Infants at a tournament?

Your original post came off whiny, so my apologies, I stand corrected. In that case, Kristi Carter should've worked with the Tournament Director, maybe watch from another room. Last thing you want is Allison Fisher not able to concentrate because the person she entrusted with her baby isn't doing her job.

At what point did I say that I don't like Allison? I don't know her but my friends that do know her say that she is a very nice, pleasant lady. As for not watching her, that would not have done any good. Regardless of what stream I was watching, the kid could be heard. Also, at what point did I complain about the free stream?

She didn't have the baby next to her at the tournament table, the baby was with Kristi Carter in the audience. The baby was not crying but it was squealing and making the sounds that babies make (quite loudly at times). It was every bit as disruptive as if the child had been crying.

For the person comparing a pool tournament to other sports that are played outside and where loud cheering crowds is common, all I have to say is "Really?". Apples and oranges.

i still don't understand the reason to have music in background during a pool match. Especially in this ultimate 10 ball championship i heard a pretty loud music in background. What's the reason for that? I bet players would like to have no music. Actually I noticed music in background only in pool matches, i never heard it during snooker, carom or russian pyramid matches.

Well, having background music is good because it helps drown out small noises like people quietly talking, a sneeze, crumpling of a potato chip bag, etc...also, if there is no music the above noises will be very distracting as it will break the dead silence in the room. And in most local pool rooms with money matches and local tournaments in progress, there is lots of noises going on. I remember going to watch matches at DCC in Kentucky, people were talking and making all kinds of noises durning big money matches, though not intentional to destract the players, just socializing noises...

as far as babies and children in attendance goes, i think players need to get used to it, and deal with it. you don't hear baseball, football, basketball etc players whining about crowd noise. if you want pool to become mainstream, don't ***** about the crowd.

I'm guessing you're one of those guys who's cell phone goes off in the tournament room.

Just so everyone is clear on this. in my first post in this thread I said "I have a feeling its Allison's baby" I was not there and do not know if I am right or not. So before anyone starts in on Allison for the baby it may not have been hers. Just saying so that people don't think what I said is eye witness, Thanks.

I do too and that is what annoys me the most. I can almost understand a fan who has never been to a pro event, but the players??? No excuse.

I understand neither. A fan bringing a baby into a tournament like this knows full well what that baby is capable of. If they are bringing a baby into the tournament room they are simply telling everyone they don't have enough respect for the players or the sport to care if their baby causes a disturbance.

IMO there should be minimum age restrictions for children in tournament rooms. Young enough that aspiring young players can watch the pros, but we don't need babies or 2 year old kids in these places, they don't want to be there and they are disrupting the players and the fans (I heard the baby squalling in the background, it was not only annoying but also damaged the atmosphere of the match).

Players with kids should get babysitters or let their spouses take care of the kids, fans with kids can do the same or not come watch the matches. If I were a Tournament Director I would make a very clear rule, kids under 6 years old are not permitted in the tournament room, kids under 16 must be accompanied by an adult, disruptions by anyone in the room including kids will result in those people being required to leave.

Couldnt agree more with this^^^^^^

Never have understood this..

Everytime I see a baby in a pool room, I cringe.. IMO, and I know my opinions are a little strong, but if you have a baby, then maybe you should just forego the pool room experience for a while.. Nice restaurants, too..

Now, if you make your living playing pool, that's obviously different, but you should still find proper care for the child while you're working.. As someone mentioned earlier, the rest of the world uses daycare, pool players should too..

i don't think i've ever seen a baby refered to as an "it" so many times before.

ok...you mean like pro golf? Cause that's not mainstream...

pool players more closely resemble the thugs from the sports i named than the refined upper class participants of golf and tennis.

Did you watch this recent Ultimate 10 Ball Tournament? Your doing a lot of writing before thinking here. You argue that people should disrespect the pool tournament by allowing disruptive noise and distraction, and that this would bring it more in line with mainstream sports. When an obvious counter example is offered you then change to berating pool players for not being more like the players of the obvious counterexample? SO which is it? Should we treat pool players with the same respect as golfers and tennis players, or not?

Some people are just inconsiderate and could care less about other people.

I put them in the same class as the A Holes in the Priuses doing 60 in the fast lane on the freeway.

:)

Couldn't agree more with this assessment! Oh, and you forgot to add that they will then flip you off if you pass them on the right...

Im bored to tears already...

If you have a baby find arrangements for the care of it end of period!!!
Especially the pros that make a living playing pool!! They are not exempt here!!!

Do you bring your infant or 3 year old to your office job... Restaurant job or construction site?? Hell no you dont!!!! I cant believe this thread is as long as it is..

Dont bring your little ones out to anywhere that demands silence unless they are well behaved..

My two little girls (8 + 9) have been to big tourney and pro events and they sit there and be quite. Not because they have to be there but because they want to be there to watch the players and me play. I taught them early that this is how it is and if i have to raise my voice in the slightest while they are there they will get it..

Get it as in dont make me do it!!! Scare tactics work wonders

A baby or young child does not belong in a pool tournament.

I also cringe every year when I see babies or young kids in Vega$. If you want to take you kid on vacation, take them to Disney World (the one for kids)

No doubt, Vegas is the epitome of an adult playground. It sells 3 things, gambling, alchohol, and sex. Forget Circus Circus, the waterpark that was on the strip is gone. Vegas is NOT a place for kids, it never was, and it never will be. Every pool in Vegas is adult in theme, few have water slides of any sort, they are more inclined to have suntanning, massages, and topless sections.

Vegas is not a place for kids. Hotel sites that rate the hotels as to whether they are kid friendly need to get a clue. Is the hotel in Vegas? Then it is not kid friendly. Circus Circus is not kid friendly, people are gambling all over the place, drinking free drinks, and prositutes are walking about looking for guys with a big stack of chips in front of them. It does not matter which hotel in Vegas it is, don't bring your kids to Vegas.

I gotta laugh at this line! "what the baby is capable of". This baby is causing an uproar here! He's a bad baby! Bad baby!

by your logic, earl shouldn't be allowed in pool tourneys as well.....never know what kind of outburst is gonna happen and disrupt other players.
