Anyone know if they have weakened Red Bull in some way? I use to run around like I was on speed, now not so much. Johnnyt

I bought a 5 hr energy drink at the Dollar Store. I had never tried one before.

I was a little drowsy one AM even though i got a full nights sleep so i drank it. My past experience told me not to take any kinda picker upper when i was truly beat-just made me feel worse with the heart pounding and all

Within an hour i was more drowsy than ever and went back to bed. Im gonna buy a couple more and try it for sleep.

Thanks all. I've had less than a dozen of them, but I do drink about 4 cups of coffee a day that i'm not supose to have. I think i'll pass on anymore red bull. Johnnyt

I don't touch caffeine. It's hard on your heart, and you build up a tolerance, thus creating a vicious cycle. I've never had a cup of coffee in my life, and I'm never groggy during the morning or day.

Johnny,

People build a tolerance to caffeine - that's scientifically proven. So, drinking coffee all day and then having a Red Bull, it's not going to have the big effect.

I can't play with too much of that stuff in me. I'm avoiding excess caffeine if I can help it - hurts my game if I get too pumped up on it. My grip gets shaky, my head feels too light, I get jittery.

I am a sales rep for RB and am not aware of any recipe change. Check the date code to see if the can is fresh.

That is a gift. I would pay to be like that! Most of my problems are probably sleep related. I stay away from energy drinks, but will have the occasional cup of coffee.

We're 13 posts in and no one has complained that this should be in the NPR forum. That just shows how well-liked you are around here Johnny :)

Well I was going to use it to go after high runs (4 me) in 14.1 ;). Johnnyt

Hahahaha and so it all ties in. Gotta love it.

In all seriousness though, my best advice to you is to kick the energy drinks. Taurine is bad stuff for your heart. My wife is a nurse and her mom is a surgical technician, so I tend to believe what they tell me about this kinda stuff.

I'm a retired nurse and my wife is still a nurse. I cut out the cigarettes, weed, and booze at around 65 yo, but I figured a little pep up drink once in awhile would't hurt until I just read some counties have banned it. That's why I think it has been toned down a bit in the US before the FDA steps in. Johnnyt

Caffeine is too. A few years ago, my wife was taking some stuff daily advertised to speed up a woman's metabolism. After about a week, one day her heart started racing uncontrollably and she had to be hospitalized for 2 days with an irregular heartbeat.

The emergency med docs asked me to check out the supplement. I called the company and found out it had 350 mg of caffeine, like drinking 4 cups of strong coffee or 4 small cans of Red Bull. Since she doesn't drink coffee or otherwise take caffeine, they figured it was too much for her and blamed the supplement for triggering the episode.

Problem is some people have this pre-disposition to an irregular or rapid heartbeat and caffeine can trigger it.

I remember you used to be a Diet Coke drinking machine

I get the same problem with caffeine, makes me way too jittery. Eating an apple before playing can give you more energy than caffeine, and without the jitters.
