IndyQ, the worst customer service response ever...

Follow Up,,,,,,,,,,,,

John,,,,

I just got a text from ''Mildred'',, she wants to order a case,,now that's the Good News,,,,

The bad news , is that she said she'll send over ''Ah-Nuld's'' illegitimate son to oversee the project,,,,,,,,

Hell,,,,he's fatter than Kristie Alley after leaving an ''All You Can Eat Buffet'' !!

Your buddy,,,,,,,,,,,,,Alan,,,,,,,,,,,,,!!

C'mon guys,,,,,''Bring The Funny''',,,,!!

I think we responded in one of Gerry's threads a couple weeks ago when he posted looking for a case before he contacted Roy.

We aren't hard to find. :-)

Also I am NOT defending bad customer service.

I guess that "defending bad customer service" might not have been the appropriate words that i should have used and i apologize JB.

I'm glad that you and PC have had contact and hope that you can make a deal and just bypass the bad mannered middle man :)

John, it just strikes me as 'blame the victim'. For every line you spend saying 'sure, cussing him out was wrong' you're writing another line about how the potential buyer was out of line for asking for a discount, and what roy did was understandable.

To me, they don't deserve equal airtime.

In fact, there's no "seller's perspective" for treating people like crap. Nobody needs specific experience dealing cues and cases to understand you don't rant at a customer. That's just customer service 101. Actually that's just human interaction 101.

I've had two interactions with Roy and they were both great. Once, several years ago I called him just to talk about Southwest cues, etc. He gave me a lot of information and was very helpful and polite. The second time was about 4 years later, when I bought a case from him. I didn't ask for any discount as I thought his price was fair and "he" was very gracious in regard to my order and told me I would get a discount for my next order. I just wanted to add a post in regard to a truly positive experience with Roy.

True story,
I couldn't help myself I sent him a trolling email asking for some discounts on some Cogs so I could resell them from my trunk at the local pool room (that is almost verbaitem how I put it) he got back to me about 2 hours later was very polite and offered me a discount  I have no dog in this fight I hate crappy customer service but he was very polite in his email and I will be ordering a cue from him and paying his retail price. I bash those that deserve to be bashed but he treated me fine so I will buy something high end from him maybe see if he can get a nice bluegrass for me

The thing is that the prices are negotiable. But Roy is very old school in how one goes about it.

Imagine you are in the old west and you go into the tack shop looking at the new saddles. You don't introduce yourself to the owner and once you pick out a saddle you march right up and ask him for his best discount. Now that saddle maker could take offense that you didn't even say hello before trying to get a discount and tell you to get out or he could be nice about it.

What if you spent a little time getting to know him, learn a little about his history, develop a relationship and then see if he doesn't offer you a discount on his own. Now you got your discount and more importantly you have a friend in the business.

Even without knowing the seller, I see nothing wrong with entering negotiation. You may not have a leg to stand on but that doesn't give ANYBODY the right to treat another person as this Roy character has. Old school or not he is being a total douche.

I'm not defending Roy. He does all this stuff to himself but I don't really see any "victims" here. That word sounds like he screws people over. Have not heard of that happening except for once or twice and there are always two sides to a story. I have heard horror stories about lots of people in the cue world on different deals. Sometimes the stories are true and sometimes when all the info is revealed its not what it first seemed. Roy has done some deals I personally don't agree with but I havent known him to out and out heist anyone.

My point to this ramble is call the guy a dick if you want but its not like he's out there robbing people. Honestly I can understand where his attitude comes from. Anyone who sells anything knows how annoying it is to deal with serial tire kickers, up starts undercutting prices, that guy who just wants a little more of a good deal or the dude who wants to send a hundred emails on something he never had the money for in the first place. Roy just goes full retard and says what a lot of people want to say. I will admit its a lot more fun to watch it from afar than be the target.

Obviously most people deal with all that in a little more diplomatic matter than Roy seems to. It does kind of crack me up to hear nothing has changed though. If he was out there screwing people it would be one thing but just being an asshole is a right protected by the Constitution.

True story.

Edit to add: My favorite thing ever is to see peoples reactions when they find out what he charges for South Wests. Its either complete disbelief or insta-tilt resulting in a magnificent stream of cuss words. I've seen it in person and had a real hard time keeping a straight face. People just flip their wig. Its awesome.

<---went full retard once or twice

As they say in the movie Tropic Thunder, "Never go full retard."

What are you?

I have not read all of the thread but,

There are more "dick" customers
than there are "dick" dealers.

News flash: being a customer does
not allow you to be a dick.

Dick dealers go out of business,
dick customers just keep on thinkin'
they are always right.

I fully agree with Barton on the attack being random. Based on what is stated in this thread it sounds like a robbery. If the sole intent was a beating the perp would not have entered with a firearm. As much as some folks want it to be retribution for Roys douchebagness I dont think it was. Was he actually robbed or just beaten?

John,,,,

Text her back and tell her she's got the 7.
If there is a poolplayer out there named "Mildred", I have a case that she can also use as a walker..

I purchased one cue about Roy. It was before I was aware of his "reputation". After a couple of fairly lengthy discussions, I went to his house to pick it up.

According to Roy, it was a robbery and it occurred at the store he used to have. Whether this is fact, or not, remains to be seen. I also believe Roy has other physical ailments, one of which I seem to recall was a stroke.

I didn't ask for a discount, I paid $450 for a Gilbert Purple Heart j/b cue. I checked the net briefly and found that to be a consistent price. Overall, he was courteous to me. Unknowingly, I mentioned a good friend of mine to see if Roy knew him (and I said "do you happen to know so and so who is a good friend of mine) and then got a diatribe from Roy of how he didn't like him. And that went on and on and on up to the time I left. This kind of clued me in as, if one of my Customers brought up the name of someone they identified as a friend, even if this individual was #1 on my hate list, I can't see saying anything negative about them.

Bottom line, Roy was okay to me and aside from the comments about my friend, didn't exhibit any of the other things I've read about him here. But I also didn't ask for a discount. I probably wouldn't buy anything else from him with what I've heard here and from other people personally. I don't believe Roy is an evil, cheating, douchebag. I think he is a lonely old feller that is probably suffering somewhat from physical pain and may be somewhat bitter (or a lot bitter) about his circumstances with the beating and physical ailments.

I'll say this. I'd purchase a cue from Roy before I would deal with that huysmall guy that screwed snowmon over recently. But the thing is, there are no shortage of great cue makers out there and Customer Oriented and friendly dealers that I can't see why I'd have to choose Roy to do a transaction with.

Standard handgun robbery motivated by monetary gain usually doesn't include a beating. When the hand to hand starts the gun becomes less of an advantage. Point the gun, get the cash/goods and off you go. The handgun is to assure compliance and unchallenged escape. To me this sounds very odd to be random robbery. That's all I was saying.

You are entitled to your opinion. I didn't say that the buyer was out of line for asking for a discount. I said that we only know HALF the story.

In fact there IS a seller's perspective. You know those signs which say we reserve the right to refuse service? Well they aren't there just for show, people who own their own businesses have the right to refuse to serve you. Furthermore they can even berate you if they choose to, deserved or not. You then have the right to shop elsewhere and tell everyone who will listen about how badly you were treated.

I have dealt with people who I have felt were out of line in how they approached me on both sides, as a seller and as a buyer. I have told people off in rude ways, not proud of that, told them off in nice ways, and often capitulated when I would have preferred to tell them to go away. Comes with the territory. There is nothing that says I must sell to you or be polite about it.

Not everybody subscribes to Dale Carnegie's method of getting along in business. And history shows that plenty of disagreeable people manage to succeed anyway.

Most famously Steve Jobs for example. I would be willing to bet that he has been hundreds of times ruder to people than Roy has ever been. We could go down the list from there and find hundreds of wildly successful people who don't have the nicest social skills. So what? It simply shows that not everyone has to adhere to the same rules.

In fact I find it really funny that some people here are berating Roy about not being nice and at the same time calling him names. That is sort of contradictory in my opinion. We don't live in a kumbaya world as JC reminded us. Sometimes people will be mean to each other.

As they said in the 70s take a chill pill.

Actually, in many states those signs are illegal. They are in violation of the Civil Rights Code

I don't wish someone to get beaten to a pulp for having bad customer service.

However the one time I ordered something from IndyQ, I got more than what I wanted. I wanted a 3/6 JB Case and while Roy was checking his stock, he didn't notice it was a 4/8. The next day he told me it was a 4/8 and said he would sell it to me for the same price. Worked well for both of us. This was before I heard some of the negative things on here...

Oh well.

Roy has difficulties playing nice with others and I hope he gets the help and obtains the happiness he deserves.
