for him, and Jay said that he brought 3 cues to the DCC, a Joss, Starkey and 1 more cue, but the name escapes me(hopefully Jay will fill in the blank for me)

Jay said that Mark played with all three cues and he complained about all three of them in one way or the other.

From what I understand, Shawn P and Mark have been in discussion about Shawn building a custom cue for Mark, and I think that would be a pretty good fit, because Shawn had some very good input into how Mark wanted/needed the cue produced and Shawn knew how to go about getting it done for him.

I wish nothing but the best for Mark T as he definitely will have a positive influence on the game. IMO

I would also like to give KUDOS to Jay Helfert for "helping" Mark get his form back and for taking him to the THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH. Most people would want/expect something in return, but Jay seems to be doing it for Mark, and that is KUDOS worthy. IMO
KUDOS Jay!

I actually brought three cues to Vegas during the Mosconi Cup for Mark to try out. A solid ebony Joss, the Starkey and my Rat Cue. He liked all three and said they were all better than anything he had played with before. He played with all of them for a couple of hours and chose the Starkey to use.

He brought the Starkey with him to DCC and used it in several winning matches. He also used an "undercover" Bud Cue with a premium shaft made for it, and an older four point Joss West. Mark is picky about his cues and had some work done to the Starkey (took the shaft down a bit and changed tips) and the Bud cue (new tip).

Mark and Shawn talked about having Shawn make a new cue for Mark. Shawn is a great guy and is confident he can make a cue that Mark will be happy with. I thoroughly enjoyed doing commentary with Shawn on the Alex-Shane second match.

Mark did do well in this, his first DCC effort. He tied for 10th in the Banks ($785), barely made the money in the One Pocket ($250) and also tied for 10th in the 9-Ball ($1,100). Fatboy and I sponsored Mark. It cost us about $2,000 total for everything. And we split all his winnings with him. So we took a net loss and Mark made a few dollars. I was proud of Mark and thought he did very well. He seemed to think he could do much better.

Mark was well received at DCC. He is a well known name from the past, and many people wanted to see him play. He can still play at the highest level, and hopefully he will remain motivated to continue.

too light

Mark and I and His girlfriend talked at length. He first used billiards chalk on the cue tip, second he replaced the tip played brook it in, replaced the tip again, second new tip. Same butterfly splice or something - same problem too light. mark

This was my first time getting to see Mark in person. And I was really impressed. But not impressed near as much with his quality of play as his practice routine. As soon as matches were over he was on the table practicing. I was there from tues to sat and everyday was like this. He could always be found practicing on one of the available tourney tables. It was one of the most inspiring things I have ever seen.

The action report had him in the booth for awhile and it was a good interview. He did mention his problems with finding the right cue for him. If I remember correctly he also said he never did drills, just ran balls and doesn't have an "aiming system".

They also interviewed George Fels and that was good as well.

Did he quit...

GAMBLING? Surely he must have because I arrived in Louisville on thursday and the action room was filling up while he was hitting balls on one of the tables. I saw a dozen guys walk up and ask him to gamble and he turned them all down. A few guys asked me who he was and i replied..."i'm not sure"...in order to not knock his action:D So does he not gamble at all anymore? Or just not ready yet?

Those guys are very fortunate that Mark has chosen not to gamble anymore at Pool. If he had, they would get bar-b-cue'd!

Tadd is Back

It was great to see Mark Tadd playing again and he is definitely getting back to where he was years ago. I did like seeing him gamble in the 90's and think the only time I saw him get beat (around the time he won the LA Open) was against Antonio Lining (a very good player). Jay do you remember some of his big wins and of course some losses?

I was very impessed with his playing and personality.
Felt really bad about giving him a hard time on the NPF
several months ago.:o :o :o

I may have too hondo.
I had invited him to 'church' with some audio links towards the end of one of those threads, and I never heard from him again. Next thing I heard, he was in a tournament in Reno or Vegas or somewhere, and I believe he took 2nd in it.

I just happen to be upstairs while Mark was hitting some balls. This is the first time i had ever saw him also and i did not know who he was. Anyway i saw him throw all 15 ball out and run them in rotation 6 times with out missing a ball. Maybe that doesn't sound like much but i had only see it done one time before and it was at Que Masters a few years ago and it was Alex that done it then. Then i saw him break and run 6 racks of 9 ball while warming up with one of his friends in the main room while waiting on the draw. I am very impressed with his play and i think all players should fear him. (IMHO), Doug

No doubt about it. He is one bad dude. It would be great to see him at he top of the tourney trail...I'd love to see him take a BIG win.

Kudos to Jay and Fatboy for getting him in the mix!

He's really a lot different than he came across on here.
