Injustice at the Guinness Tour's Philippine Qualifier

PBDF's Jun Diokno makes an A&& of himself!

After GAB Chairman Eric Buhain and BSCP President Ernie Fajardo agrees to hold a Qualifier for the 2nd Leg of the Guinness 9-Ball Tour, PBDF Spokesperson Jun Diokno throws a fit at the Star Paper Billiards Complex after BMPAP Players outplays the BSCP/PBDF players.

The Qualifiers were supposed to be an open tournament for Filipino professional players but the BSCP tournament committee headed by Sol Gueco declares that its just going to be for their invited players after 30+ players went through the trouble of going to the "out-in-the-wilderness" compound where the Star Billiard Complex is located (see Hey Joe's blog for his description of the location).

So the poor players, mostly top ranked Filipino players like Roberto Gomez (one of Guinness' choice players), Gandy Valle (Asian Games Gold Medalist and PNPC runner-up), Jharome Pena, Carlo Biado, etc. had no choice but to leave the premises without getting a chance to represent the country through a qualifying tournament.

The tournament proceeded but not through the normal format of single or double-elimination but through round robin groups of 4s. They, the BSCP tournament committee said that they cannot accomodate the players so they'll just open the tournament for the next leg! HUH?! There were 20 tables there with no one playing and just 30+ players and they can't finish this in a day?

After the round-robin was completed, they decided to proceed with the single elimination format for the last 8 top finishers where the BMPAP players topped the round robin stage. This is when Jun Diokno stepped-in and announced that there will only be ONE slot up for grabs as BSCP has decided to reserve the other slot for their player. He also stated that the winner will also have to sign a contract to be a PBDF player in order to qualify as representative to the Guinness Tour. He yelled in front of everybody in attendance that this is their tournament and they're just doing GAB Chairman Eric Buhain a favor by agreeing to hold a qualifier to fill the 2 slots. Ronnie Alcano asked him why change in the middle of the tournament when they, the BSCP tournament committee, has already announced the Qualifying Tournament for the 2 slots! He, Jun Diokno, yelled back at WPC Champion Ronnie Alcano saying that if the players don't agree with what they want then they can just head for the door.

Head for the door they did! Up his oIo !!! The chicken Jun Diokno, immediately bolted out the door too, as soon as Ronnie and company walked out the complex, and scampered away! hahahaha! Too bad your plan didn't work a-holes!

I don't like the news from Philippines the last months...

Hope this problem will be solved soon.

Glad the Bugsy guys did the right thing and leave

Not just the Bugsy guys Ronnie Alcano and Dennis Orcullo but also Negros' Lee Van Corteza, Guinness' previous year's runner-up, and Warren Kiamco!

Just for the injustice that the players were subjected to we the BMPAP have raised the top prize at our upcoming San Miguel Beer's 1st Quezon City Championship to US$15,000 from US$10,000!

Politics and pool, or any sport for that matter, don't mix and it's usually only the players and the fans that get hurt.

Here's the newspaper release about the agreed upon Qualifier. http://services.inquirer.net/express/08/03/11/html_output/xmlhtml/20080311-123978-xml.html

Didn't our players' attendance to the Qualifier show that we at BMPAP are willing to abide by the law, cooperate and set aside differences for the sake of the sport, players and fans. We even acted civilly, when they kicked out of the complex everybody (audience, non-included players and managers) allied to the BMPAP, as respect to the order of Sebastian Chua who owns the Star Billiard Complex. Mr. Chua's action is a good example why country representation qualifiers need to be held in neutral grounds. Thank you for showing us who you really are and what really is important to you Mr. Chua. It really is all about the money, or rather, trying to recoup what you spent supporting BSCP/PBDF/RAYA.

This is absolutely unbelievable.

How can they run business like this way ? Just incredible.

I've heard a few things already this year to do with billiard organisations that have just left me speechless. Do these people even consider how these actions make them look to the rest of the world ?

Its no wonder "non-industry" are so reluctant to be associated with our sport.

who won last night btw? lol they should tell foreigners those words too... imagine them telling those taiwanese to leave on their world 10 ball hahahaha

LOL! I can't answer that question since I really don't care to know who wins a sham qualifier.

....then imagine gallows being built in the town plaza should they be inconsistent! hahahaha!

They, BSCP/PBDF, are not the kind of people who are suppose to be trusted to wield some power to lead. It is really obvious now that their interest is more self-serving than service to the country.

A Director in the BSCP is a political propagandist and the chairman is a political writer that's why they write the way they do. Re-read Makabenta articles in the home page of AZBilliards 'coz now you'll really understand the intention of such articles. With their recent Press Conference announcing World 10-Ball, you will understand now why he tries to assasinate 9-Ball (or positioning the openings of his trouser pockets).

Why the h$ll the politics got involved on this kind of tournament again....why can they just mind their own business....i hate to say that those top players will be staying in N.A and won't represent our country is just like Parica stays in the US

i said it before and i'll say it again,,,never in the history of Phil. pool was there ever any problem like this until BSCP/YEN MAKABENTA and his goons started their run for dictatorship...

...legends and pillars of Phil. pool can see it and so they bonded under the guidance of the peolple who have sacrificed their time and wallet to buck this "little marcos(dictator)...

...anyone can see this....i have no axed to grind here - only love of pool

GAB has to flex it's muscle...

Pretty sad.
And the people who have been helping these players are also victims of mudslinging.
But, you can only keep your dirt for so long.

Just learned, after a phone interview with a newspaper journalist, that Gabica won that Guinness Phil Qualifier after the walk-out and they, BSCP, are nominating Dennis for the other slot! Huh?! Are they now creating a problem within their player ranks? Jeff de Luna, last leg's quarterfinalist will be up in arms! So will Ernie Fajardo who usually insists on Manalo getting a slot!

If they're willing to give that slot to Dennis, why not? We'll have a party with his winnings! ....... NOT! They're strategy is so easy to read specially with allthe info leaks within their organization! The above isn't going to be released in the paper 'til tomorrow and I only got to know about it when the a newspaper reporter tried to get my side of what happened in the Qualifier. Am surpised  with their strategy but they're really between a rock and a hard place after Diokno's declaration and outburst (grandstanding). Self-destructive moves!

I knew from the very beginning, eversince the Pagulayan incident, they were full of crap. my intuition was correct all along. how can you give chance to a sporting body who cant even live and abide by their own rules that they themselves created? so it's not really a matter of fairness and equal opportunity. it's the one who would give them a substantial amount of piece of the pie. politicians, they are so good with words of promises.

GAB should flex their muscles and put a stop to all these power hungry, limelight grabbing, pocket filling crooks in suits. It's about time they earn their paycheck for once. Calling Chairman Eric Buhain!

They, the BSCP, knew that Diokno messed-up so here's the peace offering. And of course the resulting journa-sweet-talk from the propagandists:rolleyes: to soften the blow. They had no choice but to try to lessen the repercussion caused by their action specially since our attendance to the Qualifier showed that we are serious about our call for fair qualifying tournaments, that we did not call for a boycott of above-board events and will follow rules and requests from the proper government agency, GAB.

Although their, BSCP, decision of nominating Orcullo for their sequestered slot is against what we believe in, we will listen to the GAB Chairman's request. We are aware that this nomination goes against BSCP's promise, of automatic seeding, to their pirated players specially de Luna, who was a quarterfinalist in the previous Guinness leg, and we do pity him. BSCP should know too that the players are even moreso furious and aware of how the BSCP is manipulating and resorting to desperate measures to keep a hold on their false authority.

Our layman understanding. Let them keep losing their money TRYING to make their wrong right. Succeeding to do so????

Our players already knew of this BSCP move by lunchtime yesterday (see post #13). If you were in our shoes, what'll you do? Your opinion is important to us.

on the other hand.... er you better be working on getting in touch with AP while he's there :D ....pare...if Efffie would help AP get the media mileage- i'm sure he can- it will really be big....sorry - just carzy with AP....:o

it's better that you release a public statement of what had transpired during that elimination event and what was originally agreed upon prior to that. to ask explanation why the sudden change of the agreement in the middle of the tourney without consulting the other party, thereby enforcing self-rule to the tourney. to expose Diokno and company for their arrogant behaviour. if you have some video or audio recording, it would be better that you use it as evidence before the GAB committee as to how the agreement was not being implemented.

furthermore, inorder to solve this matter without prejudice, such tourneys should be held on neutral grounds and supervised by a neutral party. not the BSCP nor the BMPAP. as long as the BSCP is incharge of such tourneys, always expect that there would be certain manipulations and move done by certain officials. I wouldn't mind if certain officials get fired, if necessary and to stop this freak show. just expect that there would be a release of quite civil and mild-mannered statements coming from certain officials inorder to save their asses from getting fired. it's time to pull some strings and remove the plug from these people.

Its the same thing that has gone on with many tours in the States, its going to happen everywhere with people, the sport is cursed.
